Common Questions and Answers about Percocet vs ultram

percocet

Avatar f tn Hi Jujubean48, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. Would you mind letting us know the reason that your Doctor gave you for switching you? Was the Norco 10/325 not managing your pain as well as it used to? Had you asked for the amount to be "upped"?
Avatar f tn Ive been taking percocet on n off for 5 years. More on than off. I use to subsitite with norco, 10mg when id run put pf my 30 month supply of 120 after 2 weeks. I try to taper, and it helps. I recently went up to 6 a day of 10/325. O have 3 left with one ready to inhale for the am. I am coming out of a drug imduced psychosis episode. I've gotten them before, but this was the worst. Im taking 2 mg xanax which has brought me back almost 99%.
Avatar f tn When I told my doctor that I wanted off they were supportive. Gave me ambien, clonodine patch and I have been on klonopin for months for horrible panic attacks related to my brothers death. They also gave me ultram. I haven't taken much maybe a few a day (I get absolutely 0 feeling/high from them) but they said it would help. Has this whole 80+ hours been a waste? Am I going to go thru this again when I stop the ultram.
Avatar n tn i was addicted to percocet i had alot of mouyth surgeries.i was on subxone but i just got dianised with ms my doctor wont give me anything but ultram he said it will help is this true?
Avatar f tn t want withdrawls either. Also, are the effects like that of Lortab or Percocet? Have to go to work and need to know what to expect. Thank you kindly in advance for your assistance.
Avatar n tn ok - have you ever gone a day without percocet and just took ultram? I had Clonidine but did not have ultram. After day 5 I had some issues with my energy level and depression but i have always had depression issues so I don't want to influence you too much even though depression is a major symptom of withdrawal. Don't be scared. You need to do this. You cannot go on using the amount that you are. There are so many wonderful people on this forum.
Avatar m tn It is easier to get off Vicodin than ultram (aka tramadol) because tram is synthetic and contains an antidepressant. Like sub and methadone, also synthetic, the withdrawal is long and arduous. Vicodin is the weaker of the narcotic pain meds and detox, although not fun, is over relatively quick. 1 to 2 weeks tops. Tram w/d lasts for months.
Avatar f tn Currently, i am on Percocet 10/325, i take about 6-8 a day. Two concerns i have...... 1) If i take 2 percocets around 6pm, i will wake up in the middle of the night with withdrawal systems. For an example, i can't sit still, i have to shake back and forth, heart palpations, just plain old miserable, so i take just 1 percocet and in 30 min, i fall back to sleep, thank God.
1225178 tn?1318980604 I had to take ibuprofen too - Ultram did absolutely nothing for me. Once in a while I could take a percocet or two but the doc was pretty careful because of my past history, so I only got them for real emergencies. I think your doc should write you something better than Ultram...you couldn't use it all the time or you'd become addicted to it as I once was however once in a while it sure could give you some relief.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. I am going to look into the wean schedule on Ultram. I'm starting to think Ultram is worse than Percocet? As for the Percocet I took one this morning when I got up around 9 am. My pain is coming back (from doing absolutely nothing!) so I just took some Motrin. I want to see if that works, and if I get any withdraw from no Percocet. I better figure out something....I don't plan on going back to pain management if possible. Thanks again!
Avatar f tn s physical W/D were much more tolerable even though I ONLY took 1 Ultram.. I dont get it.. On the days I was taking 2 Norco and 6-8 Ultram I was W/D-ing really bad but now the physical effects seem to be managable today. Does this mean that the W/D's from the Norco are subsiding or will they come back FULL FORCE??? This is so frigging hard especially since no one in my family knows about my struggle and I need to keep it that way..
Avatar f tn Here is an old thread talking about the differences between Ultram (which is just tramadol) vs. Ultracet (which is lower dose tram with added acet). Hope it is helpful: http://www.medhelp.
406036 tn?1216188561 I was able to control the dose combard to the the Ultram. Ultram is the same as Tramadol except that you only take one pill with Ultram...and you have to wait for results. While you are severe pain, that is a long time to wait especially since vicodin and tramadol works faster. Since you will figure that out, you will find yourself taking more ultram just to make sure that you can have the least amount of pain possibe. I felt myself taking another Ultram because the pain was blinding.
Avatar f tn I can't taper cause I have no more meds to take. I would love to do that but my Dr doesn't care. They said you will just feel bad for a few days. I'm so confused about the hole thing I don't want to hurt my kids. U also dnt want to depend on the percocet either I haven't taken ultram in a week. I have noticed changes not being on them.
Avatar f tn Lona11 Member since Jun 2008 , Jun 30, 2008 08:27PM As someone else on here said, I use Ultram (tramadol) when I don't have percocet to avoid the withdrawal. When I take the Ultram, I won't have any withdrawal at all but if I didn't have any percocets or Ultram, I would go right into opiate withdrawal. The good part of the tramadol though is I don't crave them the way I want the Percocets.
Avatar f tn I have taken 300 ER vs 8 x 50mg, per day for years, for per. neuropathy. Sometimes I took more, and only sporadically was I "affected"by that. Has seemed like a very safe pain med option. Never remember a problem quitting cold turkey ( or from 8 10/500 hydro's / day either for that matter ). Isn't that a little odd ? I do seem to have a HUGE tolerance, so they say. I don't drink or smoke ( good thing with the acet.in the hydro, eh?
Avatar f tn I have been on 10/325 percocet/ 50mg ultram for the last 3 months. 90 percocet a month and about 60 ultram a month. I am not addicted, I take the meds as prescribed for my pain but I want to eliminate opiates and synthetic meds all together but I am afraid of withdrawals. Is it something I can do at home or do I need treatment?
Avatar f tn If you have been using Lortab then try Ultram, it would be like the effects of a baby aspirin. I did use Ultram 6 pills a day with Vicodin to help the painful times. I finally said I can't affford all this medicine (at the time 11 meds) so with the doctors help, I slowly got off of Ultram. I took about 6 weeks to do it and had no side effects or extra pain. I've been off of it for over a year after being on it for >4 yrs.
Avatar n tn can topomax be used for opiate (percocet) withdrawal? I have heard that ultram is good for that but then you are addicted to the ultram. I also heard neurontin is helpful and that topomax is similar so I wondered if anyone had tried topomax for withdrawal.
Avatar f tn i am going thru the worst withdrawals cold turkey after taking percocet, vicodin, ultram and ativan for over two years. No one will help me thru this and I am all alone. I have not slept, or eaten in three days. I am about to give up. I am looking at a full bottle of muscle relaxers and they are looking pretty good right now. I I just cannot do this. Help???
680303 tn?1239984840 There is just so much out there, meaning, in my opinion, not a great deal and the most used ones like percocet, make me sick. So far, the ultram did help somewhat and esp. when combined with the ms contin. I really don't want to make it complicated. As many have said it is trial and error. Thanks again, everyone for your help. Iwish you all well. Blessings.
Avatar f tn It does sound strange because dope is a lot more pleasurable than ultram. You should really stop both and stop the maddness. I have seen this give them one drug to replace another drug routine backfire many times on this site. Just stop all these drugs. It takes time to re-adjust.
Avatar m tn was doing some reading and it seems the dol hcl is like the hydrocodone and the regular dol is like ultram--- however the ultram er is totally different than the regular ultram??? anyone know the diff on these nightmares??
Avatar f tn m not sure bout Vicodin but percocet is actually safer for the baby than ultram.
Avatar f tn Whether you get withdrawals being on Ultram remains to be seen. Percocet is stronger than Ultram, but if they're using the long-acting while you're tapering, that may work. I just want to point out you need to be very careful with Ultram. The withdrawals can often be worse than withdrawal from other narcotics. I'm sure others will chime in on this. The reason Ultram can be so hard to get off is it has two components to it.
