Percocet vs codeine

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet vs codeine

percocet

Avatar m tn Examples of these would be heroine, opium, morphine and codeine. An opioid is a synthetic drug made to mimic the effects of an opiate. These would be Percocet, Fentanyl, Methadone, Oxy, Demerol, etc. Opiates are said to be more addictive. As far as your question about receptors....yes there are differences. I used to say opiate and opioids not knowing the difference until I googled "Opiate vs Opioid" a couple years ago.
Avatar m tn Picking a well-tolerated opiate is usually a 'hit or miss' process. The differences in tolerability come from several factors. For example, for some opiates, the administered medication is a 'prodrug' that must be converted to the active drug by the liver; an example is the conversion of codeine to morphine, which is more efficient in some people than in others. There is also wide variation in the degree of nausea produced by different medications in different people.
Avatar n tn My husband whom I left to a percocet addiction recently received a Tylenol with Codeine prescription for his "BACK PAIN". Shouldn't he not have this narcotic due to his severe addiction to oxycodone?
Avatar f tn Have you been addicted to Tylenol 3 with Codeine? Can you please help me out with my addiction such as sharing your tips, stories and so on.I just joined this site and don't know where to begin.I get T3's prescribed 3 per day, 20 every 7 days (wed-wed) but I also get them on the side from someone I lie to.I want to stop, I dont even know how long its been.It just grew out of control and i had enough but cant beat the withdrawl and i am scared cuz I also dont want help from Doctors.
Avatar m tn i was wondering why tylenol 3 would make me constipated? because percocet doesn't. would it be the codeine causing the constipation? is this a 'normal' question? and is it 'normal' to be constipated from one but not the other? thanks for all your help.
Avatar f tn i had a problem with prescription medications several years ago, clonazepam, immovane and codeine. i went to a treatment center for almost one month and never touched another pill that i thought i could become addicted to - almost 8 years later, this past December, I fell and broke my hand and was prescribed Percocet by the ER doctor for the pain. I knew I should have refused it, I had never had this medication before, but was well aware of the addiction level of it.
Avatar n tn Tylenol-Codeine No.3 is W A Y weaker than Oxycodone. And would be MUCH easier to come off of.
Avatar f tn The last time I was there, they gave me percocet for my migraine. My doctor was actually the one who gave it to me. So yes, I have had to take them during pregnancy. BUT only under strict observation from my doctor. Normally, I just take tylenol if I have pain.
Avatar n tn So Fiorinal is codeine based.. got it...
Avatar f tn spel lastsfrom 30 min to an hour and a haf with spasms coming every 20 seconds, My surgeon is weaning me off the percocet and I wiil get 15 or the the final 10. Avatar f tn I have a really bad toothache I really want to get a hammer and smash my teeth out. Since im 23 weeks I need my Dr to fill out paperwork for my dentist but I have no car my husband works all week and he's already taken a lot of time off work over these two weeks cause of appointments. I was wondering if I could take codeine? Has anyone taken it while pregnant? I take Tylenol but it's not working rite now and I'm in so much pain.
Avatar m tn I'm hesitant to answer this because no one can guarantee the safety of any medicine, no matter how well-known or understood that medicine... however...opiates by themselves don't do "damage" persay...aside from the obvious stress on your liver and addictive potential, they don't get in there and permanently damage your systems. They do screw with your endorphin production but I really don't think it has anything to do with what you described.

389342 tn?1200699464 if someone gave me a tylenol or a tylenol with codeine, id never know the difference from looking at it. i had never even seen a percocet until my dentist placed me on it in october. the only reason i caught onto it was that i felt really weird after taking it, so i called my mom and asked her to make sure she gave me a tylenol.
Avatar f tn Hello!! I also abused Percocet. You are early in your withdraw...it is going to take some time. The first week is pure hell I'm not going to sugar coat it. You will get through this!!!!!i am on day 19 today and still dealing with issues. After the first 7 days the physical withdraws will subside quite a bit. Stock up on items in the Thomas recipe...they will help!!!! How much and how long were you taking the percs? Stay strong and good luck to you!!
1615943 tn?1410627667 Tylenol 3 is a combination of acetaminophen, codeine and caffeine. Usually codeine like other opioids and derivative is associated with dizziness, unlike in your case where sleep is missing. Possibly effect of caffeine or due to excessive stress prior to surgery. This may increase the anesthetic requirements during surgery. You could visit the hospital tomorrow and anti anxiety, medicines could be prescribed which can allay anxiety preoperatively. Try to take it easy and all the best.
478811 tn?1208474960 Percocet is oxycodone and tylenol #3 is codeine, a weaker narctoic but is also habit forming,,,,always look at your tylenol content as you could inadvertantly take more as it is not quite as strong....
Avatar f tn I have been taking fioricet with codeine for years for migraines & pain associated with lupus. I did something really stupid and took a Percocet a few days before going to pain clinic appointment, of course I failed the test, first time ever happened. Nurse said tests showed up for hydrocodone. I have a prescription for from a dentist. I wasn't suppose to get filled a year ago but nurse said don't do again. She asked me if it helped.
Avatar n tn If I remember properly there are only between 8 and 12 milligrams of codeine per pill. A standard tylenol #3 contains 30mg of codeine. You are most likely way too anxious......but have some immodium on hand for loose stools........and emetrol for nausea.......look in medhelp's search engine for The Thomas Recipe and the Amino Acid Protocols.....and read them......keep posting with questions and for support......
5141762 tn?1364220967 Can you take codeine ?
1038815 tn?1253268557 How long does it take to get Codeine out of your system if you go cold turkey?
Avatar m tn m not taking codeine, though, but am taking Percocet, Opana ER, Lorzone, diazepam, Lyrica, & occasionally a Lidoderm patch. This same thing happened to me about a year & a half ago, at a different doc's office, was using a different pharmacy at the time.... I don't understand. How can this be? Could one of my prescribed meds do this, & if so, I'm like you all... why doesn't my doc know that? Thanks for any help! L.
Avatar m tn Hey gang.......today is day 22 off of Percocet, I am about to go to the doctor, I have no desire to get anything narcotic for my pain(herniated discs w/ nerve impingement)........can anyone recommend any non-narcotic/non-habit forming pain medication? I do not want to go through w/d's again......I learned first-hand that taking percocet, as directed for over a year(7.5/325 every 4 hours)can still get you addicted even if you're not abusing it .
Avatar f tn The historical use is more of a problem than the codeine - the codeine is one of the easiest narc's to w/d from and one of the harder to acquire a strong habit for - this is compared to oxy's, heroin, methadone and the whole list......its still no fun....but it is one of the easier to quit - taper as far as possible as circumstances permit...then treat it just as any other w/d (Thomas Recipe, Amino Acid Protocol) and it can be resolved.
Avatar n tn Why is it that a Doc. can call in a refill for an hydocodone or codeine script. And cannot call in one for percadan/oxycodone ?
