Percocet withdrawal symptoms treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet withdrawal symptoms treatment

percocet

Avatar m tn My 25 year old son called me 2 hours ago and told me he has been taking Percocet for the past 2 months. He tried to stop and is having horrible withdrawal symptoms. He is coming to stay with me for the next 4-5 days so I can help him through it. I have no idea what I am up against. He has no insurance and just started a new job so he can't go into any treatment facility. It's up to the two of us. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what to expect w/ms contin withdrawal. I've been using 3-15mg tabs every 4-6 hours since July and prior to that used 1-2 15mg tabs every 4-6 hrs for the last 3 yrs. This was for chronic pain mgt. I also had percocet for pain flair up. However, I found the ms contin worked much better at pain control and didn't seem to have all the high effects the percocet does.
Avatar f tn sounds like withdrawal symptoms from stopping them.
Avatar f tn It is possible that you will have withdrawal symptoms when you quit taking Percocet. Even if it is for short period of time that you take it. Our bodies and minds have long memories. I had been clean for about a year from taking Roxicodone, when I broke my leg and had to have surgery. I had to take pain pills for a little while. I was not taking Roxicodone, but something much milder.
Avatar f tn Yes...you'll have withdrawal symptoms. But,more importantly, your liver is probably pretty pissed off right now. You've got a tolerance now. What's your plan?
Avatar m tn If you have bathroom issues get some imodium. It is really helpful for that as well as other withdrawal symptoms. It's really important to stay hydrated. You were on a fairly low amount and not for too long so I would think the worst will be over after 3 days. It may be sooner or a bit longer but hang in there. If you go back to pills, it will only get worse and so will the withdrawals. We end up having to take more for any type of relief.
Avatar f tn Symptoms of withdrawal include nausea and diarrhea, coughing, lacrimation (tearing), yawning, sneezing, rhinorrhea (runny nose), profuse sweating, twitching muscles, abdominal and muscle pain/cramps, hot and cold flashes, and piloerection (of body hair). Elevations in body temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, and blood pressure may also occur.

Avatar m tn You only experience withdrawal symptoms if your nervous system has changed to become dependent on the Percocet. This change, called dependence, takes time to develop. I used medications like Percocet for years without developing dependence. During this time in my life, there were many months when I would use up my pills in three weeks or less, and then have to get through the rest of the month using OTC meds or alcohol to quiet my pain.
Avatar n tn Not all over again but mentally it will set you back...try to get back on track...be sure you catch yourself next time...sometimes u can identify and trigger that may have caused u to use...were u finished with withdrawals when u used?
Avatar f tn I was taking anywhere from 6-12 pills a day depending on the pill. How long does the withdrawal last and what symptoms do I have to look forward too? I already have sweating, anxiety, stomach cramps, tiredness, goosebumps, shivers. So here's the thing, I didn't have any pills all day Sunday, yesterday I had five 5/325 hydrocodones and today 1 hydro. I was trying to tapper down but it's not helping. So what is the worst I have to look forward too.
Avatar f tn I decided to cut them in half and wean off slowly, because I was afraid of that even within a week I would have withdrawal symptoms. I had my last one last night, and decided to flush the 1 and several halves I had left. I feel awful! My stomach aches like a hollow hole, I have been having soft stool(SORRY if this is TMI), I have been puking, I feel so weak. I don't know if this is from the Perc or if I have the flu? I was only on them for about 8 days..
Avatar m tn what is the difference betweed norco and percocet. please include withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant and have stopped using the medication, I have been experiencing withdrawal symptoms for the last 4 days. Day 2 was so bad that I was taken to the ER where they wanted to detox me by putting me on methadone through my entire pregnancy, making it so that I and my baby would both have to withdraw after I give birth. I denied that help and left...It is bad enough for me, I could not let my child go through it.
Avatar n tn This individual will almost certainly experience opioid withdrawal. While "unpleasant" this will not be life-threatening. Early symptoms of withdrawal include: Agitation Anxiety Muscle aches Increased tearing Insomnia Runny nose Sweating Yawning Late symptoms of withdrawal include: Abdominal cramping Diarrhea Dilated pupils Goose bumps Nausea Vomiting http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000949.
Avatar f tn I guess my question is, how has everyone used clonidine in withdrawal and is it a bad idea to be taking it with the percocet? It certainly is making me feel worse and is making me feel the withdrawal symptoms almost and Im wasting the percocet since it is having no effect. I am just really scared and dont know where to turn. I am unemployed and need to be looking for a job and with how awful I am feeling physically I just dont know where to turn.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry, but I can't see how gabapentin will help at all with withdrawal symptoms. The molecules are completely different and I don't think they even use the same receptors in brain. I'm not familiar with the post you're referring to, but the gabapentin was probably prescribed to deal with pain rather than withdrawal symptoms. An old alpha blocker blood pressure medication called Clonidine is often used to help patients through withdrawal.
Avatar f tn t be asking about cold turkey? Many would rather go ct just to get it over with. When tapering the withdrawal symptoms are not as extreme but they linger around the whole time you're tapering. I myself would rather taper as I have in the past and got by with little to no withdrawals. But after relapsing a few times my addiction to the pain meds spiraled out of control and my willpower went out the window. I'm not sure how you started taking the percocet.
Avatar m tn Hi there and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry it took so long for someone to reply. It can be slow around here on weekends. Hang in there as I'm sure others will also weigh in. You have been on a fairly high dose of Percs for a long time. You managed to do a very quick taper. I would say that you are still going to experience a few days at least of withdrawal symptoms. The "worst" may not be over. Have you ever gone through this before?
