Percocet and hives

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet and hives

percocet

By the time I got home it was so bad I ripped off my clothes and was covered with hives and welts from head to toe and most of my skin had turned beet red. I itched so bad I had to use a hair brush to scrath with and did that ( while on the phone with my pharmacist to find out what to do and if any contra indications with mmy meds )until I started to bleed it was so bad. The pharmacist said to take 2 benadryl right away and if it did not help go directly to the closet E-ROOM.
Then starting November 14th hives in many places and few days without hives and symptoms, and medications. Hives on arms, trunk including chest and neck, legs, hands, feet, and into my face sometimes. Included were, and are, scary symptoms of lips, eyes, and brow, and nose swelling, and what I call "fuzzy face" or the feeling of cobwebs or hair on my face, sometimes on other parts of my body, too.
I had a c section at 19. I had never required pain meds prior to this. They wanted me to sit up but there was too much pain. I asked for pain relief & was told the shots in my hip were demerol but all that did was bruise & welt me. They gave me a percocet pill, pink, and I was walking around fine and pain free. The demerol did NOT work one IOTA. Now, I'm 49, and need a liver biopsy. A prior liver biopsy was pain free, I got morphine but broke out in hives.
I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
I posted earlier about hives after BA. General Doc gave me low dose (4mg) and one week later shot of prednisone. Some relief, but not total and he believes it could be reaction to BA meds, posion ivy or saline implant allergic reaction. My rash started on day 17, I'm on day 27 now and the rash started on face, stomach, arm, now on chest, stomach (little on top of breasts) and legs. Some sunburned looking areas as well During BA I had pain pump, Z-pac, percocet.
I've been on percocet on and off for a couple of years. It gives me an allergic reaction. I have red spots that itch. I don't get any other symptom of an allergic reaction. I've tried other pain meds but none work as well. If I can deal with the itching and the red blotches, am I in any kind of danger for short term or long term ?
While I was there, they gave me an iv with fluids, 60mg of prednisone, and because my hives were painful and did not itch they gave me 20mg of percocet. With my fever and generally feeling of being out of it, I did not tell them I am a addict, not to mention my husband was there and he doesn't know of the situation. Anyways, I am worried how I will feel tomorrow with the percocet being in my system. Am I going to feel any type of withdrawl? Do I have to start my ticker over?
Vicodin or Percocet or Oxycodone (long acting form is Oxycontin) are not derived from morphine and may be good choices for you and your doctor to consider.
My SI injections have worn off and now my back feels like it wants to break in half. I'm using my Lidocaine patch, now. for how long? Don't know. My knee is still swollen from surgery and the weather isn't helping, much. They tried to give me a pain med after my knee surgery, but I broke out in hives from that, too, so I added Percocet to my can't take list. Had an Arthroscopy done. I'm not doing well.
It was wonderful at relieving the pain but also caused euphoria and extreme hives. Your physicians may be concerned with the euphoria effects considering your past substance abuse issues. So I encourage you to ask your PCP if adding other medications, other than narcotics to your regime may not aid the pain reducing effects. I tired many muscle relaxers before I found the one that worked the best for me. There are also antidepressants that can help treat your pain receptors.
My doctors have tried Topamax, but that severely lowered my platelet and potassium levels, Zomig, Zoloft - caused me to have migraines, Cymbalta, Relpax, Zanaflex, broke out in hives, percocet, dilotid, and many other narcotics. I have many allergies to medications, especially narcotics. I have very little stress in my life and the only time I don't feel the headache is when I am asleep, though It does decrease a little when I am laying down.
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
So far I have the same reaction to vicodin, nucynta, tramadol, vicopreufin, and percocet. What should I do? Is trial the only way to figure out what I can take? I just don't want to have a potentially life threatening reaction one day. What can I take safely? Any suggestions on what my doctor could try next?
I haven't noticed my tongue swelling as mentioned on some websites as a side effect from percocet. I had to renew my thyroid meds, blood pressure meds and percocet meds with my Primary Care Doctor in November and my eye swelling was the only thing evident to him. I also talked to him about my fingers being stiff at that time. (Now in January, 2 months later than November, my fingers are worse.) I went back last week to my doctor because my symptoms are worse.
The skin is closely watched for signs of a reaction, which include swelling and redness. Confirmatory diagnosis is by blood tests (RAST) and drug provocation tests. Advil or ibuprofen belongs to NSAID(non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs)group. If you are allergic to ibuprofen ,chances are that you will be allergic to rest of the drugs in this group like aspirin, mefenamic acid etc.

Also during all of this they had put me on Percocet and I don't handle drugs well then 2 weeks later I had a emergency gallbladder surgery they to put me on Percocet I have been off of Percocet for 8 weeks but I am not any better I have chest pain and my mind is not with it like I could pass out after gallbladder surgery I came off of Percocet rather quickly and the anxiety was to much so they put me on Ativan for 1 week or so then they wanted me to stop taking ativin so they could put me on di
I hope you don't mind. Percocet (short acting) is oxycodone and acetaminophen. OxyContin is long acting oxycodone. As you know Oxycontin is a sustained release that provides a continuous dose over an 8 to 12 hour period. When broken ALL of the opiate floods into your system at one time which obviously exceeds the actual intended dosage. I am not certain on the exact number of mg that one would obtain from a broken tablet. I just know that it is significant.
I also called my pain clinic to tell them that the steriod epideral I had is not working and that it gave me hives on Sunday. They called me back to tell me that the steroid medicine can take up to 7 days and to continue to take my other meds. This is the second time I have had this epideral and it didnt work the first time so they figured they would do it again. The pain during the procedure hurt really bad, and since these two didnt work I will not do another.
Believe it or not, I've had bad reactions to oxycodone, hydrocodone, and darvocet and even percocet. After suffering with the miserable hives for a month, I had cervical disc surgery and the pain doctor put me on either darvocet or percocet and I once again broke out in hives (which was terrible while wearing the hard neck collar for 9 weeks). Now it seems like I'm allergic to almost everything. My primary care doctor is so careful about what he prescribes for me.
In January, I was given hydroxyzine for hives. Normal dosing was 25mg 4 times a day. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine, anxiolytic, sedative, and antiemetic. I can't find any supporting information anywhere saying that it is addicting. I experienced no w/ds of any kind when I finished my prescription. How long has your bf been taking it? Did he just start? Is he taking any other meds with it? (Opiates and alcohol will drastically increase the effect of the drug.
yes, its normal and as time goes on you will get more and more energy. high anxiety is normal too, and that too sill subside. even 4 months out I would unload the dishwasher 1/4 at a time and rest. take it easy on yourself, it will fall into place, I promise.
I took percocet and I had to stop it right away because I'd trouble breathing with it. I seem to be able to tolerate morphine though.
I'm going to call the doctor who did the block and see if he can explain this and see if I can move up the radiofrequency. I spent several hours in the hospital today to get a morphine shot. Thank goodness for morphine. It seems to be one of the only reliable pai killers which helps with this terrible pain. I just want to function normally again, too, so I feel your pain. I tried working regularly as long as I could, but in pain and/or on painkillers, it's so hard.
Hello, From the symptoms it looks like an allergic reaction to the medicines and most likely Percocet may be responsible for this. Please do not take any drug and report to your doctor immediately. You may need to change your medication to other pain killers like NSAID’s. Regarding the small blood spots, it can be due to petechiael spots also. Petichiae are due to minute hemorrhage of blood below the skin. It is one of the findings in many disease conditions and viral infections is one of them.
So I layed off of the antibiotic for 1 day and took the Percocet and DIDN'T get sick. Then I laid off of the Percocet and went back to my NORCO 10/325 (which I checked first with my PM Dr. to get his permission since I'd taken the Hydro since 2003 and KNEW i wouldn't get sick from it) and took the Sulfameth again and AGAIN got sick. So then I tried one more thing, the nest day I stayed off of ALL BT meds and took the Sulfameth and AGAIN got sick.
All the blood tests come back negative or normal except liver functions Due to percocet use in the beginning they said and sed rate is still high.
remember I am in Canada so many medications will differ here I am sure they are 5mg tablets tiny and light blue color, bottle reads OXYCONTIN than beneath OXYDOCDONE .... the percocet I also take is 5/325 and is a white table the size of an adult aspirin. I will be at the pharmacy next week and will question the pham. better...
