Is retreatment with Infergen realistic after failing one course of Pegintron/Ribavirin AND one very long course (80 weeks) of Pegasys/Ribavirin? Should I wait for the protease inhibitors? One month post treatment with Pegasys 180mcg and Ribavirin 1400mg (increased from 1200 because I kept bouncing between positive and negative), my viral load popped back up to 2.5 million. After Pegintron, it took 6 months to get up to 2.2 million (that was when I tried Pegasys/Ribavirin).
If you are talking about Hepatitis C treatment, Pegasys is NOT given by itself for treatment naive patients. Pegasys is given in conjunction with Ribavirin for Genotype 2 and Genotype 3 patients. Pegasys is given in conjunction with Ribavirin and a Protease Inhibitor (either Incivek or Victrelis) for Genotype 1 patients.

My physician prescribed PegIntron and gave me my fist treatment shot (he had a supply in the office). Come to find out that even after our insurance coverage, my out of pocket expense is $973 per month or PegIntron. I simply can't afford to pay this. Yes. With the older Pegasys & Ribavirin treatment, people had to be virus free for about 10 years before claiming they were cured. With the new triple therapy (Pegasys, Ribavirin, and Incivek or Victrelis) I suspect people will be able to claim they are cured if they are virus free 6 months, or maybe a year, after completing treatment. Bottom Line: If someone has a Sustained Virological Response (SVR) they can be considered cured.
The last test show AST 124, ALT 212, I will be starting treatment prescribed: Ribapack ribavirin tablet 400 mg & Ribavirin tablet 600mg dose pack # 56 tablets per month, and peginterferon alfa-2b inj kit 120 Mcg/0.5ml.
s transplant center is proposing 1 year of Pegasys (180mcg) and Ribavirin (1000mg) followed by a year of Pegasys alone to treat his recurrent HCV. Have you heard of that kind of treatment before? Why would the 2nd year be Pegasys alone? What do you do at your center in this situation?
Do you feel that it is important to get a viral load test at 4 weeks? How often should the viral load test be done? What is the procedure at your center?

I realize how important it is to take Victrelis at same times everyday.
Any other tips to make treatment more bearable would be appreciated.
