Is it possible for a ten year old to have shingles without a rash??? He has been unwell for nearly a month now, but has had extremely sore neck front and back, chest and shoulders for about 2weeks. We have had two lots of blood tests all coming back normal. He is in excruiating pain mainly in the evening, he cant even stand water falling on his neck when having a shower and he definately wont let me touch it. He cries himself to sleep because he is in so much pain...
I have had shingles at least 2 times. My regular doctor diagnosed me the first time and my dermatologist the second time. Unless you have ever had shingles the pain is almost impossible to describe. I took Valtrex both times and percocet and vicidon. The first time I had shingles was the worst. I had the rash that started on my spine and followed the nerve. I could not stand for anything to touch the area...not the rash as much as the area around the rash...I missed 3 weeks of work.
I was diagnosed with shingles in the left ear on Monday. I have been put on percocet for the pain and valtrex for the virus. I have yet to see a rash. I have been in excruciating pain since monday and it didn't stay in just the ear. The pain is behind my left eye left ear down my neck in my left shoulder and down my left arm. Today the pain isn't as bad as it has been but I itch and itch all over on the left side of my face and head. Its like a burning itch.
You would need lumber, sheet rock, shingles, and etc for the major supplies…these are the equivalent of the bodies need for protein, carbohydrates, and fats. How would you hold everything together?…nuts and bolts, nails, and screws—these are the equivalent of the bodies need for vitamins and minerals.

Look, I am taking Opana ER, Percocet, and Lyrica for pain and that doesnt include all the other meds for all the other symptoms... It is alot and I dont take it lightly. I take it to try and survive this ****. Dont let the non-understanding people make you feel guilty or bad about taking the meds that YOU think you need. Nobody else is in your body but YOU!
If you read on the forum about Shingles without the rash, you will find that you can have a debilitating pain running along a nerve for years... shingles. You might want to have your doctor check you for shingles and perhaps try an antiviral med. to see if it takes some of the pain away. Not saying you have shingles, could be neuralgia (Gabapentin works on that or Lyrica). Only thing I know helps shingles is the antiviral. Hope this information is helpful.
Hey Rena - It sounds to me like shingles. Do not be fooled, you DO NOT have to have the actual rash to have shingles. Hallmarks of shingles are severe pain and the area to remain on one side (if you said it hurt on BOTH shoulders, it would not be shingles - the virus never crosses the midline). Picture your innerbody as a tree with branches outstretching. These brances are nerve endings. When shingles occurs, it affects say, one tree limb, and all the branches off of that limb.
Perscribed Percocet (only drug that works) Went back to Dr about 3 days later, suggested might have rashless shingles, Dr agreed & prescribed Acyclovir. 12 pills a day for 7 days.
So he gave me zoiverex (oral) and percocet for pain. By Sunday 2/13/2011 I had a terrible rash on my torso, called the Dr. and he said it was an allergic reaction. I had taken the same meds before so why am I allergic.
I have been bouncing between Percocet and Vicodin for years. My doctor wants me to wean off of the Vicodin, but there is no backup plan (I am taking Gabapentin, but it doesn't cut through the pain). We're stuck. And I’m scared. She recommended that I reach out to other resources. Could I have had shingles with a rash, no lesions, that lasted 5 years and pain for 8 years? Is there a way to determine if that is the case? I'm absolutely at the end of my rope.
I'm allergic to meds such as acyclovir which is for shingles, bactrim, sustiva, atripla. I don't take any pain meds at all for anything. My liver was failing because of medications for HIV and anti depressants at the time of the biopsy. Is it possible that because of the liver failure the drugs weren't metabolized at all?
Do you think it's some kind of inflamation? Could I take ibuprofin with the percocet? I have a physical therapy appt. for my ribs in a few days, and a doctor appt. in a couple weeks.
Referred to neurologist who states I have neuralgia, usually associated with shingles - never had shingles. Currently taking Prempro, Protonix, Vioxx, Trileptal, Flexeril, Percocet, Actiq & using Lioderm patches. Never know when attack of pain will manifest itself or how severe. Pain can be totally debilitating and at times would be willing to donate left breast to anyone willing to take it. Never experiences such pain in my life.
I hope you can find something to helps. My son had shingles at age 11 and it was really hard for him and us to watch him hurt. If you have not been given other options, perhaps a new doc is in order.
Isn't shingles nerve pain? I am not a doctor by any means but search this site for shingles and you will get some insight. I was thinking Lyrica or something like that. Maybe I am totally off base. Medhelp search is your friend as well as Google itself.
Well, they gave me more pain meds, stronger this time because vicoden wasn't working anymore. Thank god for Percocet. Got a scrip for Percocet and steroids plus Amoxocillen. Been taking them for two weeks. Things felt better for about 10 days. But as soon as I ran out of steroids and pain meds the pain started to come back. While finishing the antibiotic the pain on the right side came back and stayed. It has been constant.

3 pills for 3days, 2 pills for 3days, 1 pill for 3days), and Acyclovir 800mg (1 tab, 5 times per day, for 7 days). I am having a couple of skin reactions above and beyond the shingles "pox." First, I am developing little pin point spots of blood showing up all over my body (not in the Pox areas). They are tiny, pore sized, blood blisters(?) the size of a pin *****. They are smooth, plump, not itchy, bright red when they appear, fading to dark red over days.
My husband is in his early 30's, and was diagnosed with Shingles in Novmber of 2002. It was located on his head and did get into his left eye. After the initial outbreak, he was still suffering from post-herpetic neuralgia. A few weeks ago, he was given Tegretol in an effort to get him off Percocet, which he's been on since November. After about 2 weeks of the Tegretol, the dose increased to 1000mg per day. The very next day after the first 1000mg day, he awoke with itchy ears.
I had the shingles a year ago but it started out with a rash. Anyway he sent me home with oral zovirex and percocet for the pain. By Sunday 2/13/11 I had a rash all over my torso, it was warm to the touch. Called the Dr. and he said it was probably a reaction to the meds. I had taken these same meds before so I didn't understand, by Wednesday 2/15/11 I couldn't even sit up, Mmy whole body ached and I had chills and fever for the next 3 days.
You should be on some kind of long term patch such as Fentanyl which continues to give good pain relief for three days then change to new one as well as short term such as Percocet for break through pain for when you have done things that cause more pain than the patch will not help totally. There is also Facet joint denervation that can be done to control pain.
My name is Brenda and I have been on Suboxone for about 8 months now for an addiction to percocet. I just went to my ortho doc and he prescribed me tramadol for bursitis. I dont know if I can mix the 2 sub and tram and I not sure if I should even start taking them to begin with. Can anyone give me some advice about what I should do?
I keep asking myself why didn't I listen. I also wish I hadn't had given away the bottle of percocet I had before I left for the states because thy worked getting me off the Norco's, but I didn't feel I needed anything. The old pain from a terrible surgery I had in 97 was gone.It didn't take long using them plus evryday unlike here I was always walking or riding just busy all thetime with my friends and my little explorations. Everyday was a new adenture.

Botox is often used to treat migraines, and is now being used in treating things like post-shingles pain and more. And for most people, pain management will not eliminate your pain, just help control it. In the past 5.5 years I have tried countless procedures and most drugs, including most narcotics. I was on a tremendous amount of medication and it just couldn't control my pain.

I stopped taking 300 to 500mg of morphine combined with 8 to12 10/325 percocet last sunday. and I have actually survived! This has impressed me more than anything I have done, EVER! I have had chronic migraine since I was 11 yrs old (I'm 32) and ridiculously painful attacks of optic neuritis at least once a year since then. (optic neuritis involve losing vision completely in 1 eye for about 6 months and is soo painful!) I actually wanted to die just this morning! Morning 6 was the worst for me.
