Facial twitches are caused by stress and anxiety, muscle fatigue, side effects of medicines, high intake of caffeine, Parkinson’s disease in elderly, magnesium deficiency etc. Hemi facial spasm may be seen in tumors, multiple sclerosis, stroke etc. treatment may include balanced diet with mineral supplements like potassium, calcium, magnesium, massages for fatigue, B complex supplementation like avocadoes, bananas, legumes etc. drugs like gabapentin, phenytoin are used for hemifacial spasm.
All i get from my Neurologist is these are side effects that will eventually go away. Because i never know when these symptoms will come on too strong I have missed a lot of days at work during my probation period. I just want a normal life or to be my old self. Any suggestions? Feeling depressed and unmotivated to make plans...
ve compiled on realisation that my information on the side effects was flawed after discovering I was having other side effects than the body hair. We're all different and react differently, the list is just that a list of possible side effects. You may just have one or two, hopefully nobody can tick off every one ! Unless we know what they are . . . . .

Facial rashes, night sweats and the closing of my throat. That is when I stopped using Bactrim. All other side effects are gone except for the closing of my throat that comes on and off, especially when I'm done eating. It's been going on for 2 weeks (since my last bactrim dose). It doesn't make my breathing or eating any difficult but is just very annoying. It stopped for 2 days and happened one late night, 2-3 hours after drinking alcohol.
Acute alcohol consumption increases the availability of phenytoin (Dilantin) and the risk of drug-related side effects. Chronic drinking may decrease phenytoin availability, significantly reducing the patient's protection against epileptic seizures, even during a period of abstinence. Any form of alcohol, even beer is contraindicated for some time when you are weaned off dilantin.
Sexual activity is an exertional activity which can cause exertional or sexual headache.
Just wanted to update this. I found out that my phnytoin level is 22. not 2. The paper had moved when they faxed it and I didn't get the whole number. This is still low but not at bad. I got my appointment to see the neurologist for Aug 14.
Peggy - I have had trouble with Dilantin since September. Horrible side effects that progressively got worse. The I tired going onto the 30 mg kapseals. Still I don't feel right and I am not going to continue like this; if I can help it.
Thyroid hormones (including levothyroxine): Phenytoin may alter the metabolism of thyroid hormones, reducing its effect; there is limited documentation of this interaction, but monitoring should be considered.
AR-10 I am on 100mcg Levothyroxine sodium.

Although there is no harmful effects on longterm uses but there is no added benefit.Better you should discontinue it and it can be stopped all of sudden,no tapering is required.He did not had any TIA after december 2007 probably he is using aspirin,atorvastatin,atenolol regularly.Please continue these drugs.

The antiepileptic drugs need to be checked for a dosage modulation, assessment of adverse effects due to chronic usage over years like megaloblastic anemia, gingival hypertrophu and osteomalacia with phenytoin.

My son was diagnosed with a small biparietal subdural haematoma after a fall and CT SCAN DIAGNOSIS,admitted and discharged after 3 days.Was managed with Phenytoin,Mannitol and Neurobine.The head ache has completely gone since then and shows no sign of pain yet.Is he out of danger yet?Im very worried.V.B.J.
Folic acid supplementation in folate-deficient patients with epilepsy changes the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, usually leading to lower serum phenytoin concentrations and possible seizure breakthrough..."
It however says that initiation of Folic acid and phenytoin together is beneficial.
Since you can't go back and start all over again, you can take a small dose. It has been observed that as los as 1mg dose can perturb phenytoin’s levels, You may take doses lower than 1mg/day.

What tests were done previously? Eptoin contains phenytoin which is used to control seizures. SIde effects are usually dose-related and include nystagmus, decreased coordination, and mental confusion, dizziness, insomnia, and headaches. You can read more about this through this link:

A few weeks ago I woke up with yellow crust on the corner of my lips and it went away in 2 days, and today I woke up and it's in the exact same spot again except a little more then before. It doesn't hurt or itch, it feels like my lips are very very dry. I don't smoke, I have grandmal seizures and my medication is phenytoin and kepra but I didn't read anywhere that would be a side effect so I'm worried this could be a STD or something.
