Percocet with codeine allergy

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet with codeine allergy

percocet

Avatar n tn Any over the counter cough meds do not work. Seems like the only thing that helps this cough is codeine medicine or like percocet pain medicine...in which both is hard to get doctor to give prescription for. Can you help with any suggestions on home remedies that i could try? Please help!
Avatar n tn My husband whom I left to a percocet addiction recently received a Tylenol with Codeine prescription for his "BACK PAIN". Shouldn't he not have this narcotic due to his severe addiction to oxycodone?
Avatar f tn Allergy testing in children is not terribly reliable, my son's doctor says. She says they can come up as sensitive to something that in real life they don't actually react to, and not show as sensitive to something that the parents know from observation that they are allergic to. She says it is better to just observe carefully, and test by experimenting with one food at a time.
Avatar n tn My father gave me this Canadian tylenol with caffeine and codeine in it. I have been taking it for months at about 12 to 16 a day as that's what he said to do. I took my last four this morning. I am really frightened that I'm going have bad withdrawals from it. What can I do? Please help!
Avatar f tn i had a problem with prescription medications several years ago, clonazepam, immovane and codeine. i went to a treatment center for almost one month and never touched another pill that i thought i could become addicted to - almost 8 years later, this past December, I fell and broke my hand and was prescribed Percocet by the ER doctor for the pain. I knew I should have refused it, I had never had this medication before, but was well aware of the addiction level of it.
Avatar m tn i was wondering why tylenol 3 would make me constipated? because percocet doesn't. would it be the codeine causing the constipation? is this a 'normal' question? and is it 'normal' to be constipated from one but not the other? thanks for all your help.
599170 tn?1300973893 You're about right with the meds and their strengths. I had a cervical discectomy with fusion and really didn't need pain meds beyond about the third day post surgery. My problems started about 7 months after the surgery when it became apparent that I had developed adhesive arachnoiditis as a result of the nerves in my spine reacting badly to the dye in the myelogram before the surgery. Had I not had the myelogram, I would no longer have needed pain meds after the surgery.
Avatar n tn Tylenol #3 with the codeine is a little easier withdrawal than the percs...
Avatar f tn Took an awful long time to figure that I was SENSITIVE to morphine/codeine. After operations I went nuts with nausea and ITCHING...that dang oxygen thing up my nose!! I told them FINALLY about this that I finally had to figure out on my own and got on different anesthesia. WOW. What a difference!! Allergies imply something altogether different and one CAN develop an allergy to drugs such as morphine and THAT YOU don't want happening.
Avatar f tn I have a really bad toothache I really want to get a hammer and smash my teeth out. Since im 23 weeks I need my Dr to fill out paperwork for my dentist but I have no car my husband works all week and he's already taken a lot of time off work over these two weeks cause of appointments. I was wondering if I could take codeine? Has anyone taken it while pregnant? I take Tylenol but it's not working rite now and I'm in so much pain.
Avatar f tn I've been taking a bit of codeine to help with oxy w/d (I've never had problems getting off codeine -- doesn't do anything for me), found some clonidine, and feel like a zombie. I have some valium, which helps a bit with sleep. Anyhoo, it's been a crappy withdrawal, but not as bad as the last one in rehab. Stopping the codeine tomorrow, back to work Tues., but it's still hard to walk a few blocks without sitting down. Mood is ghastly.
Avatar m tn I'm hesitant to answer this because no one can guarantee the safety of any medicine, no matter how well-known or understood that medicine... however...opiates by themselves don't do "damage" persay...aside from the obvious stress on your liver and addictive potential, they don't get in there and permanently damage your systems. They do screw with your endorphin production but I really don't think it has anything to do with what you described.
Avatar f tn I have a very addictive personality and have been using different drugs over the past 4 yrs (percocet, lortab, tylenol with codeine, fioricet with codeine, etc), just to give you guys an idea of how long this has been going on. I have only been taking the Tramadol for about 6 months (no other drugs). Any advice will be greatly appreciated, as well as any prayers!

1615943 tn?1410627667 Also I have just recently had a tooth extracted and ended up with a dry socket. my pain meds have been switched from percocet to tylenol 3. Perhaps this could also have something to do with the lack of sleep.
389342 tn?1200699464 so ive been feeling fine, well , not fine, but getting through pretty well. If you have read and posted on the "my story" section, you know that i am on day three of withdrawaling off percocet. anyway, for anyone who isn't up to date on my situation, i was taking the percocet for ongoing oral and jaw surgeries. I hated taking the pills, they made me go to sleep. so i wasn't addicted, but my body had defintely build up into dependancy.
Avatar f tn Tired *****, but if you were not tired you could be saddled with anxiety. Take the tired and just go with it for now. Tomorrows a new day....
478811 tn?1208474960 Percocet is oxycodone and tylenol #3 is codeine, a weaker narctoic but is also habit forming,,,,always look at your tylenol content as you could inadvertantly take more as it is not quite as strong....
Avatar f tn I have been taking fioricet with codeine for years for migraines & pain associated with lupus. I did something really stupid and took a Percocet a few days before going to pain clinic appointment, of course I failed the test, first time ever happened. Nurse said tests showed up for hydrocodone. I have a prescription for from a dentist. I wasn't suppose to get filled a year ago but nurse said don't do again. She asked me if it helped.
5141762 tn?1364220967 Can you take codeine ?
Avatar m tn Examples of these would be heroine, opium, morphine and codeine. An opioid is a synthetic drug made to mimic the effects of an opiate. These would be Percocet, Fentanyl, Methadone, Oxy, Demerol, etc. Opiates are said to be more addictive. As far as your question about receptors....yes there are differences. I used to say opiate and opioids not knowing the difference until I googled "Opiate vs Opioid" a couple years ago.
Avatar n tn Why is it that a Doc. can call in a refill for an hydocodone or codeine script. And cannot call in one for percadan/oxycodone ?
Avatar f tn he was down to taking 6 5mg vicodin, a day, which I am familiar with, then I suggested to him to ask his doctor to put him on codeine #3 he was having a diffiucult time with it, but has been on it for about six weeks now, says taking 8-10 per day. do you think he can c/t off the codeine now with minimal withdrawal or should he taper more. I know they are much weaker than vic's and he has stabilized on them for over a month. Withdrawal is very hard for him......
Avatar m tn Yes, I agree with horselip. Perhaps the codeine is creating a false positive. Your doctor should come to the same conclusion.
973849 tn?1274946979 Otis provided you with some good information and I agree with him. Some medications work better than others for different ppl. Percocet (oxycodone) does little for my pain yet the less potent Vicodin (hydrocodone) is more effective for me. It makes no sense but it is a fact. I tend to agree that the dosage of the medications given you were either not high enough or they are opiates that your system does not effectively utilize. Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) comes in several dosages.
Avatar f tn I’m in the UK and a number of times when reading posts have wondered what certain drugs are in the US as they are all called different things in the UK. What exactly is Vicodin, Percocet etc? We have codeine phosphate here which contain 30mg of codeine each. When I see people talk about 5’s and 10’s etc, are they talking about pills with 5mg or 10mg of codeine in or is it completely different?
Avatar n tn Codeine is a weaker opiate than heroin, but if you take enough of it (high dose or a lot of pills/liquid, whatever) you will get just as high. A lot of how bad withdrawals will be depends on your age, health, how long you have been using, etc. You cannot do this alone, sweetie. I mean...I guess you could try, but it will be torture. Find an N/A group, or a counselor, SOMETHING so you can talk to other people in recovery. It will get better...I PROMISE. Just don't relapse.
Avatar m tn Hey gang.......today is day 22 off of Percocet, I am about to go to the doctor, I have no desire to get anything narcotic for my pain(herniated discs w/ nerve impingement)........can anyone recommend any non-narcotic/non-habit forming pain medication? I do not want to go through w/d's again......I learned first-hand that taking percocet, as directed for over a year(7.5/325 every 4 hours)can still get you addicted even if you're not abusing it .
1038815 tn?1253268557 How long does it take to get Codeine out of your system if you go cold turkey?
