Avatar f tn Just got an email from the np that said she had talked to the doctor and wants to put me on Vitamin k 10 mg daily. I gave her the pharmacy number and asked her to send me the lab results. Still waiting to hear back. Have any of you had to do this before? What is the Vitamin k used for? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Vitamin K is an essential vitamin but too much can be toxic to the liver. Vitamin K2 has shown more benefits to the liver, particularly in the area of fibrosis, also known as MK7, you can read more about it on the life extention web site. I think the verdict is out on whether this is a good thing or not for liver patients, and especially while on tx the risks may outweigh the benfit..
Avatar n tn I have heard that there is some problem mixing vitamin K with a blood thinner. I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
Avatar f tn I have read of using a constant daily low dosage (100mcg) of vitamin K to resolve INR instability the theory being that the instability may be due to a vitamin K deficiency and the constant dosage gives a bias level for the coumadin to work against. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?
Avatar f tn I think those who are opposed to a vitamin K shot for baby should do more research. Vitamin K can prevent a bleeding disorder, not blood clotting. Vitamin K aids in the ability of blood to clot, which is why it is given to newborns as a preventative measure. A lactation consultant friend sent me a link to an article, which includes statistics, about this very debate. http://evidencebasedbirth.
Avatar f tn There are possible negative side effects and it's 20,000 times more then they need there are alternatives such as breastfeeding and oral versions of it. I'm doing the other shots and I will vaccinate my baby. But the vitamin K if you need to sign a consent to a shot I think it's a little questionable. I have an appointment tomorrow I'm going to talk with my doctor about my options. Because I want him to get his vitamin K I would just rather it through different means.

535822 tn?1443976780 But, when someone decided to supplement them with magnesium, too, then their little bodies made use of the vitamin D and the children finally started to improve and they finally recovered from the Rickets. It was heart-breaking to read about how the parents were blamed for child abuse when it was really a case of malnourishment that the parents and even the doctors were unaware of. My neurologist wants me to concentrate on taking the magnesium supplements to help with the migraines.
Avatar f tn It has really not had any affect on me at all. The one thing that I know warfarin affects is Vitamin K. Vitamin K is what causes your blood to clot. Therefore the warfarin cancels out some of the Vit. K to make your blood thinner. I have to have my Protime (PT) checked every couple of months to make sure my blood is not too thin or thick. Really no big deal. BTW, it doesn't lower blood count, just the ability to clot.
Avatar f tn During those times I had not yet been diagnosed and was able to go back to life like normal, however after the diagnosis and being on phenytoin and switching to oxcarbazepine i am feeling awful. Dizzy, nauseated, moody, extremely tired, severe headaches that come and go. All i get from my Neurologist is these are side effects that will eventually go away. Because i never know when these symptoms will come on too strong I have missed a lot of days at work during my probation period.
Avatar n tn Drug interaction of Claravis or Accutane includes tetracyclines , vitamin A-type drugs, vitamin A, and drugs that cause bone loss such as anti-seizure drugs such as phenytoin and corticosteroids. If you experience severe headaches and other symptoms like mood changes, muscle /joint pain or painful swallowing or peeling skin, it is best that you inform your doctor for proper management. 4939681 tn?1361299299 Re Vitamin K: I realized not long ago that I had worked myself into a calcium deficiency by avoiding milk (I'm lactose intolerant), and I needed more calcium in my diet that I just wasn't getting enough of from dark leafy greens alone. A good friend who is an amateur herbalist suggested I take Vitamin K-2 (not just Vitamin K, which can be at least two kinds, K-1 and K2, iirc), because K-2 is the specific one that accomplishes the transport of the calcium into bones.
Avatar n tn The flesh of fish (such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel) and fish liver oils are among the best sources. Small amounts of vitamin D are found in beef liver, cheese, and egg yolks. Otherwise you can take fortified food like cereals etc. Spend time in Sun. Get your liver and parathyroid tested. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn told me to go back to the 200mg and she would have to talk to my Neurologist, I just had blood work done again and my phenytoin level come back at 2. How is that possible? I take my pills regular, I have had no seizures. I have such a hard time getting a hold of the Neurologist I thought maybe you could help me. Could my others pills be interfering. I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism since the seizure and high colestoral. I take Levothyroxine, lipitor, vitamin D, and calcium.
Avatar f tn Tingly feet, legs and hands, unbalanced and lightheaded and have passed out a few times. Now, with my new bloodwork my Vitamin K is elevated at 1453. I have no idea what this means. Avatar m tn This reaction is generally confined to the extremities but can affect the trunk and face and may be irreversible. Severe dermatologic reactions to phenytoin are infrequent. Some evidence, however, suggests that erythema multiforme is more likely in patients who undergo radiation therapy while receiving phenytoin.[22] Lupus-like symptoms have been described for phenytoin. Whether phenytoin administration will exacerbate preexisting idiopathic systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is unclear.
Avatar n tn The skin on the rest of my body does NOT do this. My dermatologist recommended vitamin C serum to improve my skin and vitamin K cream to help the bruises. He also prescribed ammonium lactate lotion for my dry skin. I have used these creams for several months with little result. The vitamin K cream does seem to help the bruises fade faster. Is there anything else I can do to prevent this problem?
1298588 tn?1330318981 In my country, we often lack vitamin D in the winter (cold and little sun) so we take fish oils or vitamin D supplements. Whenever I do this through a multivitamin, my B12 gets too high. No vitamin directly affect the heart rhythm, but several minerals do. It however says that initiation of Folic acid and phenytoin together is beneficial. Since you can't go back and start all over again, you can take a small dose. Avatar f tn The amount of vitamin K is an insane amount, I have read as much as 25,000 times the amount (give or take, depending on size of baby) and the overload causes the body to overreact and not absorbed correctly. Vitamin K toxicity causes jaundice, which is already a problem facing newborns without the shot. During the last trimester, the vitamin K levels for the mother decrease and more is passed through the placenta, therefore newborns have their own supply of vitamin K.
