Paxil zaps

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil zaps

paxil

Avatar f tn I have quit Paxil cold-turkey 7 days ago. I read in a forum about using Allegra (an allergy med) to help the side effects. I have found that the Allegra really helps with the Zaps that occur. My problem is I don't want to take one in the afternoon, evening because they will keep me awake all night! Anybody got any night time ideas. I will not take another Paxil - I will put up with whatever licks I have to take. Any idea how long withdrawl symptoms will pop up. Do I have them all now?
Avatar m tn Paxil and Celexa are two completely different animals. Maybe you did quit too quickly -- there isn't any set standard, the protocol is to go as slowly as you need to. But brain zaps can happen on the slowest taper with any antidepressant. What I would do is try taking a healthy dose of fish oil every day and see if it helps -- many people have reported this helps with the brain zaps. If the withdrawal eases, you're home free.
Avatar m tn I was on Paxil for a short time (6 months) NEVER AGAIN, everything started going bad since I have stopped taking the meds. I have not taken Paxil in over 2 years and still get the Zaps. I have started smoking pot instead of the man made scary drugs, when I was on Paxil all I could think about was ways to try and end my life, it was so scary.
1423357 tn?1511085442 She was having a difficult time of it last night until she took the Paxil. She was experiencing some nausea along with the zaps. Interestingly she had not one zap earlier in the evening while talking to a friend we met while out at dinner. She says it was almost like when her brain is active, the zaps go away. So she took the Paxil around 10pm, and within minutes, the brain zaps stopped, and she had a restful night. Today starts Day 3 off Effexor.
Avatar n tn Oh man. You definitely want to tell a doctor if you have one. I know that may be bad news for people who cannot afford it, but to those reading this who can't, you must try to find a way. It doesn't sound like anything too terrible, but...I am not a doctor. I just quit Xanax cold turkey and am on day six. I'm getting the twitches. But I am happy to have seemingly gone through the worst of it. I never want to touch a dependancy causing drug again.
Avatar f tn t want to hear this, but tapering as slowly as you need to is the only safe way to come off this med (or many others as well, but especially Paxil). And that pace of tapering is different for everyone. As for the dizziness and the zaps, a healthy dose of fish oil can be very helpful, and you might also try some ginger (in supplement or juiced form). Some find using St. John's Wort after stopping completely is helpful, some don't.
Avatar n tn For the brain zaps, try fish oil. You can also try tapering more slowly.
1456780 tn?1310146897 Hi there! I had the brain zaps as well, but mine was a result of getting off my paxil. Ive been off paxil for about a year now, and still randomly get these, I also get them in my chest and my through my arms. It is very strange, but my doctor assures me that its normal, and just one of the horrible symptoms we get from anxiety.. Hang in there, and hopefully these will subside soon, but just know your not the first to have these, and certainly not the last!
Avatar f tn I have been looking for a term - for the effect of SSRI withdrawal. Mine don't zap as much as it feels as if my brain swells right between the temples. No pain. No dizziness. I need the right word. When I say "vertigo", everyone thinks something else. Anyway ... I had it w/ Paxil and am now experiencing (delayed) with coming off Prozac. I won't go back on antidepressants - but am wondering what to call this - maybe brain zaps work.
704329 tn?1518523098 I can feel safe in telling you that the those problems were most definitely parially the Paxil. Nightmares is among the long list of withdrawl symptoms for Paxil. You cannot quit Paxil "cold turkey". This is not only very uncomfortable but could prove dangerous to your own well-being. Paxil has the shortest half-life of all the SSRI's. It will last full effect for a mere half-day (hence the reason for the CR version).
Avatar n tn I am 66, how long will paxil withdrawal last for me? I have been taking it dor 12 years.
944223 tn?1245869858 Fish oil supplements have been known to help with the brain zaps. If it gets worse than you can handle, go back on the last dose of Paxil you were on and taper more slowly. But as I say, you might at this point want to just try the fish oil and get plenty of exercise, since it sounds like a mild withdrawal.
730044 tn?1231438020 the depression i feel from gaining so much weight or the reasons i started taking paxil in the first place. once i am off of paxil i will never tak it again. i am weening myself slowly.
Avatar f tn Do a search for 'Paxil brain zaps' on Yahoo or Google. It's become pretty well documented recently but some doctors don't seem to be aware of it for some reason... http://****.org ...has a fairly standard description. Just keep in mind people overwhelmingly share negative information on antidepressants on the internet than positive experiences (people like to share negative experiences more it seems).
Avatar f tn e., brain zaps etc.). I have tried to get off Paxil with a doctor, the brain zaps I get, they only way I can explain them is they are like your computer, when it blinks for just a second, it's like my brain and CNS zap, and it happens anywhere from every 30 seconds to every couple of minutes. I have to lay down and close my eyes. I don't know what to do. I had one doctor tell me I may just have to be on it for life. What if they stop making it then?
Avatar m tn The doctor thought I may not have enough Paxil in my system so he put me on 25mg Paxil CR twice daily and it made me feel even worse. I felt like I had the flu and very achy. Very bad withdrawal effects. I was then put on regular paxil 40 mg daily and I constantly had the eye zaps and strong depersonalization feelings like I was in a constant withdrawal. I was then switched to Lexapro 20 mg.
Avatar n tn My doctor swiched me from Paxil to Bupropion Sr. last week and He said that thier was no need to ween myself off of the Paxil. So I started the Bupropion Sr at 150mg once a day for 4 days and then was to go on to two a day, Well since I started the drug. I have been very dizzy and if I move my head to fast I feel like a jolt in my vision. I told my doctor and he suggested to stay on the one a day for another week. I also have lost a pound a day since starting the drug.
Avatar f tn Did you taper off or quit cold turkey? And how does your doc know how long it'll last? It's different for everyone. So far, your symptoms are actually pretty tame for Paxil, so I think you'll be fine. This is referred to as the Paxil flu, but if it starts to get emotional, then go back on it and taper off more slowly.
Avatar m tn , nausea and headaches felt when stopping Effexor, but the Paxil really helped to ease the severity of the symptoms. 10 days later, the brain zaps are gone, but the nausea and headaches continue, especially when her daily dose of Paxil is about due. She is a different person on the Paxil and says she feels fantastic.
3142879 tn?1342977455 I have been on paxil for 4 yrs now and I lost my insurance and the cost for the meds are 40 bucks. Now I have been off my paxil for 4 days now and im miserable and I still have 2 days till I can go get my script. The zaps and irritability is whats really getting to me. Will 1 klonopin a day help with the withdrawals?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking my Paxil CR 25mg approx 3 weeks ago due to loss of insurance and job. I had been taking them for over 2 years and before that I took other anti-depressants for several years. Since stopping the pills I have been experiencing insomnia and "dizzy spells". The spells last about 1 second, can occur when I take a deep breath, or move my eyes fast, among other reasons, and happen 50+ times per day. I feel this is a direct effect from stopping the pills.
Avatar m tn 3 years ago a physician friend prescribed PAXIL for my mild OCD symptoms, my own diagnoses. Obsessive worries/somewhat irrational worries during a time of much stress. It did help. But, now I am ready to employ some exposure response prevention and willpower. I have not even seen the physician in years. Just got script with 10 refills. Well now I am experiencing some horrific withdrawal symptoms I was on only 20mg. for years. Took 10mg. for weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have trying to figure out what is wrong. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and take medicine but have not gone off of any of them. I am a vegetarian and I am a 15 year old female. I have had what is known as "brain zaps" or "brain shivers" every once in a while, say every year until recently the episodes have been getting more frequent. I have been miserably exhausted the last couple weeks.
