Put this question again on the Doctor Forum, could she have had any reaction to the drugs she was given ask the Doctor who prescribed them all, sometimes they can react with each other.
Doctors shifted her to recovery room with oxygen mask and loaded her with Phenytoin thru IV. Then after 2 days, she was shifted to tablet dose of Eptoin 100 mg thrice a day and she is still continuing with it.
Before release from the hospital, the Neurologist performed an MRI, which came out normal. Also, my wife carries no history of seizures.
please help me:- upto what time should my wife continue with the dose?? and what could be the possible causes of this post partum seizure??
Peggy - I have had trouble with Dilantin since September. Horrible side effects that progressively got worse. The I tired going onto the 30 mg kapseals. Still I don't feel right and I am not going to continue like this; if I can help it.
Thyroid hormones (including levothyroxine): Phenytoin may alter the metabolism of thyroid hormones, reducing its effect; there is limited documentation of this interaction, but monitoring should be considered.

The Doctor, at that time, perscribed to me 200 mg of Dilantin (phenytoin sodium) to take each night. I have been able to live a regular life with no pain or muscle stiffness since then. The medications for this disease are Ani-Convulsants which is what Dilatin is. Ask your doctors to try 200 to 300 mg of Dilatin per evening for Neuromyotonia.
Salt is not in the list of ingredients, but there is 2 mg. of sodium in the asparagus and 20 mg. in the broccoli - -should I avoid that and just go buy fresh? I figured these were organic frozen veggies, so i didn't bother to look. Does that mean they added salt to preserve or something and since I don't know if it's iodized, I shouldn't eat it?
Sodium restriction is 2000 mg per day. Never add salt to food. Read labels. Most processed food have too much sodium. Restaurant food is full of sodium. Eat fresh food. Lots of vegetables, fruits etc.
Diuretic therapy is added if sodium restriction isn't tatoally affective. For cirrhotic ascites is the combined use of spironolactone (Aldactone) and furosemide (Lasix). Beginning dosages are 100 mg of spironolactone and 40 mg of furosemide by mouth daily.
I'm a 48 yr old black female who began having seizures 7-8 yrs ago. they have increased to about 1 time a week. I'm taking 750 mg of Keppra and Dilantin 100mg 2 x a day.
If there has been insufficient response after 3 – 4 days, then the dose is increased by 100 mg/day every 4 days to a maximum of 400 mg/day, unless high levels of potassium develops.
