Pegasys interferon cost

Common Questions and Answers about Pegasys interferon cost

pegasys

Avatar n tn Interferon is a protein that your body is constantly making, and your body makes even more interferon when it tries to fight off an infection, such as a virus. You've experienced this if you've ever had the flu. When you have the flu, your body makes extra interferon to defeat the virus that's causing the illness. For some infections, such as hepatitis C, patients can inject more interferon into their bodies to help fight the virus.
407029 tn?1253992623 I don’t know which interferon you are prescribed, Pegasys or PEG-Intron. Quite often, our insurance companies will cover the cost of ribavirin for a nominal co-pay; however, the interferon is excluded from the Rx side of the plan, but covered under major medical, which is probably why you are seeing the high co-pay. I’d encourage you to call one of the following numbers and ask about their Patient Assistant Plan (PAP).
1722607 tn?1335747858 I contacted my insurance company today to ask about the price of the meds for triple treatment. A 3 month supply of interferon, ribavirin, & Victrelis would cost $180.00 (so about $60 a month) I thought it was going to be a lot higher. But I forgot to ask about "rescue drugs". Not sure how that works and how much that would be. Any one have an idea?
Avatar f tn I have just started on interferon (135 once a week) and ribashere 200mg. twice a day. I need someone to tell me how much this will cost me for one year.
Avatar n tn You might ask your doctor to change your treatment protocol somehow; different type of interferon (Pegasys to Pegintron, perhaps). The last time you did the treatment were you fully compliant with meds; did you take the ribavirin and interferon on time as scheduled? It might benefit you to increase ribavirin dosage if possible, dependent on blood values. In short, something should probably change in regards to your medication to expect a different outcome the second treatment.
Avatar f tn im going back in 2 months to discuss tx. my question is does anyone know how much the interferon and ribavirn costs? my drs visits are paid for but i have to pay for the meds.
Avatar f tn That is only the cost of the Incivek - you still need to add in the cost of interferon and ribavirin and any additional rescue drugs you might need. I figure my regular treatment cost over $200,000 in total. Thank God for insurance.
Avatar f tn The price of telaprevir is $49,200 for the course of treatment, and boceprevir costs between $26,400 and $48,400 for the full course. Those prices do not include the cost of pegylated interferon and ribavirin http://www.pharmacypracticenews.com/ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar n tn Can only tell you what it costs here in the USA. The total treatment costs around $50-60,000 USD. This is for someone needing to do 48 weeks of treatment. Some treatments are for only 24 weeks so that would be around $30,000. The cost is aprox for ALL the injections and the pills that are part of the treatment. There are new drugs coming out next year that will be added to the current drugs, Peg-interferon & Ribavirin. The first one out should be Telaprevir.
Avatar n tn I can tell you what the Incivek and interferon would cost me if I didn't have insurance. The Incivek is 9000 dollars a month for 3 months. The Pegasys is 2900 dollars a month for 48 weeks (in my case). I only know this because Cigna reads me a disclosure, if I don't want to sign for the meds. The Ribaviron must not be so much because the don't require a signature for that...
Avatar n tn The co-pays vary according to your insurance plan. Interferon -either PegIntron or Pegasys are high and only available at full price -- that is there is no generic -- so you pay whatever the company charges. Ribavirin is now available in generic and is much more reasonable than co-pegasys or the Schering version. Then like nygirl said, you may need other medicines that are pricey if your blood counts tank. And then there are the hidden costs of lotions that cannot be ignored.
Avatar m tn Continuing with pegasys. Now no sides except for its cost. Will complete 48 weeks treatment at the end of this month. Will do hbsag in iu/ml and hbsab.
1057395 tn?1254367428 d need to ask them if they will pay for interferon (Pegasys or PegIntron) and ribavirin both as that is the currect standard of care medications. I just can't imagine any insurance not paying. My insurance had a $40 copay per month for both meds. Not too bad. Of course if you are denied there are patient assistance programs that likely could pay for the meds. All they really ask for is how much you make (which is not nearly as low as you would think!) and a copy of the denial letter.
Avatar m tn Congrats bro, what was ur hbeag status before interferon treatment and yes after how many months of interferon u lost hbsag, plz share ur entire biochemical and serological profile.
Avatar m tn it is also wrong to stop pegasys since you have no hbsab antibody yet you should have gon for 2 years pegasys as shown by the latest trials
Avatar m tn pegasys 48 weeks (the only thing that can cure me for real) or tenofovir for ... ever ? Because my VL is still very high I am not sure about the pegasys's efficacity at this stage. I know that taking pegasys could pay off in the long term (5-6-10 years) but the sides could be quite serious. I know all the ups and downs of both treatment but I still have a dilemma. I tend to favour the tenof. because of manageability (I am in the process of switching work places).
Avatar f tn Can i be asymptomatic, healthy and still take interferon?
Avatar n tn interferon lambda will be available soon, interferon has very little chances of hbv eradication when hbsag is higher than 1500iu/ml
2030686 tn?1351688548 I was under the impression HCV meds suppressed the immune system. In the class today, the guy said interferon helps boost the immune system. I'm a little confused now. I even asked to make sure that's what he meant to say. He said the pegasys boosts the immune system so the riba can kill the virus. So which is it?
Avatar f tn You need more then pegasys to treat Hepatitis C. Present treatment requirers 3 drugs. Interferon, Ribavirin, & Incivik or Victrelis. In order to get any of these drugs you will have to see a GI doctor, Hepatologist if possible. The doctor will run tests to find out what genotype you are, etc.
