An occasional one or two drink may be fine but moderate or large amount can cause significant increases in blood levels of phenytoin due to induction of hepatic enzymes. Whereas if you are a chronic alcoholic, the phenytoin levels may be lower than expected and can cause seizures. I suggest you consult with your neurologist in this regard. The severity of these adverse reactions increases as serum concentrations of phenytoin increase. While lethargy, dizziness, and drowsiness may occur at therapeutic serum concentrations, ataxia, coma, and drug-induced seizures usually occur at supra-therapeutic concentrations.
Ferritin (iron storage) is considered the gold standard for diagnosing iron deficiency however they did not include this test on your labs. Your iron serum is borderline low. Elevated RDW (Random Distribution of red cell Width) can be due to vitamin B12 anaemia, folate anaemia or a concurrent iron anaemia with another type of anaemia.
Folate is trapped in an unusable form without vitamin B12 which is why low or deficient folate is a common finding with vitamin B12 deficiency.
I recently got a copy of my full blood count results which shows the following abnormalities:
Red blood count (RBC) - HI - 5.09
Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) - LO - 81
Mean corpusc. haemoglobin (MCH) - LO - 25.7
Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) - HI - 14.
RDW is red cell width distribution and is a test which checks the size of red cells. A high variation in the red cell size is reported as a high RDW.
High RDW can be an indication of liver disease, hemolytic anemia, iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, thalassemia, etc.
The RDW values are correlated with the mean corpuscular volume to obtain an idea of which factor is causing the RDW to rise.
Folic acid supplementation in folate-deficient patients with epilepsy changes the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, usually leading to lower serum phenytoin concentrations and possible seizure breakthrough..."
It however says that initiation of Folic acid and phenytoin together is beneficial.

A few weeks ago I woke up with yellow crust on the corner of my lips and it went away in 2 days, and today I woke up and it's in the exact same spot again except a little more then before. Thank you for your question, you are relatively fine with Phenytoin and the seizure episodes in a form of lack of speech are the residue of a generalized type seizure. I don’t have a full description of your consciousness during the lack of speech episodes to decide whether this start is a partial epilepsy which can continue in a generalized or it is a generalized one from the first moment..

My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this?
I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.
The perfusion defect is in the distribution of the right coronary artery. There is no scintigraphic evidence of left ventricular dysfunction. Compared to the prior perfusion study of 09/29/09, the overall findings are similar.
Yet if I need to take an antibiotic I must avoid the mycin class. Mycins effect the metabolism of Phenytoin in the liver, slowing the elimination of it significantly. If I take a mycin class antibiotic, I may overdose on the amount of Phenytoin that I have been taking daily for years, simply based on this interaction. The Supplements you take may have similar effects on other supplements or medications.
