I was wondering if there have been any studies comparing Pegasys and Pegintron, and if one has better SVR numbers than the other or was more tolerable. I am new here so I hope I am posting this in the correct forum.

26June2008 Roche announced today that the European Commission has approved a shortened, 16-week course of treatment with Pegasys (peginterferon alfa-2a (40 KD)) plus Copegus (ribavirin) for certain hepatitis C patients.

The 16-week course will be available for patients with genotype 2 or 3 strains of chronic hepatitis C who have low virus levels before starting treatment and show rapid virological response, the Basel-based drug maker said. You need more then pegasys to treat Hepatitis C. Present treatment requirers 3 drugs. Interferon, Ribavirin, & Incivik or Victrelis. In order to get any of these drugs you will have to see a GI doctor, Hepatologist if possible. The doctor will run tests to find out what genotype you are, etc.

As Advocate and Dee mentioned, there is more to the Hepatitis C treatment than just Pegasys. And as Dee mentioned, if you could tell us more about yourself, your Genotype and liver biopsy fibrosis stage, and if you have ever treated before, we may be able to better respond to your questions.

The ONLY proven treatment for Hepatitis C is currently the chemotherapy combination of Interferon and Ribavirin. Brand names are Pegasys, Copegus and Infergen - there are others, I believe - but you'll have to find them.

It may be time to ask your doctor to send you to a specialist, either a hepatologist or gastroenterologist or infectious disease doctor and get evaluated. There is treatment for hepatitis C that can cure the disease in 45-80% of people depending on their genotype. I bet your mom will understand.
