Avatar m tn What I wanted to know is if this is normal for this type of injury and whether there are any exercises or rehab I can do to get my foot stronger quicker, so I can get back to playing faster? All opinons appreciated!
1823499 tn?1370090289 I just need to give pt a chance. I will try anything if it helps me to be able to go back to work. I just feel some of the issues i have wont be resolved fron pt. But i am going to continue it and see. My pt says he knows what chiari is but i dont believe they have actually worked with someone who has it! I just dont want to work with a pt who has me doin anything that may hurt me more. Is that possible?!
Avatar n tn Core strengthening/stabilization exercises, McKenzie exercises (He has several books out or look online), and pilates exercises are other options. I used to do transcription for a physiatrist (physician who specializes in physical medicine, rehab, & pain) and he recommended those to most of his patients.
1253246 tn?1332073310 As I posted earlier, post rotator cuff surgery some pain is expected, and usually the rehab program of exercise helps overcome that. For first six weeks passive exercises are done, followed by slow initiation of active exercises. Full activity without pain is possible only after 4-6 months. The degree of pain may vary from person to person, and on compliance with the rehab program.
Avatar n tn I have had 24 session of rehab which included, stretching, ultrasound, ice/electo stim and exercises. My knees still hurt the same as they did before. I have had an MRI dont and it didnt show the tendonitis. My doctor said he has no idea what to do next and to just give it time.I have one session of rehab left and am at my wits end. I cannot do stairs, squat, run, kneel or anything. What do I do??? I am SO frustrated!!
Avatar f tn Maybe yes, maybe no. The epidural shots never cure anything. You need to go to a physical rehab program before anything else. You have to go in person. You can't learn the exercises on youtube.
Avatar f tn After this diagnois is confirmed you need to go to a physical rehab specialist who will, for starters, teach you some exercises that will relieve the pressure. A electrical tens device will sometimes relieve the pain, as well as a transdermal 5% Lidocaine patch, to be used for no more than 12 hours at a time. Eventually you may require a procedure known as a laminectomy. Keep well hydrated, avoid riding in a bouncy vehicle, resolve to always lift properly, and hopefully it will get better.
Avatar n tn What joint was involved? Knee, shoulder, ankle...? Much depends on the severity of the injury, the patient's own immune system, and the patient's dedication to rehab. One thing for certain, that joint will never be the same as it was before the injury. He will certainly have good use of it, but it's going to be painful for a good long while. The physical therapy is the most important part of rehab. Unfortunately, it HURTS.
Avatar f tn Once diagnosed (orthopedician) of your problem I agree, physiotherapist will be helpful. Stretching exercises and range of motion exercises should be learnt from an expert (physiotherapist) so you do not damage anything further. Take care!
Avatar f tn Once you are able to walk short distances unassisted, it is important to regain the strength in your leg muscles with resistance exercises. You can do the early rehab exercises with light ankle weights or resistance bands, and you can ride a stationary bike at varying degrees of resistance to strengthen your muscles and work on your range of motion at the same time. Consider taking yoga or tai chi classes.
Avatar m tn You need to have an MRI of the lumbar region and get an appointment to receive instructions from a physical rehab specialist on exercises. While not complicated, you have to have them demonstrated to you in person. Sometimes they help. Sometimes they don't.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately the discs usually never heal completely. You have a nerve that is being pinched intermittantly. I'm not telling you anything you probably haven't figured out. You need to find a referral to a good physical rehab specialist and begin a series of rehabilitative exercises. You can't learn these exercises on the internet. Count on a dozen sessions. Whatever they charge will be worth it. Ask your physician about prescribing a TENS device to control the pain.
Avatar f tn I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant and have to lift and manage all types of patients in rehab. He prescribed me Predisone, but I don't know if I need to have any precautions as far as lift precautions or what. I also don't know whether to go get injections or go to therapy. My co-worker is a PTA and gave me some exercises, but I can bearly move today. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Did anyone else have to do physical therapy or are planning on starting? They have me a list of exercises to do at home and they work wonders.
764912 tn?1322711843 Hey PastorDan, PT for balance training and PT for vestibular rehab are 2 different things. Vestibular rehab is only effective if you have BPPV - otherwise it does not address other reasons for vertigo. You can always make your balance better no matter what your starting point if you are with a PT that continually challenges your comfort zone. Balance PT can be frustrating because you have to do exercises that are a little too hard - so you SHOULD be losing your balance, swaying etc.
Avatar n tn Running doesn't really exercise your core, so the knee isn't a problem there. What I'd recommend is seeing a physical therapist who can show you tons of core building exercises, as well as exercises to strengthen your knee and the muscles around it. Or you can go to a gym and get a personal trainer to show you. Or go on You Tube.
82861 tn?1333453911 Are there any plans in the works for a physical therapy forum? As a veteran of numerous orthopedic surgeries and rehab, I would love to see some kind of expert or even patient-to-patient forum on rehab issues. Surgery is only one step in recovering from an orthopedic injury. The rest of the "cure" is up to the patient's willingness to endure the pain of rehab which is often overlooked by the surgeons themselves.
Avatar m tn About 4 weeks ago, I came down with severe cold/cough with voice loss that lasted about a week. I was first prescribed Omnicef, then it was changed to Amoxycillin, and then Zpak during the course of 7 days since the symptoms were not getting better. A couple of days before this started, I also suffered back-ache due to heavy lifting, which lasted about a week. Since the antibiotics had minimal effect, I think I had some type of viral infection.
667016 tn?1238891904 Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this community & hurt my back Oct '06. I lifted a heavy bucket out of the sink & experienced excruciating pain in my lower back R hand side. Later that night I temporarily lost feeling in both legs, they were like dead weights - I had to crawl to bed. Next morning I was still in agonising pain & my spine was severly bent sideways - to the point where I looked deformed & felt like I was going to topple over.
333672 tn?1273792789 I had an evaluation for physical therapy on Monday and my first session today. I am having increasing trouble with walking and, although I don't know if this is going to help, I think it's worth a shot. So far I have found out a number of interesting things. My flexibility is okay for my age (although it seems worse to me than it used to be), but I have weakness in my hip flexors and in my ankle muscles.
Avatar n tn I have been addicted to pain killers for 6+ years. I've decided that enough is enough & I can't continue to live like this anymore. I am 3 days clean & currently going through withdrawls. I can not afford rehab, or have anyone to care for my children if I could afford to go. I don't know if wanting to quit & change my life is enough for me to kick this. My husband knows about my addiction, I went to him for help. He doesn't understand why I can't just stop.
