Common Questions and Answers about Pediatric pneumonia nursing management

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Hello, my daughter, age 3, had a bronchoscopy and CT scan after repeated bouts of pneumonia in the same spot, right middle lobe. This all started after a severe RSV/pneumonia hospitalization as an infant. Her CT scan was read as "mild bronchiectasis" in the right middle lobe, same spot as her atelectasis. We know for sure that her last bout of pneumonia in march never fully cleared, b/c we did X-rays every 3 months. So she's had this atelectasis spot for quite awhile now.
Avatar n tn He has been on steroids and all types of treatments including nebulizers, etc. since I can remember. He constantly is sick, cough, pneumonia and I feel helpless. He takes about 10 meds a day! HELP! nothing seems to get him better...
Avatar f tn Your baby has a serious complication of spina bifida. Severe ventriculomegaly (hydrocepahly) can result is very difficult deliveries because of head size (macrocephaly) and cause injury to the brain over time.
Avatar f tn My eleven year old daughter suffers from chronic cough, chronic pneumonia. She has every test known to man ( I think) and a few surgeries, both exploratory and for sinus surgery. Despite being treated by a team of doctors, no one can pinpoint a reason for the continuing pneumoias. She has been tested and treated for reflux, asthma, sinusitis, immunology. She is becoming resistant to antibiotics and we are very frightened for her.
Avatar n tn The dr today did another xray and said that despite being on meds her pneumonia has gotten considerably worse. She wants to refer her to a pediatric pulmonologist to have some other things checked but she didn't want to expand on what she was wanting her checked for. I am very concerned. My daughter doesn't act like she feels bad so I am confused on what is going on? Shouldn't someone with pneumonia feel bad? She was also diagnosed with hypoglycemia today. I am scared.
Avatar n tn ve encountered a case in which a 5-day old puppy was brought in the clinic with hemoptysis, I concluded that it was aspiration pneumonia because the puppy was only been nursed by the owner... We immediately administered antibiotics and wasn't able to put on IV fluids due to the small size of the puppy, we tried administering oral fluids, but it doesn't work well.... after an hour, the puppy died and coughed a lot of blood....
Avatar f tn My son is 7 years old and has had pneumonia twice in the last 2 years. The second time they told me it returned in the exact same spot. They told me to have another xray in 6 weeks. Hes otherwise a healthy boy what would cause it to return in the same spot. I know there are probably many causes but what comes to mind?
Avatar n tn Never even rotovirus, only croup. A couple (2-3) times it has turned into pneumonia. The pediatric ENT did a bronchoscopy on her and it was perfectly normal. Now I have appointments with a pediatric pulmonologist and an immunologist. She has had allergy testing and is no allergies to anything. In the summers she is perfectly fine but from late August to even as late as May she has gets croup.
Avatar f tn Wed we go to this additional doctor in philly.
1468105 tn?1287151463 My 6 year old daughter had a CT scan for possible trauma after bike fall. She didn't have any internal injuries, but the CT Scan showed a lung nodule, which required a 2nd CT Scan of her chest. The 2nd CT scan revealed a 3.7mm lobulated suprahilar mass (ill defined), an 11mm nodule (ill defined) in the infrahilar region, and 2 other 5mm nodules on in the middle/lower lobes, and a couple of enlarged lymph nodes. There was some septal thickening and multiple subpleural blebs.
Avatar n tn He does not want to be reassessed and so we have had him moved to a nursing facility for medical management. Before all of this started he was living in an assited living home. I guess my question is: What else can we expect to fail in his body from the heart and also the kidney's?
Avatar f tn It would be prudent to arrange an evaluation with a pediatric mental health professional for the purpose of considering whether the behaviors your son is displaying are secondary to am emotional disorder like depression. At the same time, the clinician can guide you re: behavior management. For a start re: behavior, read Lynn Clark's book SOS Help for Parents (see www.sosprograms.com).

Avatar n tn I might have worded that funny about "asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around". Pneumonia can also antagonize asthma if the person already has asthma, but pneumonia doesn't actually cause asthma.
Avatar f tn My son is 7 years old has had pneumonia at LEAST 5 times in his life (will find my copies of his record which Ihave to prove it)after having the vaccine, rsv twice before he was 1 year old after having the vaccine, has had a bronchoscopy twice once at 10mos old and one at 5 years old, first one to determine diagnosis second to receive prognosis over time. Avatar n tn Am not a doctor, but this sounds like pneumonia. I use to work in a nursing home and seen people with this problem..u need the hospital...please go straight away...
Avatar n tn Hi,Mycoplasma pneumonia is atypical and notorious for it's slow long course,I would say if she is still experiencing symptoms then the infection isn't gone completely or she was misdiagnosed. If she has already taken a course of antibiotics and you have insurance, then I would suggest a Bronchoscopy, with Bronchoalveolar lavage.
Avatar m tn Not worth taking a chance. Make an appointment ASAP with a pediatric endo. Are you nursing and was the baby born early? Do you or anyone in family have thyroid issues?
Avatar n tn Then she started to complain during the day. We figured it was growing pains at first and then consulted with a pediatric rheumatologist. She ruled out systemic arthritis but did say she was reacting to her exam of her left knee and to keep an eye on it. After another 6 months of intermittent late night crying episodes, noticing a popping sound and some very expensive sneakers we saw a pediatric orthopedist last week.
Avatar f tn However, if the behavior management of pediatric patient is achievable , generally general anesthesia is not mandatory. Seeing a competent pediatric dentist is advised.
Avatar m tn My husband has a G-tube for all food, meds, hydration resulting from radiation to tongue years ago. His major problem is aspiration pneumonia since the valve to his airway(s) does not close and is in open position constantly. Reflux of food and gases causes repeated pneumonia episodes, the latest resulting in more than 2 months in 4 hospitals and extreme loss of weight. He is facing jejunostomy in the very near future. We are told that later, fundoplication may be great help to him.
Avatar n tn My son went to the hospital because he was complaining of stomach pain and chest pain he had a chest x-ray and EKG done the chest x-ray came back that he has pneumonia and the EKG showed prolonged QT. He had a ECHO done it was normal. Also had a 24 hr halter monitor placed it showed a few extra heart beats. Cardiologist says no need for any treatment just a follow up appointment in a year.
Avatar f tn My family and I are at a loss. My dad had his aortic valve replaced (elective/scheduled) on 12/15/22. The Dr. said he lost a lot of blood and they had trouble controlling his blood pressure during the surgery. He was never extubated after the surgery, never followed commands. They did a CT scan 4 days later, that's when it was discovered he had a stroke. Later that week he had a trach and g-tube put in.

550796 tn?1214942591 Please ask your vet for a prescription for an expectorant, or if your vet believes that an over the counter pediatric expectorant and/or cough medicine will help. The rest of the help is supportive therapy. And good luck with your little guy!
