Common Questions and Answers about Percocet substitute

percocet

I've been sniffing percocets 10's(the yellow ones) for a little over a year. At first it was not a regular thing at all, maybe once a week if that. Within the last six months I have became extremely dependent on percocets. Im sniffing about up to 10 a week. I ran out on wed. and found a substitute excederin but cant sniff it because one its not suppose to be sniffed but it hurts when i do. The last couple nights I have been completely unable to sleep.
10mg per day of Oxy (at night) and about 20mg of Percocet per day. I didn't taper at all, just quit it last Friday afternoon. After this experience, I really wished I had tapered down even just a bit to maybe 10-15 mg per day then the gone off. Who knows. Thanks for your support.
The last time we went, he gave him a script for straight codeine 30 mg and the idea was to gardually reduce them over three weeks. It didn't work and he used T-1's all along. He now says he wants to go back to percocet telling me he has a better time coming off them than T-1's. I am really scepticle. Has anyone heard or had a similar experience? Should I believe him? The doctor is very willing to help so he may oblige him.
Steve, What are the things an opiate addict should be telling the doctor or oral surgeon if surgery is needed ? What substitutes should be used for the anesthesia and also prescribed for the next few days of pain? My daughter must have her wisdom teeth removed after she comes home from rehab and I am worried sick. How about other more major surgeries later on ?
I've been doing some thinking lately and I'm trying to get some perspectives on substitute drugs and maitenence programs like suboxone and methadone. It's been a hot button topic on this forum and I think it would be beneficial to have all points of view and experiences shared in one place so others can view a good source of information. Many of you know my story, I was taking about 400mg of oxycodone a day when I quit.
Please do not try to taper the dose of Percocet on your own as it contains an opioid oxycodone. The tapering of Percocet follows the oxycodone dose tapering schedule. Of the many ways to taper, one way is 25% reduction in oxycodone dose each week, keeping acetaminophen dose in the combination as same. This means you need to reduce by 2.5mg every week (10mg to 7.5 mg to 5 mg to 2.5 mg).
Hi, I am running out of my percocet script early, is it ok to take tramadol in between to try and extend the few percocets I have? I cannot do withdrawel right now. I need something to stretch the Percocets out for about 5 days until my next script is ready. I use my meds for pain, but I ALWAYS run out about 4 days early. I am currently not using tramadol, but I have some, will they be an ok substitute for a week or so? Or will I still get W/D? Thank you, and God Bless Us all!
ive been on percocet since march, off and on, i am having a hard time getting off them and staying off them, right now i am having some weird side effects that are not listed like waking up stiff and swollen and really sore hot achy, then i take 2 i feel a little better then 4 hours later i take 2 again then i feel better, im up to taking 8 a day. i need help and advice, can i die? how can i get through the withdrawls without problems? I have tramadol and flexeril to help is that good?
It's easier to get off other opiates than it is Methadone, so can you replace it with percocets or anything else and then kick that habit? I know it would be accompanied by withdrawal, but not as severe as cold turkey.
I have been prescribed percocet to maintain my arthritis pain and I am only 6 weeks pregnant. Is this really safe? The prescription says 1-2, 3 times daily. I have been talking 2-3 in a 24 hour period. I am assuming less is better in this case?
I have neuropothy which is under control with minimal amounts of Norco and methadone ( not a user just no insurance and its cheap). I am having kidney stones and the doctor put me on Percocet and told me to stop the Norco..Is Percocet stronger than Norco? The stones are killing me.

percocet is equally as addictive. you will just become addicted to that, if not worse. so, if what you are asking will it help you detox? no it will keep you addicted. oxycodone, hydrocodone. structurally different, both opoids.
I dont know anything about Sub, but percocet from what ive gathered is hydrocodone..lots of people here know alot, just hang in there, they will help you okay?
I have been on 7.5/500 Hydrocodone (Percocet) daily 1-2 every 4-6 for pain for the last three three months and been averaging 8-10 per day, and was on 10/7.5 Lortab 1 every 6 for pain on and off for a couple of years, but on them regularly (daily) for the last six months and averaged 10-12 per day. I have spent a lot of time reading other peoples Q & A's the last few days and it's been helpful. I drink a lot on them as well and I know it's killer on the liver.
Her drugs of choice was percocet and cocaine, and a snorted version of heroin, called train. During pregnancy however, she used only used percocet to substitute, but lots of it. The little girl lately keeps telling me that she her head is confused. She also says the the machines in her head are really loud. She sometimes, very rarely says her head hurts. But it doesnt hinder her play at all. So I dont suspect migraine.
Hi There.. I am getting ready to start to taper off percocet. I have been taking them for about 6-7 mos and I am now up to approx 7-8 5mg a day. I have seen two "detox" physicians and they both offered the same thing..suboxone. I don't want to substitute another drug (possibly more powerful and addicting) for the percocet. Then I have to worry about getting off of that next!
It started with lortab 5mg a few times a day... Then after a few surgeries later I was prescribed to lortab 7.5 and Percocet 7.5 for the pain. I am about 8 weeks out of surgery, and the dr. Is still prescribing me these meds. Tomorrow will be day 2 without anything. I have asked my boyfriend to hide them from me, because I know that I was getting out of control, and could not believe how many prescriptions these dr. Keep giving me.
I HAVE BEEN TAKING PERCOCET FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW, EVERYDAY! IT STARTED FOR BACK PROBLEMS AND THE AMT. I WAS TAKING WAS OKAY IN THE BEGINNING, THEN I STARTED TAKING MORE AND MORE THAN I SHOULD. IT IS NOW TO THE POINT WHEN I DON'T HAVE ANY LEFT, I AM RUNNING AROUND WORRYING ABOUT WHERE I CAN GET MORE, I AM EVEN GOING IN DEBT FROM BUYING THEM OFF THE STREET. I AM SCARED AND DON'T WANT TO BE IN PAIN ALWAYS, BUT, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO COME OFF THEM WITHOUT HAVING HEART FAILURE OR WHATEVER.
DO I REPLACE THE TRAMADOL FOR THE PERCS. DO I SUBSTITUTE BACK AND FORTH. IVE SEEN YOUR POSTS AND YOU SAID YOU TAPER PEOPLE OFF OF OPIATES WITH TRAMADOL. PLEASE TELL ME HOW SO I HAVE AN IDEA. WHEN I FIRST READ THE PAPER THAT CAME WITH THE TRAMADOL RX IT SAID IT MIGHT CAUSE WDS IF YOU ARE TAKING ANOTHER OPIATE. SORT OF SCARED ME. IVE HAD THEM FOR TWO DAYS NOW AND HAVENT TAKEN ANY BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THEM. MY DR. SAID IF IT DIDNT WORK WE WOULD CROSS THAT BRIDGE WHEN IT CAME.
Proposed Tylenol restrictions worry patients FDA is considering reduced maximum dose, ban on Vicodin and Percocet WASHINGTON - Proposed limits on Tylenol, a painkiller as common as pain itself, have left many consumers fearful, confused and wondering where to turn for relief. The potential government crackdown on acetaminophen, Tylenol's main ingredient, would affect everyone from occasional pill poppers to chronic pain sufferers who rely on daily doses to make their lives more bearable.
Hi All, I have been reading the posts on here for some time and decided that I would finally ask a question of my own because you all seem so helpful. I have been addicted to percocet for 3 years. I was given them for migraines and kidney stones and the doctor has kept me on them for my migraines. I told her that I want to come off of them and tought I could taper but realized I am not strong willed enough. She gave me 90 tramadol (50mg) and said that would relieve the withdrawal symptoms.
Anyway, after those three months I was fine. I don't know and cant remember why I started again. But I did. And continued taking any type of narcotic pill/liquid I could get ahold of, my favorite being Hydro syrup. Although I rarely got ahold of it, I was on "cloud 9" everytime I did. But, my addiction rests solely in hydrocodone. All the rest being substitutes, even OC's. I couldn't see myself getting addicted to OC's, or anything but vicodin, for that matter.
I was prescribed percocets (5/325) about 1 1/2 years ago for chronic back pain (scoliosis mainly). I took them as prescribed for a while and then started increasing the dosage until I was taking upwards of 14 a day (I could take 8 per my script). I decided about a week ago to stop. I tapered down to 8 a day, I guess that's not great but I just can't have them around me without taking them. I have been without for 36 hours and of course I feel like hell in a hand basket.
My father,77,b/l AKA with four compression fractures in his back been using percocet 10/325mg for years and is not getting any relief from this pain medication with recent compression fractures (4). Allergic to morphine..please help with other pain medication options to suggest to family dr. to try to improve his pain control. Spends 24/7 in bed since fractures and does not want to move due to increase in the back pain.
Since I have only 2 percocets left I 'm very concerned because I take them at night. Could I substitute one 5 mg/325mg vicoden for the percocet when the percocet are depleted?
Acting thank you very much for all of the information, I have looked everywhere trying to figure out what effects C/T would have on the baby and havent found anything. As for the methadone and subutex I really didnt wanna substitute another drug for the percocet I would really rather taper. Is it the physical withdrawal symptoms that are harmful to baby? What if I stop and feel no physical symptoms?
I have been on opiates for one reason or another for approx 13yrs, and most recently percocet every day for over 3 years, and today I meet with my spine doc to ask him to wean me off of these suckers... I have no clue yet how I'll deal with the daily pain, but the Laws are changing in my State on Jan 1, so I'll have to start going to a Pain Management Clinic$$ (I lost my job, and my Cobra has run out, so NO Health Insurance)...
Was taking about 6-9 Percocet a day after surgery and then started getting them from friends because being a single mother of two special needs boys it just eased the stress in the evening from working all day and dealing with other issues. This then became a ritual every night at 7 pm. Of course started with one, then two and as you all know the rest of the story it got up to 8. Then a sleeping pill to fall asleep. Then I finally realized I cannot do this anymore.
