541844 tn?1244309824 I doubt CT scan would be indicated for garden variety HCV unless a U/S scan detected an anomaly; at least this was the position of both my treating doctors, Bill
Avatar n tn I saw a clip on the "meg scan" on the Today show. It said it was brand new brain scan that doctor's are using for people with epilepsy. They also mention briefly this technology could be used with kids with autism. I am wondering how this could be benefitial for kids with autism? Also, I wanted to know if there was a meg scan in the Los Angeles area? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Can a doc tell your grade/inflamation from a liver scan or does it have to be a biopsy?
Avatar f tn Who else was really nervous about this scan, mines next week and I'm so worried

Avatar m tn In another study of 1,000 people with hepatitis B, the tool was shown to have an 85 per cent chance of spotting liver cancer at a stage too early to be detected by an ultrasound scan. The finding was published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences two weeks ago. Lo said screenings cost around HK$200 for nose and throat and HK$8000 for liver and he hopes they could be used routinely within three years for the high-risk groups such as those with a family history.
Avatar n tn Hello, Yes, your brain anatomy can be visualized on an MRI scan. A CAT scan can visualize skull fractures, tumors, etc., but an MRI shows your underlying vascular structures of the brain. I, too, have suffered with trigeminal neuralgia, which has been controlled with Neurontin and also steroid injection blocks in head and neck. I hope this has been of some help to you.....Take care.....
Avatar n tn We always say that it the CA125 is not a good diagnositic tool, but a tool best used for someone that has already been diagnosed with the disease and has shown that the CA125 is a good indicator for them. Rising levels is most likely not a good sign. Chances are your mother will need to go back on Chemo. It is not the number but the pattern in the rise of the number that makes the difference. Good luck and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn She zoned in on a mole on my left arm. She left the room and returned with a hand held tool that reminded me of a microscope. Once she examined it with the tool, she told me she wanted to do a punch biopsy. Would someone be able to tell me the tool that she used to look at the mole closely? Thanks!
Avatar f tn For the Techies in our forum, while looking for info for our friend trying to find out if his lesion could double (they can in the first year), I stumbled onto this MS Lesion Tool which can be downloaded on either PC or MAC, it appears that you need to be able to operate the one for Apple that someone else recommended, at least knowing how to do that. It has a 30 day free trial which is probably all we need, and can be found at xinapse.com, its called JimVersion 6.
Avatar f tn I forgot to mention.....besides the Bone Marrow Scan, the Dr. wants a Chest Xray too. What does a Chest Xray have anything to do with Shoulder Pain? And would these two additional tests show anything more than the Shoulder Xray and MRI????? Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to understand all this and especially a Chest Xray that dosen't seem like it should be associated with Shoulder Pain.
Avatar m tn No blood to my knowledge. Just the occasional pain, gas and rumbling intestines. Had a cat scan done and it was clear, but have a few questions: 1. Dr. mentioned a little scarring on one of my lungs and asked if I had any upper respitory infections lately. I can't recall anything more than a touch of a cold or allergies. Since he said nothing else, should I be concerned at all? 2. I know the colonoscopy is my next step, but how good is the CT scan in seeing anything in the colon?
Avatar f tn It was recommended that I have a nuclear scan performed to see if the lesions are malignant or not. The largest is 1 cm, I believe. My blood tests are otherwise normal, though in the past (age 15-17) I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on Synthroid for about a year. I also had PCOS when I was a teenager, but I'm doing fine now that I'm on low-hormone birth control (I'm 30, been taking the pill since I was about 23).
Avatar f tn So heres my scan of my brain, ans according to a few friends i have on instagram that also have chiari they think i have a herniation on my cerebellum. Im just searching for some answers and I refuse to believe that im "normal" since i know with the symptoms i have Im not.. I appreciate all answers and inputs!!! Thanks!
599170 tn?1300973893 It is true. Check out Platelet girl's post. If you have a good anti-virus installed and firewall I think you should be ok.
6265786 tn?1386113658 im getting the length of my cervix checked tomorrow to make sure I dont have an incompitent cervix. im 15w2d can i see the baby at this scan?? or does this tool focus on the cervix????
Avatar f tn I recently was taken to the ER with severe left groin area pain, on the first day of my period. They did an ultrasound and CAT scan, which showed a 2cm cyst on my left ovary, unknown etiology. I followed up with my GYN and he ordered CA125 blood test and rescan in a month. A month later the cyst is still there, he tells me my ovary looks normal, but my CA 125 level was elevated at 87. This freaked me out of course. He wants to rescan me in 2months and feels no need to look inside me.
Avatar n tn I took a Lung Cat scan a year and a half ago because my doctor and I figured I was borderline and what the hell: this would be a good risk/cost/ reward tool. (He didn't arm twist ior scare me at all; it was my call.) Anyway, to our surprise, the scan showed one small "spot" on upper right lobe - 5 mm. He said don'y worry. (Yeah, right.) Then 90 days later another scan -- high contrast: no change in size. (Feeling good.
Avatar f tn So a clear PET scan is very good news, but it is one tool out of the toolbox. Because OvCa seeds around...a clear PET right now with rising CA-125 just means it's something to monitor. Remember, your ca-125 can rise for different reasons and does not always mean a tumor has taken hold (the PET would show that).
Avatar f tn A heart cath isn't a good tool for showing leaky valves, the best tool for this is an Ultrasound scan using doppler. If the valve is difficult to see, then they can perform a TEE where the sensor is passed down your throat, but in nearly all cases a standard Ultrasound is fine. I'm not sure what they mean by your 'heart closing', this is a new term for me.
Avatar n tn I had an MRI, Ct scan AND several xrays done for my migraines. i get them a lot. the MRI and Ct scan both came back fine.... the xrays showed that i have extra fluid in my sinuses, which was later diagnosed as sinusitis.
Avatar f tn My girlfriend has had migraines for most of her life, it runs in her immediate family. Symptoms include sharp pain in the back of her head and/or neck, dizziness, blurry vision, loss of hearing or ringing in her ears and sometimes feels like she's going to pass out. She had a CT scan and they said it was clean but she's scared. Is it just really bad headaches or could they have missed something worse?
Avatar m tn This was a CT scan, so the terminology used may be somewhat different. Doctors generally contact their patients quickly if something life-threatening turns up on a test. The best person to interpret the results is the doctor who prescribed the scan, so to set your mind at rest I urge you to give him or her a call. Since MS uses MRIs as diagnostic tool, not CTs, this forum is not a good place for your question. You might try the general neurology forum, but please do simply ask your doctor.
Avatar f tn Is a Cat Scan an effective diagnostic tool for Multiple Sclerosis? My doctor ordered one for this purpose but I only see MRI listed in the literature I've read.
Avatar m tn how accurate is the heart score tool? what does it measure exactly? any comments welcome.
