Percocet for arthritis pain

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet for arthritis pain

percocet

Avatar f tn s effective for me may not be for you and visa verse. If your pain is extreme enough to warrant opiates (and I assume it is) then discuss this with your PMP. Short acting oxycodone (Percocet) has never been as effective on my particular pain as hydrocodone. It doesn't make sense I know...but it's a fact. Why a lesser opiate is more beneficial then a stronger one does not make a lot of sense. I simply am proof that different meds work differently on different ppl.
Avatar f tn ve figured out is if you have a good dr that understands the meds like I do they will switch it up once you build a tolerance. ie. Percocet for 3-6 months then switch to morphine for 3-6months so that your body doesn't get used to the meds. Just something I've learned over the years. I don't respond to NSAID's at all, even before I got sick it had to take prescribed medications for migraines etc. (not always narcotic meds just saying that..
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear of the uncontrolled pain that you have experiencing. I have been there but now I have control over my pain. I am not pain free and still have flare ups but my life is no longer in bondage to pain. My pain regimen includes the Fentanyl patch which I wear for 48 hours along with oxycodone IR for breakthrough pain. I also take Gabapentin, a muscle relaxer, valium, an anti-depressant, and OTC Aleve.
Avatar n tn Thanks, I guess he's going to see his local dr. this week and explain the situation, I know he'll make it so that he gets the Tramadol which quite frankly if it works for him and he's not in pain and not a jerk then fine! Right now, he's taking Percocet but not the Flexeril or Naproxen nor Tramadol (until he gets more).
Avatar f tn Just after finding this out my pain doc switched me to butrans (I began at 5mg then went to 20mg) with percocet 7.5/325 for breakthrough pain. (60 pills a month so in theory 2 a day as necessary) And once again I have a new doctor who admittedly (and I'm fine with) very drug restrictive. He found out I took morphine 2x last month (they had been previously presacribed before Butrans) and went through the roof and I don't want to OD or do anything stupid.
Avatar m tn Hi I was just looking for everyone's personal opinion regarding my history of pain and narcotic meds. My pain is from DDD, arthritis in my back L4-L5, S1, sciatica left leg and also severe arthritis in my knees and I had to retire early as a Firefighter of 22 years. 10 years ago started on Tylenol 3 and slowly went to Percocet, OxyContin then to morphine MS Contin and statex to dilauded and hydro morphing ER to back to oxycodone and now on fentanyl 37 mcg.
527890 tn?1263783127 Truvada (HIV meds), Marinol (appetite), Valium (stress from the pain), and Percocet (started for peripheral neuropathy). My percocet use over the past few years has dramatically increased due to the non specific body pain I feel in most of my major joint areas, including in order of pain are: back, neck, knees, shoulders, hips, hands, feet over the past few years. Pain is soothed with heating pad, but at time it feels like I am being stabbed especially in behind my knees.
Avatar f tn Arent they the same thing? Why would I be having withdrawels? I take the meds for real pain, and ran out of the percocet, because I try not to take as much oxycontin, becuase it makes me tired and gives me a headache. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I will live with pain for the rest of my life. I was prescribed oxyxontin 40mg 3 times a day plus 10mg Percocet for breakthrough pain. After my botched hip replacement (at age 51) I was searching for a magic cure and was willing to take the pain killers. When I realized this would be forever I wanted to stop the opiates. My doctor gave me a slow withdrawal - every week I went to a lower dose 2 times a day. But when I got to 10mg the schedule was 10mg once a day. Huh?
Avatar f tn an opiate is not the main medication for treatment. Most patients are on a nerve pain medication like Lyrica, Neurontin, or Cymbalta. These target specific nerve pain which is your main source of pain with the herniated discs and sciatic nerve pain. An opiate does not work well for this. Same thing with having a muscle relaxer to take as needed. Flexeril, Skelaxin, Robaxin, Baclofen, or Zanaflex. This is very useful for those times with bad muscle spasms... Again...
Avatar m tn ve done the research on oxycontin as requested and can see that they most likely are worrying about the dose of tylenol for so long. I do want to decrease pain meds and am worried about addiction. This percocet rx has been ongoing for at least 3-4 years on an increasing dose basis. I have a connective tissue disorder as well as an inflammatory arthritis - various tendon tears/problems, 3 broken metatarsals, back and joint surgeries, etc.
Avatar f tn But even percodan and percocet have apap and aspirin in them. But I did need pain relief. So my md wrote for a drug called OPANA its oxymorphone. It is a schedule 2 so most doc's don't want to write for it. But it has nothing else in it. As a pharmacist myself I felt safest taking that. Alittle tylenol is ok but I would have been taking 3 to 4 grams of it and that bad. Mention it to your md, see what he says.
Avatar m tn I Have been on percocet 5g tab 6-8 per day, have prescri[tion eery 2 wks for 90few months ago i had oral surgery on 3 teeh i to the dentist i was on perccet for back pain bu gave me a script for 15 vicodins, i had no clue when i filled the viciodin was doing anything wrong...nowmy primary dr cant fill my regular percocet...i have appt nxt week hoping he understands or refers me to another dr...he has been prescribing meds for 2yrs never failed drug test or miss appt..
Avatar m tn Hi I have this constant back pain that the pain dr can't figure out. I have tried everything nerve blocks, cortisone shots, creams, tens machine, physical therapy you name it I've tried it. The only thing that seems to work is Percocet. A few months ago the dr said she seems to think the pain is in so many words "in my head" she seems to think the Percocet is causing me to think I am in pain. She started tapering me down from 3 325mg/5mg a day to 1 a day.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to MedHelp. I also take percocet along with neurontin (gabapentin). The gabapentin is very similar to lyrica. I drink coffee 4-5 days per week and I haven't encountered any issues and I have been on percocet for almost a year and gabapentin for almost 2 years. I don't think there are any severe reactions when coffee is mixed with percocet or lyrica or both.
Avatar n tn I have been reading many of the posts here and feeling so scared about the dreadful withdrawal and suffering that goes on. I have a chronic pain condition and have been taking percocet for 1.5 years, I know I already have a dependency as I feel the withdrawal symptoms when I do not take it. I have just started lyrica and hope that it decreases my pain to the point that I can get off the percocet entirely.
Avatar f tn I have had back pain for over 10 years, being diagnosed with degenerative arthritis. The only treatment that is available are nerve blocks and percocet. I need a cure. If any doctor has a new procedure or theory, I need it. Please help me. I don't care if it is controversial, I just want my life back. Pain numbers are not a solution but a mediocre bandaid. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I have been on the smallest dosage pill (oxecodone) for over 3 years now for arthritis in my feet. Currently I get 100 every other month or so. The Dr says he has patients that take as many as 6 per day. I have taken 8 in a day but I can go days without any if I stay off my feet and have no withdrawal. Am I addicted? I am afraid of them but my feet hurt so bad.
Avatar n tn I've been in severe pain for 15 years, and it keeps getting worse. My doctor put me on Hydrocodone 10/660 about 10 years ago, and it has worked wonders and kept my pain level down to a 2 (scale 1-10). Now, I'm told she can't prescribe it for me anymore, and has cut me back to 10-335. I feel like I've gone backwards in time. I'm back to soaking me feet in ice water, and coating my feet with Capazation, just for a little bit of temporary relief.
1448748 tn?1312956208 The surgery was the first thing I have ever had to have pain medicine for sure for. I could not do it. Now that I am home I take Oxycodone for pain and Baclofen for my muscle relaxer. The muscle relaxer is really the one that makes the difference. That is where my pain is coming from but I can only take it every 8 hours. I would discuss your options prior if you can. I would not recommend morphine but that was based on my experience and everyone is different.
Avatar f tn I have recently detoxed from Percocet and codeine and feel like I have no options for pain control now. I have rheumatoid arthritis and as a result of this have a torn Tfcc ligament that now requires surgery. My doctors do not want to treat me for pain because of my addiction so I'm looking up solutions myself. My question is can someone with opiate dependence take the fentanyl patch? Has anyone been in this situation!
Avatar f tn my doctor is sending me to a pain mgmt dr. & an arthritis dr. due to me having gouty arthritis. i have had 3 surgeries in the past 4 yrs due to fractures in my feet from gout attacks. i have been on either vicodin or rarely percocet for 4 years @ 10-10mgs a day. im prescribed 4 a day, so am always running out. like NOW i just took my last 10mg until 4 days from now when i get my script. the dr. knows they are no longer working thats why hes refering me to pain mgmt.
Avatar f tn I take Percocet, Soma, Valium, and Phenagran to help me not get sick taking meds cause I get sick at my stomach with the Percocet. Or any other pain killer for that matter. I do have a tens unit at home and it helps. I got Dr. to write prescription to therapy so I could have one at home. Maybe that would help you. He only had me go to therapy to get the unit through them then he told me I could stop going.
