Percocet vs methadone

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet vs methadone

percocet

Hi, I have taken both narco and Percocet for neuropathy pain. I have never taken methadone.. I was on narco for 4 years then as my pain was worse, my pain specialist started Started me on endocet 10mg. ( oxycodone 10mg with acetaminophen 325mg.) Percocet is oxycodone 5 mg with acetaminophen 325mg) I started the endocet by taking 1/2 tablet to 1tablet 4 times a day,, I found the oxycodone to be better for me than the norco. My pain specialist does not like having to adjust methadone doses.....
I am taking Percocet NOT Oxycotin....Percocet is Oxycodone NOT Oxycotin My other question is I have been taking two Percocets pd for 3 weeks now. If I quit....
I am currently taking 2 Percocets a day (10 mg each) and three Methadone a day (10 mg each). Just guessing, I would say that one 5 mg Percocet would be the equivalent of maybe three or four ES Vicodin? I don't think I would even feel I had taken anything if I were to take one 5 mg Percocet, I basically don't feel anything with the 10 mg anymore, so don't ask me why I am still taking them. The ER must have given you a large RX for the Percocet if you are considering taking 10 of them a day.
it would have just been better for you to detox off the percocet. methadone is a monster. is the clinic ready to let you taper already? i would get off as soon as possible. it is a much worse drug to detox from than the percocets. dont let them up your dose. tell them you want to get off. you decided it was a bad idea. the clinic will have to lower your dose. after 6 days i would even consider just not going to the clinic anymore.
Ive been taking percocet on n off for 5 years. More on than off. I use to subsitite with norco, 10mg when id run put pf my 30 month supply of 120 after 2 weeks. I try to taper, and it helps. I recently went up to 6 a day of 10/325. O have 3 left with one ready to inhale for the am. I am coming out of a drug imduced psychosis episode. I've gotten them before, but this was the worst. Im taking 2 mg xanax which has brought me back almost 99%.
I suspected oxys to come up on the test but there was also methadone. He then broke down and admitted to me that he had stole the methadone from a friend not knowing what it actually was and that he had been buying pills here and there and abusing again. I dont believe fully what he had to say, but I know he has a problem.
i started out messing with lortab 10's (about 2 a day) and now ive kicked it up using percocet 10/325 and im eating about 6-8 a day.. im 24 years old weighing about 110lbs (small guy i know).... it finally kicked me in the face the other day i ran out of percocets for 2 days and i found myself sweating and feeling like ****, i couldnt work and did not have the motivation to do all the things i normally would... i thought i was sick and coming down with a flu..
We typically chat about personal issues, after my urine test (per recent New Laws) to prove that I am taking my meds that’s prescribed VS selling them on the street, and our appt typically ends with him asking “any changes” – I say, “No”, and he hands me my script… Scripts for percocet and/or stronger narcotics must have a written script VS calling or faxing it into the pharmacy.
Can you possibly relate a comparative for me that might rank dropping off the oxycodone vs. the methadone. Right now my methadone dose is 10Mg 3 times a day. For them moment I'm taking 10Mg twice a day and 5Mg at bedtime. I have severe sleep apnea and I don't want to die from not breathing in my sleep and since even at 5mg I woke up sweating last night it's a concern. A real one. Oh it's a wondeful life of pain for sure...
Thankfully there isn't tylenol in the oxycontin, but the tylenol with percs is surely compromising these organs' well being. My very good friend, a percocet abuser, just got off a dialysis machine 2 days ago, for failed liver and kidney function. He is an otherwise healthy 32 year old man. Then there are changes that occur to the brain, that in many cases can be permanent. Some addiction specialists draw the analogy of an addicts brain to a person that has had a stroke.
Also just b/c it was a schedule II drug and she gave you a hard time about it, you should have asked her if it would've been Percocet from a pharmacy with your name on it, would she still be stupid and ask to search. No difference in Methadone and Percocet. She gave you a hard time b/c she thought you were a heroin user. That really is starting to **** me off the more I think about it. You are entitled to all your money back and I would sue them on grounds of unlawful detainment.
My insurance stopped paying for brand oxycontin so I was switched to Methadone for pain management. My mood definitely changed on those. It was awful. So I went back to the oxycontin and pay out of pocket. We all react differently so you very well could be reacting to the oxycontin. However taking a medication and having to take more than what is prescribed is not good for you long term. You need a proper pain medication so you don't need to take more medication than you need.
DONT USE METHADONE. its THE worst drug to detox from , most never do.
I've read that methadone w/d is worse than any full agonist opiate because of the 24 - 36 hr half-life (compared to 2 - 4 hrs for oxy or hydro). Symptoms are apparently milder but they last a long time, or so I hear.
Hows it going, i have used and abused mostly percocet since 1990 as a result of a tractor trailor accident. I have also used on and off Methadone,Your right there does seem to be a bias on this forum in regard to methadone.I believe the majority of the drama in regard to how hard and terrible it is to get off meth is from those looking for a quick fix.Cronic pain requires also a remedy, unlike those that only use for the Eurphoric and or buzz. They are in a different class.
I've been slowly tapering off of a 15 year Methadone maintainence program for about 2 years now. Roughly dropping 5 milligrams every month or so. About a month ago my dose was at 3 mgs. At that point I really didn't feel to bad during the day although the nights were horrible due not being able to sleep. At that point I decided to just stop the meth all together, rather than prolonging the agony of dropping from 3 -2, then 2-1 etc.
Does anyone have an idea,as to how strong any strength Opana(brand name) is to Oxycodone? My new PM Dr. wants me to get down from 40mg of Methadone to about 20mg,in only one weeks time, before he starts precribing me Opana. I've already had been taking huge amounts of 15mg Oxycodone a day,for 5 years also, along with the Methadone. I tried to explain to him, just how tolerant,I had become to the Oxy,but I think it fell on def ears.
I was married to his father, and it turned out he was using me for his green card. When I had my son, the performed a C-section. I was given Percocet for this procedure. Long story short, when I took these percs, the pain was GONE and I didn't dwell on my son's father day and night. After my prescription ran out (it lasted about 2 days), and the dr wouldn't refill, I stopped taking them. Then 7 weeks later, when I got a job, someone was selling them at the job.
After a car accident 4 years ago I went through percocet wd's could turkey. Worst 2 weeks of my life! Unfortunately I was put on hydro's about a year ago due to deteriorating discs and severe tendonitis/arthritis in the wrists from playing music. I am currently on a taper program where I was taking 10+ Norco's per day and now I am down to 5-7.5's per day. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
They don't give me the same high as HC or Vicodin, but I have heard they are still addictive. Any advice?
I wouldn't split up really high dose pills (80s, for example), but if you're splitting up 20s you're basically getting the same amount of OC as one or two percocet (5 or 10 mgs). and most important, just accept the fact that you're going to feel uncomfortable.... :( good luck.
i have been off of methadone for a long, long time and the w/d for methadone are the hardest opiate w/d's there are in my opinion... i agree with the folks who suggest a slow tapering off it at all possible. that is the easiest on your body. no matter how i ever tried to taper down going down the rest of the way to nothing kicked my butt... let us know more about the reasons you were on methadone in the first place, opiate dependence or pain control...
I'm now on day 11 without and going to a clinic where I'm talking to counselors and taking prescription Methadone on a daily basis. Life is STILL HARD. Although Methadone is helping....I still miss my drug of choice OXYCOTIN. It still calls to me and I still think off going out and getting some. The Methadone helps because I have NO withdrawl symptoms such as sickness and etc.. and the cravings are cut down to maybe a fifth of what they were without.
To me///methadaone and sub are very similar///one is not worse than the other...addiction to sub seems to happen faster than addiction to methadone for many, both are addicting as doo doo once u been on either for a while//they both get into ur bones and ur teeth for many//hard to shake//pqain relief wise, methadone is superior having taken both//both have a long wd..
Almost one-third of prescription painkiller overdose deaths involve methadone. Six times as many people died of methadone overdoses in 2009 than a decade before and methadone is supposed to be the “addiction treatment of choice” . Suboxone has also been involved in numerous overdose deaths. In medicine, everything should be a balance of risk and benefit. Before undertaking any medical procedure risk and benefit ratio must be carefully examined and assessed.
I'm afraid I have no medical info to help you with (doc dan, if you're out there, please help this guy!). But I can observe, if I were getting enough methadone to control pain, I can't imagine being depressed. I just can't quite see it. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to try going off the anti-depressants entirely for a week or so and seeing how you feel. Effexor is an SSRI, like Paxil. You can compare the two by going to: www.rxlist.
I posted this in my long long post about opioid withdrawals but no luck so I thought I would do a new thread.... I am coming off percocet 7.525 2 - 5 x a day and oxy 20 mg 2 - 3 x a day for the past couple years. I have a script for clonidine .1 which isn't doing much so I called my regular doc and he is going to put me on Klonopin ( Dosage unknown until I get script tomorrow). From what I can tell these are 2 totally different drugs. Has anyone used Klonopin for opioid withdrawls?
I'm 5 weeks and need to know what I can take for pain. Lortab methadone what?
