Pegasys peg intron

Common Questions and Answers about Pegasys peg intron

pegasys

442340 tn?1326817417 He uses Pegasys and my GI doctor (whom I love) uses peg-intron. My question for all peg-intron users is how bad have your sx been? The doctor I saw today said pegasys seems to have less sx, but of course not all people react the same way. I love my GI doctor and want to treat with him, but am I making a mistake by going Peg-Intron? Thanks for your input. My stats: 26 years old, really healthy, active female, geno 3a, VL 949,000. No biopsy done Thanks!
541844 tn?1244309824 I asked my doctor for pegasys over peg intron. He addressed my concerns and told me sx's for me would be similar with either drug and kinetics were similar for both with regard to initial suppression of the virus. I had read about peaks and troughs with peg intron. He said that was dated info. Ok, so we decided to stay with peg intron. Now...about dosage. Can anyone explain why pegasys is one dose fits all and peg intron is weight based? I will get 80 mcg with weight at 114 lbs.
335297 tn?1210597884 t have as good as a viral load drop as I did with the Peg-Intron. I had more sides with the Peg-Intron but a bigger viral load drop. I hope for you, that all the rest of your treatment day are sides free.
442340 tn?1326817417 I am only 110 lbs, so she said because it is weight based too, that is better for me. Any thoughts on Pegasys vs. Peg Intron? My stats again - female, mid 20s, type 3a, VL 950,000. I have been infected since birth (my mom was HCV). Thanks!
335297 tn?1210597884 I found out two weeks ago that the HCV virus is back and so I have begun Week 1 of treatment. My doctor has prescribed Peg-Intron since I had so many side-effects with Pegasys. Does anyone have any experience with both Pegasys and Peg-Intron? I am genotype 1, stage 3, grade 0-1. I took my first injection a few days ago and Peg-Intron completely wiped me out with feel and aches and pains but I am trying to accept what is to come and hope that my experience with the first tratment will help me.
422881 tn?1257603579 "180" is the standard dosage for Pegasys. You state you're on "Peg Intron" which is made by a different manufacturer and dosed differently by weight. The most common forumulations of Peg Intron need to be refrigerated and I therefore assume so does yours since it was shipped in a styrofoam container. The ribavirin can be stored at room temperature. Like in your case, my ribavirin was also shipped in the styrofoam along with the peg.
Avatar m tn Hoffman-LaRoche, the maker of Pegasys, and Schering-Plough, the maker of PEG-Intron, each have a patient assistance program for people having problems getting the drug. The number to call is (800) 443-6676 for Pegasys and (800) 521-7157 for PEG-Intron. http://www.atdn.org/simple/pifn.
4384361 tn?1399998230 My experience was that Pegasys was much much easier to tolerate than was Peg-Intron. I treated with both interferons and Pegasys was literally a walk in the park compared to Peg-Intron. I think the efficacy is pretty much equal with Pegasys perhaps having a slight edge. It was the tolerability of Pegasys that enabled me to extend my treatment duration and achieve SVR.
Avatar f tn I tolerated Pegasys much better than Peg Intron.
Avatar n tn t think there will be a problem with changing to Pegasys once your Peg-intron runs out. They both are very similar. My husband has taken both and the Pegasys was a much better experience for him than the Peg-intron. There should never be any interuption time in shots or Riba. This is a hateful virus and you can't give it any chance or it will find a way to live on. Missing doses is a very bad idea so if you change, you've got to make sure there are no gaps in delivery.
407029 tn?1253992623 I don’t know which interferon you are prescribed, Pegasys or PEG-Intron. Quite often, our insurance companies will cover the cost of ribavirin for a nominal co-pay; however, the interferon is excluded from the Rx side of the plan, but covered under major medical, which is probably why you are seeing the high co-pay. I’d encourage you to call one of the following numbers and ask about their Patient Assistant Plan (PAP).
Avatar m tn Eight years ago when I took the SOC I was told that Pegasys, which was relatively new then was better than the Peg intron which had been available for some time. I was also told by my doctor who was treating a large number of patients at his clinic that he had observed that the Pegasys was more easily tolerated than the other drug.
Avatar n tn But, it was with the same types of interferon and not with like Infergen and plus Pegasys. I was like using Peg-Intron plus daily low dose shots of regular Intron-A interferon (which are basically the same types of interferon). The only difference between Peg-Intron and Intron-A is that Peg-Intron is the pegulated form of Intron-A. Also, those of you who are old-timers on here will remember Doubledose guy, he did it also. So... Just to let you know.
Avatar f tn Yes they are different molecules. Pegasys (alpha 2a) is a larger molecule and stays in the body longer at higher concentrations. Pegintron (alpha 2b) is a small molecule and a week after injection the concentration in the body is very low. if you search you will be able to find studies that support either one being more effective. some people don't cure with one, but are able to cure with the other.
Avatar m tn So, double-dosing is one such card, but also is switching Pegs -- perhaps to Infergen, as opposed to Peg Intron. Remember, you were still detectible with Peg Intron at week 12 last time Another card is taking a look at your ribavirn/hemoglobin situation to make sure you're on a maximum, but reasonable dose for your body weight and hemoglobin response. Perhaps with the help of Procrit (epo).
422881 tn?1257603579 Well, if your HBV DNA wasn't all that high before your Peg Intron, it's not surprising that you would go UND. As long as you stay HBV DNA UND on Peg Intron, your HepB is being managed well. It's obviously the desired outcome. Here's the thing, you have a timeframe for Peg Intron for HCV treatment. I think your doc will stop Peg Intron based on HCV because there's no timeframe for HBV.
Avatar f tn My husband has treated with Peg-intron, Infergen and Pegasys and for him, Pegasys was the most tolerable of the three. Infergen was next and his least well tolerated drug was the Peg-intron. The Peg-intron was the first time and he did not have an anti-depressant on board which might be why it was so bad. We would never do that again. Even if the physical symptoms were the same, the depressed person would "feel" more miserable.
Avatar m tn I finished treatment with Peg-Intron and Ribavirin in 2007, after a 24 week course. I acheived non-detectable levels of HCVRNA after 4 weeks of treatment. I have, however, since relapsed. My current doctor would like to retreat with Infergen and Ribavirin, with the belief that the HCV virus has developed some form of immunity to the pegylated interferon.
Avatar f tn Kind of like a time release (sort of) .The 2 manufacturers of PEG being Roche (pegasys) and Sherring Plough (Peg-Intron). The main difference between those two is the molecule size. Some ask and argue which is better and which has the least side effects. It seems to be split. Depending on who you talk to. I hope that helps.
1191262 tn?1366763021 The Peg-intron was by far the hardest for him. Pegasys was much more tolerable in his case. If your mom used Peg-intron, she maybe could try Pegasys with one of the new protease inhibitors. You have to have a decent interferon response for it to work though. Hopefully your mom's health will hold out for a non-interferon solution. I hope something will work out for your mom.
Avatar n tn It means already she have used Pegelated Interferone (Usually there are two pegelated interferones available in the market, 1-Pegasys and 2- Peg-Intron). Just confirm that she had used Peg-Intron (pegelated) or Intron (simple interferone) previously. I think your mom should consult with good specilaist as he/she will first assess the condition of your mom whether she is in condition to support Treatment or not. seems to be from Pakistan or india ???
