percocet

Avatar f tn Acetaminophen-oxycodone has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Acetaminophen is routinely used for short-term pain relief and fever in all stages of pregnancy. Acetaminophen is believed to be safe in pregnancy when used intermittently for short durations. Use of narcotic analgesics in late pregnancy is associated with the risk of neonatal withdrawal. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Percocet is the brand name of the generic drug oxycodone and acetaminophen and Vicodin is a brand name of the generic drug Hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Both oxycodone and Hydrocodone is a narcotic drug and are often used in combination with acetaminophen or APAP, a no steroidal anti inflammatory drug which helps in increasing their potency.
Avatar n tn Oxycodone is excreted in breast milk in low concentrations, and there have been rare reports of somnolence and lethargy in babies of nursing mothers taking an oxycodone/acetaminophen product. Acetaminophen is also excreted in breast milk in low concentrations. In light of that information, I think I would stop taking them immediately and talk to your OB doctor. A good website that tells you what medicines are safe during pregnancy is: http://www.safefetus.com/index.
Avatar f tn Jean, I am glad you are trying to get off the Percocet. I believe the highest dose available in US is 10mg of oxycodone/ 650mg acetaminophen. Thus, not only are you taking a lot of narcotics, you are also overdosing on Tylenol that can actually damage your liver. The best way for you to proceed is to slowly taper the dose, never taking above the recommended amount. Wright out a table for yourself, i.e.
Avatar f tn Percocet is Oxycodone and Acetaminophen. Percocet is a brand name and there is no liquid Percocet. There is a liquid version of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen called Roxicet, however. It's not necessarily measured in mg's though. It's measured in ml's in which 5ml contaings 5mg of Oxycodone and 325mg of Acetaminophen. Now that I've written all of that...I have to ask..why do you ask?
Avatar f tn I think you want to know more about the drug you are abusing. Percocet is one of the brand names of the drug oxycodone when it is combined with acetaminophen. Oxycodone is semi-synthetic and was created in the mid 20th century to improve upon other opioids such as morphine or codeine. Although the chemical composition of oxycodone is almost identical to heroin, oxycodone abuse often lacks the strong taboos and negative reputation of heroin.
Avatar n tn Is Oxycodone without Acetaminophen stronger than just Oxycodone Hydrochloride? My mother has been on Percocet for years, and for some reason her doctor has now switched her to just Oxycodone. She seems to think that 5mg of her new perscription is stronger than 10 of her old one(Oxy and acetaminophen...perc)! Is this true?
Avatar f tn Percocet also contains acetaminophen, however, you can get oxycodone alone wthout the acetaminophen in it. Oxycodone can also be obtained in a long-acting formula called Oxycontin. Since everyone is different and their pain is also different, it's impossible for anyone to say whether one is better than the other. I'd suggest talking with your doctor about pain control if you require it and let him/her suggest/prescribe what he/she thinks is most appropriate for you. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn I have been taking percocet (oxycodone acetaminophen) 5/325 1 pill 3 times a day. That was a great system that worked for me. Recently I was prescribed oxycodone minus the acetaminophen. I understand the risks of liver damage. However, I have had NO relief since I began this new drug. I'm confused because it is the same drug minus the Tylenol. Anyone else experiencing this? Would taking a higher dose of the oxycodone (not Percocet which is oxy with acetaminophen) help me better?
1064524 tn?1257199755 It is my understanding that you cannot get either hydrocodone or oxycodone without the acetaminophen. Oxycodone is no longer manufactured without the apap at least it is still unavailable in my state. Hydrocodone is simply not made without the apap. Otis brought up a several good point that I neglected to mention. Primarily all pain medications have side effects, some worse than others. Often how your system reacts is based on ones individual make up. My pain med contains acetaminophen.
4204073 tn?1361831476 Then, there is Oxycontin, which is a long acting, sustained release form of Oxycodone (again, no Tylenol). Then there is Percocet, which is Oxycodone with Tylenol (which is available in different strengths).
Avatar f tn If anything I need to get my meds lowered or get the doctor to write the Percocet without acetaminophen. They do have Percs without acetaminophen. Being an ex heroin user, I know I am addicted to the pain meds and it will be a fight to get off them but I am determined to do so once I can get my back in better shape. Like I said I am just worried that the Percocet I take now is damaging my liver.
Avatar f tn Like the other posters said, Oxycodone does not have acetaminophen in it and Percocet does, which can be harder on your liver. It sounds like your Dr is willing to work with you on these changes. Maybe try what the other posters said and cut your pills in half to see how you do on them. You might do just fine or you may need an increase but really think about doubling it right away.
Avatar m tn percocet (oxycodone) is immediate release with acetaminophen. oxycontin is just the oxycodone without acetaminophen that has a time release coating on it to make it last longer. both are highly addictive.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had arthroscopic ACL reconstruction 5 days ago and was initially prescribed Percocet (5 mg oxycodone 325 mg acetaminophen) for pain. Now that my pain has lessened, I only take it at night because it makes me fall asleep almost instantly. Physical therapy is painful and ibuprofen doesn't help much, but I dont want to take percocets during the day so my dr gave me a prescription for 50mg tramadol, which I have never used before.
Avatar f tn I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
1271743 tn?1320892461 Everyone reacts differently to different medicines. The only difference between Combunox and percocet is the added ingredient. Percocet has acetaminophen and the Combunox has ibuprofen. It just depends on what works best for you and you will have to try each one to see how it would work for you. Percocet comes in various strength's and to my understanding the combunox only comes in one which is 400mg ibuprophen/ 5 mg oxycodone.
Avatar f tn Both percocet and tramacet contain acetaminphen, which is Tylenol. Percocet is a combination of Oxycodone/Acetaminophen. Tramacet is also another combo medication containing Tramadol/Acetaminophen. Mostly it is pain medications that you see the "cet" at the end of and all that means is that it contains acetaminphen. Both narcotic and non-narcotic pain medications can contain acetaminophen.
Avatar f tn Liver pain would be a symptom that showed up later in liver damage. If you stay with what your doctor prescribes, you should be fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about, especially since your doctor checked your liver enzymes. I'm sure you're aware that a lot of things have acetaminophen in them. So you just want to make sure you don't take anything else that has it in it. You also shouldn't drink alcohol, especially if you're at the upper limit.
Avatar m tn The perscription will say on it how much tylenol it contains or if it contains aspirin (which I doubt pre-surgical). Next to the oxycodone it will say, apap ###. That is the amount of acetaminophen (tylenol) in it. So as an example it may read, oxycodone 7.5mg/apap 500mg. Physicians don't always tell you the amount of acetaminophen that the particular narcotic contain. The reason again for that is it is written on the script. I hope that helps answer your question.
Avatar n tn Just a quick correction...Percocet is oxycodone with Acetaminophen, and Percodan is Oxycodone with Aspirin, not Tylenol. There are other, less common combinations, like Vicoprofen, which would be Hydrocodone with Ibuprofen instead of Tylenol (Acetaminophen). Vicodin, Norco, Lortab are all Hydrocodone. Dilaudid comes both in oral and injectable forms, with doses starting at usually 1 mg. Fentanyl patches typically start at 25 mcg/hr (micrograms). I have seen lower doses, 12.
