Percocet and grapefruit

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet and grapefruit

Once I was up and about today I started having very intense pain on my right side and felt dizzy and weak so hubby took me to the ER. I had another ultrasound which showed that the grapefruit is still on my ovary and is not twisted. I was quite relieved to hear that so now must just wait for my gyno appointment May 15. I hadn't realized how much pain I am having until they gave me a shot of painkiller and took so much of it away.
They used staples to close and my scar healed up well. It is extremely important (and probably even more so in your case) that you get loads of rest and do nothing that involves lifting or twisting for the 6 - 8 weeks afterwards. Good luck with everything.
They only last a few seconds. The build and peak like labor pains. Say I'm in the kitchen and I'll feel it coming on so I have time to brace myself. I'll set down whatever it is i'm holding and get ready. I have to cross my legs, bend my knees, hold on to something, clench my body tight, and try to breathe. Thank God it only lasts a few seconds. My 14 yr. old son witnessed it yesterday and tried to call 911. I kept signaling him not to. I knew it wouldn't last long. My gyno.
You need to avoid foods and drugs that are also blood thinners such as asprin, advil, NSAIDs, Aleve, Orudis, and other pain killers. Only take what your doctor suggests for you to take for pain and nothing else. You need to reduce Vitamin K because it interveres with the absorbtion of Coumadin. Don't eat leafy greens like broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, or spinich, etc. Don't eat liver or other organ meats. Don't take vitamins or herbal supplements without telling your doctor.
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. and I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
and it swell to about 2 sizes of a grapefruit . I was given pain meds in the hospital, and percs when i came home. Though initially after the hospital i refused any more pain meds. After i tried to get up repeatedly to go to the bathroom myself i was unable to due to pain. Well this is tues and the pain has subsided enough to where i dont wanna take anymore medication . Im really pissed off that this happened.
Some medications to not mix well with grapefruit juice and it can affect the levels of meds in your system (either higher or lower). A good site that I use quite often to check for interactions, side effects, things I should avoid while taking a med, etc. - is (of course, use the www. first) - you can enter the name/s of your meds and pull up lots o finformation on them as to what side effects to look out for, foods or other meds to avoid, etc.
A side effect of exercising has been taking less and less percocet for break through pain and less sleep medication. My cholesterol also dropped dramatically. If you can try to see what the patterns are, what makes your pain worse. You can try and predict if the next day your pain will be worse because of something you did the day prior. Some times looking for patterns helps to manage the pain. Not always though, that's the nature of FM.
Is this an effective around the clock pain med? I have had percocet for breakthrough pain years ago and it worked, but never oxycontin. Any first hand expirience or knowledge about this medication anyone has to offer would be appreciated. I would also like to thank everyone for calming my anxiety over the urinalysis issue and the pain that came with it for the past two weeks.
My pain is now managed and I am up and around with oxycontin, percocet, methocarbonal, ativan, trazadone. I only take methocarbonal and ativan when it's real bad.
I have also had 7 surgeries on my spine so I am on oxycontin 40 mg per day and percocet for breakthrough pain. They don't always prescribe that for fibromyalgia but if your FM is that bad some doctors will. I did try Lyrica, way too many side effects and I personally think it won't be used in the long run for FM. Neurtontin is good when you have nerve pain, another one I personally would not take daily or long term due to side effects. I do take Cybalta.
I had surgery to remove a simple fluid filled cyst that was grapefruit sized and my right ovary and tube 3 weeks ago. I was on percocet (oxycodone) for about a month before and since. I just came off and the withdrawal was quite nasty. But, it did definitely help with the pain when I needed it. What does your doctor advise? Are you a candidate for surgery? Does the pill help at all?
I am tapering right now and its hard as hell, because I loved the high and being able to sleep. But I am going to kick this before it gets worse, and if you read some of these stories of how long they took and how much, it will change your way of thinking...KUDO's to this forum, it really helps me stay focused..
Well I've taken both, probably more than anyone every should at one time, trying to ease some of the pain. I've used Tylenol 3's, percocet, and numerous other prescription pain killers, to no avail. The pain numbs a bit, but is always there. Can anyone tell me what the cause of this could be, and if there is help to be had.
I know i have a problem with percocet and want to quit. I worry about my kidneys and liver (which doesn't help the anxiety) and am tired of feeling as though something else is in control of me. Do you have any suggestions how to taper off the percocet? i just want my life back. thanks!
Turns out I had a grapefruit sized ovarian cyst. Thought that was the cause of the pain and the wacky hormones. Well, I bled over the weekend (but barely even enough to come close to a period, much less when I hadn't bled in 2 months) so I went back cuz the pain was really bad. I had to wait THREE hours to be seen because he had to deliver a baby. He had come back after 2 hours, and I spent an hour half undressed on a table in pain.
(neck and shoulders are the worst). I am on cymbalta 30 mg, diclofenac and percocet 4x day. Is there anything else that I can do to help the pain? Will it ever get better or will it continue to get worse? I'm afraid I will end up an invalid, feel pretty close now! Any insight will be greatly appreciated. I guess I still don't understand how this disease works. Thanks for listening.
I lack in consistency of it every day but plan to stay on it during tx. Also for nausea, apricot nectar and coca cola syrup are great. and I do Aloe GEL and flaxseed oil with DHA (helps the brain and eyes) daily and is good for skin, hair. I started milk thistle as soon as I was diagnosed. At 1st bloodwork my VL was 812,000. The trial lady made me go off of them-for trial- and my last VL count is in the 4 millions!? Went up fast? (still learning !
I am also learning that this may have been a mistake, although I haven't seen anything specificially with solu-medrol and grapefruit juice, I know that I cannot take Tegretol with grapefruit juice and there are other medications that shouldn't be taken w/ grapefruit either according to several members here and others that I've spoken with. Thanks all for your comments, hopefully this will all be over soon.
Good Evening Tramadol Warriors! Welcome. Please come on in. You are most welcome to snuggle in and make yourself cozy & comfortable. It can be a rough ride. But better with friends. All are welcome!
There are several medications for FM. I am taking oxycontin and percocet. I've had 7 surgeries on my spine so my pain complicated. But there are many people with FM on the same medication. Are you saying you don't take any medication for pain? I also take a low dose thyroid medication, I met with a doctor years ago and his research showed that women especially even if their blood work came back normal did quite well with low dose thyroid medication if they had fibromyalgia.
Even though it says to stay away from grapefruit and maybe other citrus while on gaba, I also discovered that drinking Squirt and some other popular clear sodas with citrus will greatly interact with gaba and cause a feeling of being slightly drunk (they should mention grapefruit and Squirt on the insert and the neurontin website because people don't think of grapefruit with sodas). I have gained about 15 pounds either from inactivity or gaba or both over the last two years.
At 10pm, the patient must consume 1/2 cup of olive oil, and 2/3 cup of grapefruit juice, then immediately lie down, and if the patient is having problems sleeping, then they must also take 4 capsules of the amino acid L-Ornithine to help with insomnia. Upon waking, the patient must take another dose of epsom salts with water, and then retired back to bed. Two hours later, they must consume the last dose of the epsom salt mixture and this finishes the procedure.
I'm in THAT god awful line for ONE reason to get me through my addiction of taking 15+ Roxy/percocet/Oxycontin A day...Not to Get HIGH?? I WANT to get clean and NEVER look at another pain killer or chase down another drug dealer EVER again, but the majority of the people in line are telling the new people "This is what you say when you get to the window or this is what you need to buy at the store it's a cocktail of over the counter meds take it with grapefruit juice combo BLAH BLAH BLAH.
I worked my way down to taking 3 per day, decided i wanted to quit this week, b/c I had 4 days off. Well, i had left, and took 1/2 today, b/c I had to go out and handle some businees , and couldn't have otherwise. But to complicate things, I have a bad sinus infection and can't quit coughing. i felt so achy, when I went to my mother's house tonight, she gave me 2 more. I took a half, then i took another 1/2 about 1 1/2 hours ago. i'm ok now, but i feel like a failure.
I had a laparotomy on June 6 and they removed a grapefruit sized cluster of cysts and my right ovary and tube. From the initial ultrasounds and CT they did not realize it was a cluster. They can never be sure until they take a look. I had a vertical cut because of previous surgeries. They had to spend a lot of time working on excising the pieces from the adhesions inside me. I was in the hospital for 5 days but I have heard that many women are home before then.
Changed drs they said you should only do that a year with the lupron stuff, and upped me to percocet 10....somebody should look into this female stuff more!
I've got arthritis in my hips and can honestly say that narcotics don't help much with bone pain. Naproxen (Aleve) works pretty well at a prescription dose. Ask your doctor about Aleve or any other prescription anti-inflammatories. Cox-II inhibitors like Celebrex are another option, but after all the bad press they received a few years ago your doctor may not even want to entertain them. Worth a discussion anyway.
Since then, Ive been taking perks to cope with the wd's and they only help minimally. I took 2 perks at 2 pm today. and I feel like I am dying and it's only 6 pm.
