Avatar f tn i am currently 30 wks pregnant and have had a lot of pain during this pregnancy. this is my 3rd child. when i was pregnant with my 2nd i had to be on percocet the entire pregnancy. i discussed this with my dr. and asked for something for the pain and he gave me a prescription for vicodin. after he gave me the medication he told me that the hospital drug tests all newborns and that if the baby had narcotics in his system that children services will be called on me. how true is this?
Avatar f tn Acetaminophen-oxycodone has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Acetaminophen is routinely used for short-term pain relief and fever in all stages of pregnancy. Acetaminophen is believed to be safe in pregnancy when used intermittently for short durations. Use of narcotic analgesics in late pregnancy is associated with the risk of neonatal withdrawal. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I get extremely annoyed when people say your supposed to suffer throughout an entire pregnancy. Please do not take this as a go ahead to abuse percocet during pregnancy. No one knows the risks of taking anything during pregnancy. With that being said, you need to be honest with your doctor and with yourself. Being addicted but not by choice really isn't a great excuse to use while pregnant. You really need to sit down and assess the situation, and figure out what you need to do.
Avatar f tn Hi! Percocet does not have any long term effects on fertility and doesn't cause any damage to your eggs. If you have been taking it for years though, it may be rather difficult to stop! You might want to consult a doctor who prescribe Suboxone. It IS important to wean off the Percocet before getting pregnant because the baby will be born addicted and will go through withdrawl if you continue to take it during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Now that you are pregnant you must know that you will be sharing everything with your baby. When you smoke during pregnancy harmful things from the smoke , like carbon monoxide absorb into your bloodstream. This causes less oxygen for the baby. Which is essential. This makes breathing a lot more difficult for your baby, his/her lungs, and heart have to work a lot harder. Smoking can bring on Miscarriage Or prematurely with a low birth weight.
Avatar f tn i know that its ok while breastfeeding so i would say ok during pregnancy. just take only when you need it...at least thats what i would do. good luck!
1535595 tn?1317990033 I can tell you though, that there are many women who require pain medication such as percocet during pregnancy. When taken under a Dr.'s care there is almost always a good outcome. It's when drugs are abused or inproperly used that the problem can begin. When the Dr. and delivering hospital knows, there are steps they can take to help the baby adjust when born. That way women like Brigadiva have healthy and undamaged children. Just make sure you are working with your Dr.
Avatar m tn How long would a newborn have needed to be exposed to percocet during a pregnancy to cause withdrawals after birth? I have a family member who swears up and down she only took the small amount that was prescribed to her for back pain in the last few weeks of her pregnancy. There has been a lot of suspicion about what was really going on with her throughout the pregnancy and she was known to take opiods before getting pregnant. Now the baby has been born and is experiencing withdrawals.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy Category C Animal reproductive studies have not been conducted with PERCOCET. It is also not known whether PERCOCET can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproductive capacity. PERCOCET should not be given to a pregnant woman unless in the judgment of the physician, the potential benefits outweigh the possible hazards. Nonteratogenic Effects Opioids can cross the placental barrier and have the potential to cause neonatal respiratory depression.
Avatar f tn My baby doctor has been prescribing me Hydrocondone for pain during this pregnancy and I was just wondering if anyone else has been prescribed it and if their babies were okay?
1565432 tn?1295252598 After reading all the post about pregnancy and percocet,I am scared sh**less,I've read that u can't take them during ur first trimester but u can during ur second? Why is that? my ob knows I'm taking them but I'm still worried.
Avatar m tn You are correct in that it is dangerous to quit cold turkey during a pregnancy. Tapering and withdrawing needs to be done correctly under medical supervision. Also, many women need to take various meds to manage pain (and other conditions) during pregnancy. I would try to find someone who will work with you. You certainly can't go around in pain all the time.
Avatar f tn If you are taking Percocet for pain, take Tylenol instead, but no more than directed. Make sure that your OB/GYN is aware that you have been taking Percocet during pregnancy; baby may need extra attention after birth. But if you wean yourself early enough before delivery everything should be fine, just don't do it abruptly. If your pain is not controlled with Tylenol, please talk to your physician and your OB to see what your options are.
Avatar n tn Or they may have been taking more than prescribed and just not told anyone. You never know. My sister was prescribed percocet during her pregnancy for a wisdom tooth that was removed. She gave birth to a healthy boy who is nine years old now. Trust your doctor and relay your concerns to him. Other than that, don't worry about it.
Avatar f tn Hydrocodone and percocet are the same thing. Percocet is just stronger. The only worry they have with either of those drugs during pregnancy is that baby will have withdrawals when born. But if the benefits outweigh the risk then I wouldn't be worried.
Avatar f tn we both agreed to discontinue treatment during my pregnancy. Everything was fine until about 34 weeks pregnant, when I slipped & fell down about 8 stairs at work. My back was in excruciating pain so without asking my pain Dr or my obgyn I just started taking my leftover percocet prescription. I did some research first to make sure this wasn't going to harm the fetus. But now I'm past 38 weeks and I fear the baby may test positive for opiates & cps may be called.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
Avatar n tn Percocet is safer during pregnancy. You may want to consider switching to percocet. Also, drink lots and lots of water. This will help you pass the stone sooner and prevent future stones.
Avatar n tn In fact, I know many many women on this site who have had to take painkillers during pregnancy (many for the entire pregnancy!) and none of them have had issues with a newborn going through withdrawals, so I think the odds are in your favor. Talk to your doctor about your concerns; they are ALWAYS your best resource :-).
Avatar f tn As long as you are open and honest with your OB about your medicine, you will not be in trouble. I had to take pain meds during both pregnancies ( i had kidney stones with my daughter and ended up having surgery at 34wks, and with my sonI had a weird neurological reaction to the pregnancy that ended up with me blind and numb in parts of my body but with horrific headaches). both of my children were both VERY healthy and without any sort of withdrawal/addiction issues.
Avatar f tn My husband and i have recently decided to try and get pregnant and were both very excited however i had hip surgery a year ago and because of this i have extremely bad back pain and take percocet because of it, is it safe to take percocet while trying to conceive, and will it lessen my chances?
Avatar f tn Anyone have experience taking this during pregnancy? It was prescribed by my Ob for my cracked tooth. It hurts!
Avatar f tn Why wouldn't you stop taking them? I'm sure your baby will be fine. Bad things only happen to good people who don't take drugs during their pregnancy. I may get kicked off of this forum for that statement but its true. Some people do everything the right way and get crapped on. Then you have people who take drugs or drink or don't take care of themselves and their babies are perfectly healthy.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Flexaril and Perococet (amongst many other medications) during both of my previous pregnancies and Percocet and other pain meds during this one, due to kidney problems. Both of my children are perfectly beautiful and healthy and there is every indication that my unborn baby is doing great as well. I know it can be a huge worry when you are taking medications during pregnancy, and if you can avoid taking them that is, of course, preferable.
Avatar f tn ) the doctor gave me 5mg percocet for pain as needed and told me it was safe to take as long as it was the recommended dose. Has anyone else taken this while pregnant?
