Percocet vs vicodin es

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet vs vicodin es

percocet

I am trying to take only 10 percocet a day and survive. WHat does 10 percocet equate to in terms of ES vicodin? I am having some pretty nasty nausea at night and heart palpitations and nausea dizzyness. I have cut down overnight from 14 to 15 pills daily to 10 pills daily and it is causing me some of the nastiest withdrawal I have ever had yet from it. I think I tried to taper off to quick, but in the past I have never had to taper like this.
Now I have a prescription drug problem myself but I ahev never taken more than one Norco (10), 1 and 1/2 vicodin es and pecocet 5, or 2 vicodin 5mgs at once. I basically am on a 10 year habit, albeit with many clean times over that period. Am I "Lucky" that my tolerance is the same? Even when I take for my back pain, I never increase teh initial dosages. I do, however, take about 8-10 doses a day. I can't wait for the day to quit. It is going to be soon.
I have been taking vicodin ES 750mg 90 tablets a month for the past 2 years due to my bad knees. I was recently switched over to the percocet 5/325 my body was becoming tollerant to the vicodin to the point where they were not relieving the pain anymore. I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once.
I was not a heavy abuser, but I have taken Vicodin-Percocet-Tylenol 3 throughout the pregnancy for migraines and ovarian cysts. It was helpful to read your concerns, I took the medicine sometimes when I wasn't in any pain, I just took it (like you) to feel more comfortable around people. I felt that daily life was easier to deal with on a pill, but the sad fact is that everything comes back time times worse when the pills where off.
/The other important issue here is the fact that there is nothing wrong with using Ultram or opiates (codeine, Vicodin, Percocet, etc.) if you have a chronic pain problem and are not abusing your medications by taking more than is prescribed, getting it from more than one doctor, etc. Chronic pain patients sometimes do become physically addicted to their medicines. This will happen even if you take the prescribed amount for a long enough time on a daily basis.
In general people who are prescribed painkillers are given oxys if the vicodin or percocet doesnt kill the pain without taking a large amount of them.
about switching from Ativan to Serax. I too am trying to come off hydrocodone (about 10-15 Vicodin ES a day for a very long time). I tried doing it cold turkey but that was hell and I always went out and got more pills somehow. I tried using Xanax during the CT, but even that didn't help. I went Monday and confessed all to my Doctor, and he was wonderful. I am now on a slow weaning process; 10 pills a day for 5 days, then down to 7, then 5 then 3 etc. All supervised by him.
If you are addicted and you want to get off it cold turkey you should look up the Thomas Recipe that is listed in this forum. I have been on vicodin ES for a year and a half taking 8 to 10 a day. I decided to admit that I have a problem to my doctor and she is weaning me off. This may also be a good idea for you unless you have the will power to just get off of it cold turkey. I sure would not be able to, but I have heard of people doing it. My doctor just started weaning me off.
I am going to try and be brief, basically I got started taking tyl number3 then moved to vicodin es, I was given it for a valid reason, (lots of dental problems). Problem is I started really liking it, it made me happy and relaxed more then anyone who has not "enjoyed" the effects could ever understand. I have never been given enough at a time to get hooked, at least physically.
I had a long history of depression etc for many years. I was prescribed Vicodin ES for migraines and chronic hip pain for these last 15 months. Before the vicodin, I was tried on every combination known to man and psychopharmacology never proved to be beneficial. About fifteen months ago, I was hospitalized at Cedars sinai Psych unit for depression, cutting and suicidal ideations. I was perscribed 100mg od demerol for about 33 days which would addict anyone to narcotics.
Hi all, I would just like to say that I have been lurking on this site for awhile now before finally deciding to kick my habit. I have been addicted to Vicodin on and off for around 2 1/2 years. I recently decided it was time to stop after having taken it for 3 months straight. I just did not like what I was becoming, and what this drug was doing to my life in general.
There are many different pills containing hydrocodone, Lorcet is simply 10mg vs. 5mg with Vicodin. All drugs containing hydrocodone are very addicting.
for any who are concerned about not having a pain relief thats equal or as effective as vicodin or percocet, ther are other options.
At the worst of it, I was taking 80mg/day somtimes 120mg/ day of Oxy, and percs (6-8 7.5/325's) when they were around and Vicodin ES (7.5/750) as well! I am going through pretty bad w/d symptoms right now. I still have one Vicodin left and I have broken off a 1/4 a couple of times today when the w/d seemed unbearable. Should I be doing this or am I just prolonging the agony? I read also in another post that Clonidine will help with the w/d. What dosage is appropriate?
Then I went to a pm doctor for the first time and he took me off the vicodin es 3 to 4 , 4 x a day and fentanyl patch, somas. He then put me on opana er...didn't work, oxycontin and percocet...i hate anything with oxycodone so i got off that. I went back on the fentanyl patch 75mcg and within almost 2 months i went up to 150mcg b/c my tolerance was so high. I detoxed cold turkey and it was the worst and most painful, scariest thing that ever happened to me.
This past Tuesday he decided to switch me from Vicodin ES to Percocet..he said he was worried that the pharmacy's would start cutting back on the amount they keep in stock because of so many robberies for Vicodin in this area and in the country. I had been up to about 7 or 8 Vicodin a day, then when i would run out with a week to 10 days before i could get them filled again I would just do without. The strange thing is, ive never experienced the wd's i've read about on here....not once.
Does that mean that Hydrocodone in a Vicodin isnt the same as in a Perc? Or that oxocodone and the oxocodone in a Perc 5 mg Vs a oxocodone in a 5 mg just plain pill are different other than one has apap and the other doesnt? TO make it a little more simple , is a 7.5 es Vicodan more powefull than a 5 / 325 perc? Arent all codones in the same family and just an opiate or? I read your posts all the time and you are obviously well researched and expericend .
I used to take 'Viox, Soma, Flexeiril, Neurontin, Lido derm patches, Amitripiline, Vicodin, Norco, Percocet and even Diluadid. Currently I use Methadone, Celebrex, and ES 7. 5 /750 for breakthourgh pain, and also accupuncture which helped very little. I saw a pain management specialsit and he doesnt know what else to do except see the Neurosugreon as it has been almost 10 years ago that I hurt my back and I am tired of being in pain and not being able to do what I used to.
Rex, First off...Kudos on the Simpsons reference!!! You can never go wrong with Homer. Secondly...You hit the nail on the head. We must avoid drugs if we're not honest with ourselves regarding them. I have stated before my injuries & pain. I have also openly admitted to taking a pill or two occasionally since my detox. The only way I manage this is that I am COMPLETELY honest with myself. I AM an addict...however...I DO HAVE a tremendous amount of pain...daily. I CHOSE to be clean.
two 20mg Oxycontins, Two 1mg xanax,, 4 soma And 3 vicoden ES, a day ,,I dont know How much morphine you take but I have taken the MS contin 100mg befor, and they did nothig, I took and bite a 100mg pill;. Morphine is no where near as strong as oxycontin, I just dont like It when people put down opiate meds because they are hard enough to get without Drug abusers going around saying how bad they are;.;. my web page ...commnity.webtv.
I hope you meant four 80ms of oxy instead of 480mgs! But then it never ceases to amaze me at how much opiate when put into our selves after time and still function..Preparing for back surgery years ago I told my neuro-surgeon I was taking 8 vicodin es'..... He looke shocked and exclaimed to me "8 A DAY!" You're gonna need to detox!" I said no Doc...8 at a time 4 times a day...he got all gray looking and almost fell over...
Vicodin ES(that of course has loads of Tylenol)was given... for months, to my husband, for major herniated discs and nerve damage. This is what helped to bring him to end stage liver disease! Please, anyone reading this, who has help C...DON"T take tylenol! If you don't have liver disease and just the hep c virus, tylenol can push a person right into the next stage! My husband was on the transplant list at the University of PA and we learned so much!
There are also different names, lortab, vicodin, norco etc all hydrocodone with different brand names. Vicodin Es has 5/750 , lortab comes in 5/500 and 5/750, norco is the best at 10/325. Percocet comes in 5/325, 7.5/325 and 10/325. There is Oxy ir which is percocet with no tylenol. Oxycontin ahs no tylenol and I am on oxyfast which is liquid percocet with no tylenol. I think these are the most common pain meds used. Tylenol is a dangerous drug and sadly MANY people don't know it.
I have been going to a pain mgmt specialist, though I use that term loosely and with sarcasm, for 5 years. For 5 years, I have been on 4 Vicodin-ES per day, for trigeminal neuralgia. I moved here with this diagnosis established, having already tried and failed on many meds, and Vicodin-ES being the only thing that worked. I, too, have to take it every single day or I die from withdrawal symptoms.
i no what you are going through. it has been 8 months of vicodin es after surgery. tried to stop-very painfull-singer.
Tom, Hey! I don't think you're understanding what pill I'm talking about. I read your letter again & you called them lorotab & vicodin. It is hydrocodone, but these have more in them than those others do. I've taken lorotab 7.5, vicodin & percocet(10), they were all like eating candy to me. They did nothing. I have to take at least 4 lorotab 7.5 to equal to 2 lorocet. I take lorocet 10/650 or lorocet plus. Well, I'll write more tonight. Thanks everyone!
Don't know the your whole story but this is what I did from a 12-15 a day Vicodin ES. First start with reading the postings from the last month or so, that's how I started. I "lurked" and learned and then I had more questions and I posted those questions and so on.... On here is the how, why, when and advice from alot of great people...read, read, read and then decide which would work best for you. Hope that helps!! It did me!! Good luck and good reading!!!
I wenst to see 2 (only 2) doc and my insurance called both physicians to let them know they were dispensing Vicodin ES at the same time... Conclusion, none of those doc want to see me again and my insurance was nice enough (being sarcastic) to let my specialists know about my problem... (OB, dentist...). I have bad endimitriosis and migraines and trust me, I know I abused those drugs but I do need some pain control. I have been clean since Feb 4th..it has been tough but I manage.
Does anyone have any information that would help the withdrawal sypmtons of Vicodin, Klonopin and other meds. The doctor put me on these meds for chronic daily headaches, now they want to detox. But every time they do, the pain is horrendous. I have to go to see my neurologist on 4/1/03 for detox once again. I do not know how much more I can take.
