Common Questions and Answers about Phentermine medication

phentermine

Avatar n tn Hello, Phentermine can alter your blood sugar levels, if you are going to try using it please use it with caution and monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently... if you notice changes and if your blood sugars are becoming too low then stop taking phentermine, and seek further advice about what you could use instead of phentermine. Remember that diabetes should be your priority.

568877 tn?1216822048 I am on Phentermine a diet pill, I have been taking it for 4 months. I have Anxiety and I am also Bipolar which I haven't had any Anxiety for over a year now. For about a month now I have been having Anxiety attacks and Depression really bad. I fought out I shouldn't take Phentermine if I have Anxiety or Depression. So I was going to get back on my meds. that I used to take which was Welbrutain XL and Xanxa .
Avatar n tn This could be a reaction to your new medication, but it is also possible that it is a reaction to something else you came in contact with, an infection or something else. You should stop taking the drug, and go to the doctor. Furthermore.... if you have a lap band why are you taking a dangerous and addictive weight suppressant? Phentermine has many side effects that can be serious and dangerous including pulmonary hypertension and addiction.
Avatar n tn My body aches and im tired alot and i have been taking phentermine to help loose weight but i lost 10lbs and thats all.
1397822 tn?1294279534 Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine with pharmacologic activity similar to amphetamines. Actions include central nervous system stimulation and elevation of blood pressure. As with other medications in this class mood effects are quite variable. But there are case reports of mania and psychosis, so it probably does have somewhat of a "mood elevating" effect.
Avatar f tn I started taking Phentermine 30 mg daily on Feb 4, 2009. To date I have not lost a pound. Infact I gained a 2 lbs. I have increased my exercise on my Elliptical (30-60min/day) and started to eat healthier. How long does it take for phentermine to kick in? Any advice? Anything I should say to my physcian?
Avatar n tn m curious why more studies have not been conducted to study the correlation between phentermine and acne? Acne is not listed as a possible side effect of phentermine, but phentermine is considered a methamphetamine; methamphetamines are known to causes acne. I am a biology teacher and am frustrated that medical professionals are not confirming the overwhelming reports of acne being associated with phentermine. Is it a conspiracy????
551496 tn?1215614366 I have been taking Phentermine for 2 and a 1/2 months now. I started taking it in April almost on the same day as my period started. Almost one week after my period stopped another one began. So I made a dr appointment. The doctor done a pap and tested me for all the std's....and felt me for cist and everything came up normal....she said that starting the new medication was the possible reasoning for the 2 periods that month and to contact her if it continued.
Avatar f tn I went to see my doctor and he put me on phentermine 37.5mg once a day and topamax 23 mg in half doeses twice dailey. I also take adderall 20mg twice Dailey. I asked him if theses two meds who interact with one another and his response was no . I guess my question is how do I safely spread them out during the day. It seems I can't get it right because when I take either or I get very anxious . I already take a anti anxiety med clonazepam for accational panic attacks.

481269 tn?1208280771 I have taken Phentermine several times in the past and I was told by my DR. to AVOID drinking alcohol while taking phentermine. Phentermine is a stimulant that is similar to an amphetamine. It is an appetite suppressant that affects the central nervous system. It worked great for me loosing weight. But, I do have 2 friends that mixed alcohol and phentermine and it was NOT a pretty site. It can increase some of the side effects of phentermine.
Avatar m tn You make a great point that weight loss medication like phentermine is not a long term weight loss solution. If you do go back to old habits, you might expect to gain back the weight that you lost. But the good news is that you're in a good starting place and you are still motivated to keep it going. Good luck! Dr. B www.theflexdiet.
Avatar f tn I really stop taking medication, if I track from the first day of my life. I would be 5 1/2 weeks. I am most concerned that it may already affected the babu or may cause a miscarriage or birth defects. Does anyone have experience with us? Or no? Is there anyway the doctor could tell if the baby is OK?
Avatar f tn I am not fully versed on the full range of possible side effects from the medication Phentermine. I would suggest perhaps having a conversation with your pharmacist and your prescribing physician about any symptoms that might be attributed to taking this medication. Best of luck in this regard and please be sure to visit our community and update us as to how you are feeling.
Avatar f tn I can't comment on the thyroid concerning med's at all. I do know that you should be questioning the phentermine though. I take BP med's for my blood pressure and went on phentermine ~1 1/2 years ago to loose weight as a last choice thing. I took 1/2 doses due to the incline in my BP and was having chest pains. I did loose 51 pounds in 6 months in which was great, plus full of energy while on it. Though in the last year it has all came back, plus now my energy level has sunk.
Avatar f tn I was given phentermine 15 mg by a "doctor" at a weight loss clinic. I'm a bit skeptical because of all the negative reviews I have read. I am currently 136 at 5' 3'' and want to get to my pre pregnancy weight of 120. I have tried other diets and just cant seem to get the extra weight off. My son is now 1 and i'm starting to feel a bit depressed about the extra pounds. Is 15 mg enough for me to lose the weight?
Avatar n tn Many physicians are not comfortable prescribing multiple weight loss medications at the same time out of concern for increased risk of side effects. Also keep in mind that phentermine is not generally recommended in the long term. It may make more sense to just stick with one of the weight loss medications to see if there are any beneficial effects. It's also a good time to think carefully about how the weight loss occurred while on the new medication.
Avatar n tn my doc. gave me phentermine 37.5 should i take it if i already have heart polputations?
2092846 tn?1332978512 I was taking adipex (phentermine) for like 6 months and it did nothing for me. I would take it in the morning and i could still eat. I would still get hungry and tired. I even would take naps sometimes. My cousin took it and lost alot of weight. Why not me?
Avatar n tn i take 125mcg synthroid and take 37.5 pill of phentermine. lately been getting heart palpitations and anxiety attacks does that make sense?
Avatar n tn I'm in the process of switching to a new dentist and the new patient form I had to fill out asked "Have you ever taken any combination of the drug known as 'fen-phen'. This includes phentermine (Adipex, Fastin, etc) and/or fenfluramine (Pondimin)." What does it matter if I have taken this? I haven't taken fen-phen, but I have and do occasionally take phentermine?
Avatar f tn My father is 52 yrs. old, he's been insulin dependent for about 15yrs. He's 5'7 and weighs about 200lb. He really doesn't follow a diet. He eats whatever he wants, but when he checks his blood and it's about 300 or 400 he just injects his insulin. Since he eats whatever he wants, he doesn't lose any weight. Doctor's have told him he needs to lose weight. He also has had high cholesterol, but took some meds and it's normal now.
Avatar f tn I have been on phentermine for about 2 weeks and the first week I felt great but this week I am feeling super sad. I don't really have a history of depression so this is all new to me. I don't want to go off the medication, is there any way to change this?
Avatar f tn You may have withdrawal symptoms, such as depression and extreme tiredness, when you stop using phentermine after a long period of use. Do not stop using phentermine suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely.
673515 tn?1234320119 One day when i went back for my yearly pap test my gynecologist told me i had my pressure very low and she was the one that told me that if i did not wanted to die to stop the phentermine right away and she did explain to me that phentermine works just while i take them but after i stop i was going to gain weight again and thats why i stopped it right away.
Avatar f tn Fastin is the same as phentermine, which is a prescription medication that works as an appetite suppressant. Because it is a stimulant, you should talk to your doctor about whether it would be safe/appropriate for you, especially given that you are taking atenolol, which is often used to reduce the heart rate or reduce palpitations. Generally, phentermine would not be expected to help with weight loss beyond ten pounds or so.
Avatar n tn Though rare, euphoria can be a side effect of Adipex-P® (Phentermine). Similar to amphetamines, phentermine increases the release of norepinephrine and dopamine from nerve terminals that can cause the “calming effect” you're describing. It could also simply just be that you're feeling better with the weight loss and therefore in a better mood.
