My Dad has been on a feeding tube for almost a year. He had esophagus cancer and they removed it and he is now cancer free. My question is why he is so tired all the time ? and what kind of quality of life he can have? He does not have much interest in the things he used to enjoy.It makes me very sad to hear him like this. He lives in another state, so I do not get to see him.
He has to be awakened to continue feeding and one of the nurses mentioned that she was going to speak with the doctor about a feeding tube. My daughter-in-law is scared. The only experience I have had with feeding tubes is when a patient is in hospice or critically ill. Is this routine with premature babies? Should we be concerned?

My son has been seeing a gastronoligist for 4 years, he has a feeding tube to help gain weight, he slowly gains very small amounts, then it seam overnite he can lose 2 lbs, every month we struggle to see at least 1 lb.

You need to get these puppies to a vet and have the vet show you how to tube feed them. By bottle feeding them you are not getting the required amount into them because the weaker they get from not eating enough, the less they are able to eat and it becomes a vicious cycle that feeds off itself.
In short, with tube feeding, you insert the tube down their throats directly into the stomach.
