laryngitis

Avatar n tn Most acute cases are caused by viral infections (40–80%), with the remainder caused by bacterial infections, fungal infections, or irritants such as pollutants or chemical substances.[2][3] Treatment of viral causes are mainly symptomatic while bacterial or fungal causes may be amenable to antibiotics and anti-fungal respectively. gastroduodenitis Pronunciation: gas′trō-dū-od′ĕ-nī′tis Definition: Inflammation of both stomach and duodenum.
Avatar f tn Hello, If your wife has enlarged tonsils and it is painful for her to swallow, these are symptoms that are, in general, consistent with pharyngitis (inflammation of the throat). Infectious pharyngitis can either be bacterial or viral. Bacterial pharyngitis is usually accompanied by a fever and there are usually not other symptoms such as runny nose, cough (more consistent with viral infections).
Avatar m tn The symptoms you descirbe are non-specific and may have very well been due to a bacterial pharyngitis, viral illness and, rarely HIV. Given the nature of your exposure however, it is most likely that this was something other than HIV. I would not be concerned. If you are worried/anxious about the possiblity of HIV, you could test now- a standard HIV test is typically positive with 4-5 days after the onset of symptoms (in your case, your sore throat).
Avatar f tn No. It´s not an allergic reaction. You have a BACTERIAL respiratory infection, complicated by an ear infection(also bacterial). Requires medical treatment with proper antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Sore throat may be caused by either viral or bacterial infections. There is no simple way to distinguish a viral sore throat from a bacterial sore throat. In your case,I feel it can be caused by coxsackie virus. This virus causes a disease known as herpangina. It is most common during the summer. Symptoms include a high fever and the presence of tiny grayish-white blisters on the throat and mouth. The blisters erupt in a few days and are followed by a scab which may be very painful.
Avatar n tn Hi, probably it is viral pharyngitis, please try betadine gargles along with anti histaminic (you are already taking one) and decongestants like pseudoephedrine. If no relief is seen in 3 days, get throat cuture done to rule out bacterial infection ( strep etc). Pain killers like ibuprofen might help too.
Avatar m tn Generally if one of my patients complained of the same symptoms you described in your question, I would be suspicious of a bacterial pharyngitis caused by a Group A Streptococcal (“Strep throat”). In adults, there are specific criteria, called the Centor criteria: - Fever: subjective or measured >100.
Avatar m tn Will Herpes Laryngitis/Pharyngitis cause no sores in the mouth, tounge or lips? Is this some kind of bacterial infection or viral infection? Any suggestions highly appreciated. I took an appointment for next week with my ENT.I see the transmission rate of 4% with unprotected sex from female to male with HSV1 genitally. I have also attached the pic for skin rash that occured on my skin.
Avatar f tn Around 2 weeks ago, I went to the doctor and was told I have viral pharyngitis. My symptoms were a slightly sore, but scratchy throat. I had some pain in my right tonsil and right ear. My throat was red but not that inflamed or swollen. Most of all, I suffered from a really bad breath. It would still persist no matter how much I flossed, brushed my teeth, did mouthwash, or chewed gum. Around a week ago, I began to develop a sickness.
Avatar n tn the blind swab or Endoscopic or sinus aspirate can be cultured to rule out secondary bacterial infection. Plain sinus films and sinus CT may show sinus fluid levels if present. Most common causes for pain are musculoskeletal pain followed by acid reflux. The measures you need to take for acid reflux is, -you should stop taking spicy food, vinegar, alcohol, cigarette smoking if present. -A 24hrs gastric pH and urease breath test with endoscopy will help to substantiate diagnosis.
280234 tn?1532986249 While acute pharyngitis or sore throat that can last up to a month before fully resolved is usually associated with viral, bacterial, or even fungal infection, chronic pharyngitis is often due to a persistent infection of the tonsils or gastrointestinal issues like laryngopharyngial reflux or esophagitis. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn What is wrong with me? Do I simply just have viral pharyngitis? It has been a month and 2 weeks since I found out that I have viral pharyngitis, could have been longer.. Why wont it go away? What is wrong with me?
Avatar f tn Thank you. Dave but i am not sure if viral pharyngitis causes exudates so i know it is bacterial for sure.
Avatar n tn Swollen lymph nodes across multiple areas or generalized lymphadenopathy can be due to viral infections such as mono or EBV or cytomegalovirus or due to bacterial infections like TB. HIV or AIDS, leukemia, lymphomas and other cancers can also be a cause. This could also be due to inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. It is difficult to determine the cause on net. This is not something you should ignore. Please consult your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn s way of getting rid of an irritant, be it viral, bacterial or an allergy to any substance like dust, dust mites, feathers, smells and so on. As this is a dry cough, and being a diabetic you should not be consuming sugar laden cough syrups, get up and have a warm drink. You can now buy throat lozenges that contain no sugar, so you can try those to help soothe the throat.
Avatar f tn Made an appointment the next day and was diagnosed with viral pharyngitis.. My doctor did not prescribe me anything just said gargle really well, and take Tylenol if needed.. The symptoms subsided by Monday, but now I feel really nauseous, and been having the urge to do the number 2 a lot in the past day.. Wanted to know if this has anything to do with the pharyngitis?? Avatar n tn I had unprotected sex. On the 3rd day I started having strange feelings of numbness and light pain in my throat. The same day I noticed a few small red spots on soft palate. About 5 weeks after I've got cold symptoms such as cough, severe pharyngitis, pain and redness in my eyes, oral thrash, fungal nail infection, weight loss about 10-12 lb, dizziness. Three and a half month later I still have the same symptoms. I can see that I've got many visible purple capillaries in my mouth.
Avatar n tn Does it ever mistake HIV RNA for human RNA or non-infectious viral RNA? Or even infectious viral RNA if someone has a typical cold when providing their blood sample? Or...would the false positive rate be more likely attributed to human error as opposed to something biological due to the complicated nature of the test?
6710145 tn?1395234434 The doctor will only prescribe antibiotics if you have a bacterial infection. Antibiotics will not work if you have a viral infection. If your itchy ears don't settle or get worse, then make an appointment to see your doctor as you may require an antibiotic ear spray.
Avatar m tn If the escort was on a early stage of contamination, high viral load, is a transmission as mentioned in my previous thread still possible (blood or body fluids oh her nails followed by light bleeding cuts on me) 3.Should I get worry about Hiv with an abnormal IgG2/igG4 ? I hope this is as short and precise as you like.
Avatar m tn End of sept I got sick and my dr said I had viral pharyngitis. Got better but now I think I have thrush. Bump came back as wart. Only had one. None since. I've been stressing out big time and have anxiety prior to all this. I've lost some weight. My oral hygiene isn't great. I was tested for HIV about a month ago and it's negative. The two married woman I've been with over the last year were also tested negative. I read a lot online. I'm so worried I might have HIV.
242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
762652 tn?1256610399 Hi, the symptoms of yours suggest some generalized infection (bacterial or viral) . Your symptoms are suggestive of acute rhinosinusitis (ARS) which is a symptomatic inflammation of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. It is commonly due to viral infection associated with the common cold. Otherwise it can be complicated by bacterial infection. The armpit swelling may be lymph node swelling; you need a FNAC of that to rule out the pathology.
Avatar n tn From this page: http://www.sh.lsuhsc.edu/fammed/OutpatientManual/RespIllness.htm "Exudative pharyngitis is not a specific finding for strep pharyngitis; it also can be seen with EBV, adenovirus, herpes simplex virus, and other viral infections.
Avatar n tn What you describe suggests that you may have acquired a viral pharyngitis, and this is often characterized by persistent cough, lasting for a few months or more. Pharyngitis does not cause tightness of the chest but you may have developed some bronchospasm, in response to viral bronchitis. This could be aggravated, but not caused by cold weather. If you were intubated during the sinus operation, you may have had irritation from the tube, rather than infection, as a cause of the pharyngitis.
