Common Questions and Answers about Percocet vs vicodin pain

percocet

Avatar f tn t have had any kind of withdrawal going to Percocet from Vicodin. Whatever occured was unrelated. Percocet is stronger than Vicodin. Try not to over think this. It will be what it is...it won't be the worst thing you'll go through. Just not pleasant. It's truly like having the flu...

Avatar n tn yes, percocet is a class 2 narcotic and vicodin is a class 3. Percocet is an oxycodone with tylenol, and vicodin is a hydrocodone with tylenol. If ever you need a refill you can't have a doctor call in a class 2. Both are addictive equally...
Avatar m tn I was recently switched over to the percocet 5/325 my body was becoming tollerant to the vicodin to the point where they were not relieving the pain anymore. I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once.
Avatar f tn I have been on Percocet (10 mg 4 times per day, 1 pill every 4 hours) for about 4 months, before that 3 10mg pills per day. My dr. just switched me to Morphine Sulfate ER 30 MG, 2 tablets per day (one every 12 hours). I'm always nervous when I switch or increase pain meds. I start these new meds tomorrow...can anyone tell me what to expect with regard to how this new medicine may affect me vs. the percocets I've been taking?
Avatar f tn I would go with the oxycodone (percocet) over the hydrocodone (vicodin), because it's possible to get the oxycodone in it's pure form in a pill without the tylenol in it. The -cet suffix on the percocet is what denotes the acetominophen or Tylenol. In the generic form, it would give the mg strength of the pill (ie, 5/500) and then say APAP on the label.
Avatar f tn I am strongly against the use of acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) as part of the treatment of long term chronic pain. Vicodin, Percocet, Tylenol #3, Tylenol #4 are OK for short term acute pain from surgeries etc. but using them long term everyday as a regimen for treatment of chronic pain is very damaging to the liver. Opioids alone DO NOT damage internal organs. They are one of the safest medicines out there for pain.
Avatar f tn m looking for something other than Vicodin, Percocet and Neurontin (3600 mg/day) to use for pain. The Vicodin works a little bit, as does the Percocet. The Neurontin also works a little bit and again, am looking for one pain RX that would work for all instead of taking more than one. Have a friend on the Fentanyl patch and she swears by it. Says it is much better at pain relief than the Percocet or Vicodin and she's not on Neurontin. Please help.
Avatar n tn I have a couple questions concerning possibly having a tummy tuck done. I have 3 children and we are considering a fourth in the next year and a half. With each pregnancy, my abdomen has become more stretched and I'm left with an "overhang" or an "apron" of tissue no matter how many toning exercises I do.
890900 tn?1284577303 ADELPHI, Md. - Government experts say prescription drugs like Vicodin and Percocet that combine a popular painkiller with stronger narcotics should be eliminated because of their role in deadly overdoses. A Food and Drug Administration panel on Tuesday voted 20-17 that prescription drugs that combine acetaminophen with other painkilling ingredients should be pulled off the market.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have thyroid cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck. A week ago I had surgery to remove the lymph nodes (surgery went well and I was sent home). Now I am on percocet for the pain. I have been able to reduce my doses and think I will be completely off in a couple of days. My doctor said after the surgery, I could start trying to conceive.
Avatar f tn From my pain management/spine specialist, I am currently prescribed percocet one tablet of 5-325 twice a day as needed for pain. I am also prescribed Tramadol 50 mg tablet: take one tablet daily as needed for breakthrough pain. Currently I have been taking one tablet of tramadol mid morning and one tablet of percocet at night. My question is are any of you prescribed 3 different pain medications?
1295973 tn?1279756268 I recently got off pain killers i was taking vicodin for leg pain/back pain and was also perscribed a couple days ago percocet for my back but i have stopped taking any pain meds. I was on vicodin since april of this year and recently ive been having huge migraines that dont seem to go away, feeling weak, rapid heart beat that feels kind of fluttery and sweating ... what could be the reason why i have been feeling like this?
Avatar m tn My question relates to liver damage related to the use/abuse of pain medication. By pain medication I mean OTC(Tylenol/Advil) and of course, Vicodin and Percocet. The short version is: For the last 10 months I have struggled with lower back pain. I am 24 years old, 6'5'', 220lbs and generally healthy/athletic build. I started taking a lot of Tylenol(4g a day, but never more), sometimes mixed with Advil to curb my back pain. I then moved on to the doctor and go prescribed Vicodin.
Avatar m tn I'm on zoloft and I sometimes take my moms vicodin/percocet for pain and I'm just wondering is it safe to take these combinations together? Basically: Zoloft+Vicodin= safe? Zoloft+Percocet= safe? Will the Vicodin or Percocet decrease the effects of the Zoloft? OR can it cause permanent brain damage? I took 2 Vicodin's a couple days ago and then took 1 Zoloft pill an hour later and I started to feel weird/loopy. Could I have caused permanent brain damage?
599170 tn?1300973893 You're about right with the meds and their strengths. I had a cervical discectomy with fusion and really didn't need pain meds beyond about the third day post surgery. My problems started about 7 months after the surgery when it became apparent that I had developed adhesive arachnoiditis as a result of the nerves in my spine reacting badly to the dye in the myelogram before the surgery. Had I not had the myelogram, I would no longer have needed pain meds after the surgery.
710547 tn?1295446030 You really need to be tapering under a doctors supervision due to your medical issues. The pain will increase for awhile. It is called rebound pain. Alot of times the meds quit working and increase your pain too.
1279189 tn?1275244868 My question is if I just stop the Vicodin, if the patch works out great for pain management. Will I have withdrawals from the Vicodin?... Also just want to know with the patch, do you get that spike In Energy like I get from the Vicodin, one of the things I did enjoy with the vicodin...haa haa... As it helps keep up with my 2 and 10 year old..Just woundering. Just trying to imagine what I will feel like with the patch, I have to work and a Mom of 2...
Avatar f tn Hi everyone :) My Dad recently had a stroke, during which time they found occlusion in one of his legs, causing foot pain. He's currently on Oxycodone. But I'm looking for a better pain management option(s) for him. From what I've been able to ascertain, Vicodin, Celebrex, Darvo- or Percocet have seemed viable options. Can anyone share their opinions on this??? Thanks so much!

Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago I had steroidal injections in my pelvis and asked for something stronger because the tramadol wasnt working. I only take the vicodin at night, but it doesnt get rid of the pain. I tried a few times to not take it, but when I dont I get very restless and get a bad headache. When I take it the heafache goes away within 10 to 20 mins and the restlessness goes awau too. I dont want to take pills all the time, I already have a bad liver from a previous surgery.
