Peg intron ribavirin therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Peg intron ribavirin therapy

peg-intron

Avatar f tn My husband who has been on the Peg Intron therapy for 17 weeks is suddenly experiencing nausea. His side effects have been mininal to date, but is it possible this is being caused by the medication? Can this side effect appear out of nowhere at this point in time?
Avatar n tn s weight is 60 kg and dr. recommend her 80 microgram dose of peg-intron injections with 400mg Virex capsulse. While I have read on Peg-intron literature that its dose is given by weight. For monotherapy use 0.5 microgram/kg/week. For combination therapy 1.5 microgram/kg/week...i think my mother case is combination therapy (injections + capsules). And for 60 kg weight injection dose should be 100 micrograms. Please advise.
Avatar n tn t mention that she took ribavirin pills too, you only state she took peg-intron. Hopefully she took ribavirin pills along with the peg-intron, because taking both interferon and ribavirin together greatly improves her chances of being cured. 3. Did your mom have a liver biopsy? A liver biopsy is a procedure where they stick a needle in your abdomen and remove a tiny sample of liver tissue.
422881 tn?1257603579 Well, if your HBV DNA wasn't all that high before your Peg Intron, it's not surprising that you would go UND. As long as you stay HBV DNA UND on Peg Intron, your HepB is being managed well. It's obviously the desired outcome. Here's the thing, you have a timeframe for Peg Intron for HCV treatment. I think your doc will stop Peg Intron based on HCV because there's no timeframe for HBV.
Avatar m tn I finished treatment with Peg-Intron and Ribavirin in 2007, after a 24 week course. I acheived non-detectable levels of HCVRNA after 4 weeks of treatment. I have, however, since relapsed. My current doctor would like to retreat with Infergen and Ribavirin, with the belief that the HCV virus has developed some form of immunity to the pegylated interferon.
1191262 tn?1366763021 The only thing I might add,is that this is my husbands 4th try and he has used all the available interferons. The Peg-intron was by far the hardest for him. Pegasys was much more tolerable in his case. If your mom used Peg-intron, she maybe could try Pegasys with one of the new protease inhibitors. You have to have a decent interferon response for it to work though. Hopefully your mom's health will hold out for a non-interferon solution. I hope something will work out for your mom.
422881 tn?1257603579 "180" is the standard dosage for Pegasys. You state you're on "Peg Intron" which is made by a different manufacturer and dosed differently by weight. The most common forumulations of Peg Intron need to be refrigerated and I therefore assume so does yours since it was shipped in a styrofoam container. The ribavirin can be stored at room temperature. Like in your case, my ribavirin was also shipped in the styrofoam along with the peg.
Avatar n tn Thanks for posting these I found them very helpful in deciding on my husbands third attempt at treating. He has used Pegintron and responded too slow (2 log drop at 13 weeks but too late for Ideal trial) next was Infergen but they had to keep lowering riba and he had a breakthrough. Joe has cirrhosis and his labs are low enough that this is likely our last chance to treat so I sure don't want to blow our last bullet.
Avatar m tn I have treated 5 or 6 times, cleared only to relapse each time. Have tried intron A , peg-intron, Pegasys and 72 weeks of infergen and until 6 months ago have been on maintenance therapy. I was a stage 4 with a enlarged spleen. Last biopsy and mri came back a stage 3 and a normal size spleen.
Avatar n tn The SVR rate for geno 1's using Intron A (pre-peg) with ribavirin was 14%.
4384361 tn?1399998230 My experience was that Pegasys was much much easier to tolerate than was Peg-Intron. I treated with both interferons and Pegasys was literally a walk in the park compared to Peg-Intron. I think the efficacy is pretty much equal with Pegasys perhaps having a slight edge. It was the tolerability of Pegasys that enabled me to extend my treatment duration and achieve SVR.
Avatar n tn I was taking Incivek, ribaviran and peg intron. I had a pre surgery physical today and my EKG came up slightly abnormal than the previous one I had before treatment. My question is can the aftermath of these drugs affect the heart? I'm supposed to have a meniscus repair done on the 27th and my cardiologist suggests I have a CT scan of my heart. Any insight would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn t think there will be a problem with changing to Pegasys once your Peg-intron runs out. They both are very similar. My husband has taken both and the Pegasys was a much better experience for him than the Peg-intron. There should never be any interuption time in shots or Riba. This is a hateful virus and you can't give it any chance or it will find a way to live on. Missing doses is a very bad idea so if you change, you've got to make sure there are no gaps in delivery.
Avatar m tn I know you like the more technical so you might want to continue searching. While no one can say for certain which is the "better" Peg, the molecules are different and so is the dosing scheme with Peg Intron dosed by weight and Pegasys with a one dose for all weight scheme. You will also find advocates among leading doctors/reseachers for both in private conversations although the ones I've spoken to -- advocates on both sides -- admit their conclusions are somewhat anecdotal.
442340 tn?1326817417 I got two letters today, one saying that I am denied Peg-Intron beacuse I did not try pegasys. And the second said I was denied Ribaviron because that is only approved for people with hep C using peg-intron or pegasys with geno 2 or 3. HELLO INSURANCE CO....I'm HCV and geno 3!!!! SOOOO FRUSTRATING! Sorry, needed to vent. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
1253246 tn?1332073310 http://www.spfiles.com/pipeg-intron.pdf Effect of food on absorption of ribavirin: Both AUC and C-MAX increased by seventy percent when Rebetol Capsules were administered with a high fat meal: (841 kcal, 53.8 g fat, 31.6 g protein, and 57.4 g carbohydrate) in a single-dose pharmacokinetic study.
Avatar n tn Standard interferon used for HCV therapy used to require injections 3 x week, versus the weekly injections now. There are a couple of different types now available; Pegasys and Peg-Intron; both are prescribed with the oral drug ribavirin.
407029 tn?1253992623 I don’t know which interferon you are prescribed, Pegasys or PEG-Intron. Quite often, our insurance companies will cover the cost of ribavirin for a nominal co-pay; however, the interferon is excluded from the Rx side of the plan, but covered under major medical, which is probably why you are seeing the high co-pay. I’d encourage you to call one of the following numbers and ask about their Patient Assistant Plan (PAP).
Avatar n tn s PEGINTRON (peginterferon alfa-2b) Powder for Injection and INTRON A (interferon alfa-2b, recombinant) for Injection, or INTRON A therapy should be taken with REBETOL (ribavirin, USP) Capsules. Both Peg Intron and Pegasys have the same effect which is to stimulate our own immune system to fight and kill the virus only different molecular structure. I'm not real sure on this but the cost is around $2200.00 a month which includes 4 injections and ribavirin.
1229856 tn?1268912787 I'm so sorry to hear your situation. I also just recently failed my Interferon/Ribavirin treatment. I'm running very emotional right now. My opinion is that the effects of these drugs on your body are so harsh and the success rate is so low, that I question whether it's worth treating HCV at all. I was told to take at least 6 months off if I decide to attempt treatment again. HA! ********. Like I would ever put my body through what I've just been through ever again.
