The nurse gave me the Pegasys injection intramuscular in my arm instead of subcutaneous? Will that have any effect on the course of treatment? Does it have the same efficacy?will I still benefit from the injection in the same intended way?

Personally, I would not use the arms. The instructions show the injection sites as either the thighs or the abdomen. I think the reason is that the abdomen and the thighs have more fat on them and the arms often do not. Here is a site that tells you step by step how to inject interferon and shows you where to inject. Only the abdomen and thighs are shown. I empathize with you. I am beginning to run out of sites too.

Someone once posted a helpful video site on how to inject pegasys and I was wondering it there is any information on how to inject procrit. My last two hgb blood test results were 9.7 and 9.4 , so my doctor is going to order procrit for me. I am going to get procrit 40,000 units per ml per week. Is that the dose that everyone else is doing? Do you have to mix the solution or measure it out to inject ? My mind is a bit foggy these days....

I know that the instructions are to NOT shoot the Peg into a blood vessel, but does anyone know the consequences of such an idiotic action? I think a friend of mine (yeah, that's what we'll call him) may have been so unwitting! Anyone?

In regard to injection, if u pull back and see blood does it mean you hit a.capillary,or vein or what? Last week the nurse who gave me the shot did.not pull back and check for blood. If there is blood can u withdraw needle and inject in different spot in same area?

I know the Pegasys instructions say to aspirate to see if there is blood and I did do that the first 2-3 times. I found it difficult to do. A person is already in an awkward position and the syringe is very small. Also, my syringes have a red barrel. Plus most of the barrel is covered with white that has information written on it. So it is really difficult to visualize and also awkward.

I would like to avoid injecting in my thighs if possible due to the irritation at the injection site and the fact that my legs ache so massaging them would be difficult coupled with the irritation. I just took my 4th shot so no irritation there yet, but the first 2 places have a brown colored appearance and the 3rd site is still red, itches, and feels like a bad sunburn. All these splotches are not quite as big as a tennis ball.

Most instructions tell us to direct the needle straight but I use certain angle. Pegasus needle is about an inch long and how do you know how thick the subcutaneous fat layer of a thin person? Instruction tells me to check to see if there is blood in the syringe first (by pulling back a little) and stop the injection if it does. My doc has told me in some occasion, there is possibility that tip of the needle ended up in the blood vessel and we do not want that.

I think you'll find that a lot of people have irritation at the injection site. There were a few things that we found to be very helpful, and which reduced the redness at the site post-injection. One, make sure you've warmed up the Pegasys between your hands before, you don't want to inject cold interferon. Also, massaging the area for a few minutes post-injection was very helpful. Once we started doing these two things, the redness went away for the most part.

When I did my first shot I noticed clear leakage that came out of the injection area. There was only a small amount of leakage but I was kind of upset because I wanted every drip of medicine. I did the shot right in my stomach as the nurse instructed me - and even held it there for about seconds afterwards.. Some medicine still came out along with a little blood afterward. My question is do you have any tactics or advice to not allow this to happen.

My physician prescribed PegIntron and gave me my fist treatment shot (he had a supply in the office). Come to find out that even after our insurance coverage, my out of pocket expense is $973 per month or PegIntron. I simply can't afford to pay this. I did some research and found that Pegasys is comparable and my copay would be $50 per month. I am also taking Ribavirin. I do not know if I can stop the PegIntron and start the Pegasys.
