Common Questions and Answers about Paxil withdrawal insomnia

paxil

Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Avatar n tn I was on Paxil for a few months and came off and experienced massive withdrawal, worse then my previous Loratab addiction. I came off cold turkey but immediately switched to Zoloft. I was on a high dose of Paxil. The only ache I had was a massive headache 24/7. Massive!! I went back on Paxil for two weeks and I'm off again but it's odd that I have no headache but I have the most horrible back pain. I never had this before starting Paxil.
704329 tn?1518523098 One symptom of withdrawal is insomnia. If you a miss a dose, you should take the missed dose as soon as possible, but if it is close to the time that you usually take the medication you should skip the missed dose and restart your usual routine. You should be fine as long as you get the prescription refilled and continue with your normal routine the next day.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
Avatar f tn Do a search on the forum about Paxil withdrawal symptoms.I went on it for a while and my doctor said its good for anxiety and is non addictive!not only was it worse for my condition-it increased my anxiety, but getting off it was a nightmare!Brain zaps, extreme anxiety insomnia etc.speak to your doctor about this possibility.
Avatar n tn 25mg of Xanax 2-3 times a week for for about 5 months to deal with hypnic jerks and insomnia from Paxil withdrawal. I usually only take .125mg and a few times I have gone a week with none at all. The problem is the jerks and insomnia are worst when I am on my period so I took .125mg Saturday, Monday, and last night. I also dropped dose in Paxil a few days ago and now I am beginning to feel anxious and wonder if it is the Paxil WD or possibly Xanax WD.
Avatar n tn After reading horror stories of paxil, I decided not to take it so he gave me cipralex (Lexapro) 10 mg and said its safe and helpful and its side effects and withdrawal are much less than paxil. I am still afraid to start the medication to tell you the truth. But 1 thing for sure Thank God I dont get the panic attacks anymore, and I do not feel depressed or down that much either, and my social anxiety is very minimal and it does not interfer with my daily life at all (i.
Avatar f tn Something about this sounds fishy to me -- when I lost my health insurance for five years my former psychiatrist kept calling in my refills without seeing me. My understanding is that the requirement to see you is only for controlled substances, such as benzodiazapenes, but paxil, though it probably should be, isn't classified as an addictive drug. Therefore, your fear about the ER thinking you're an addict doesn't apply to this drug.
Avatar f tn My anxiety did not cause me insomnia, so I don't think they go hand in hand. A severe case of withdrawal from Paxil did, though, and it's intractable, so I feel for you. I think the reason just plain old anxiety didn't cause me insomnia is because I exercised regularly and meditated twice a day.
Avatar f tn I just started taking paxil today. I am only taking 10 mg. My doc gave me 20 mg pills but said that I can take half to start off with to see how my body responds. I was prescribed it for anxiety and panic attacks. Can anyone please tell me how long it will take for me to feel better? I have pretty much constant anxiety. For the past fews days it has been so bad that I feel like I cannot catch my breath all day. I went to ER and everything is fine.
Avatar f tn Some things here. First, you say you used Paxil occasionally. You can't use antidepressants occasionally, they don't work that way and you suffer withdrawal every time you miss a dose. Paxil is, and don't get scared, along with Effexor the most difficult of all antidepressants to stop taking. Doing this cold turkey was not your best idea, nor was using it occasionally. You need to slowly taper off the medication according to a schedule that suits you, not your doctor.
Avatar n tn Paxil should be taken off the market no question!!! I don't agree with the answer you got from the doctor at all. I weened off paxil over a years time and am now on day 49 paxil free. Not realizing the strange things that have happened to me over the past year was from the paxil withdrawal I didn't really investigate on line until I completely stopped on January 21, 2008 and by February 12, 2008 the proverbial s## hit the fan.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much! Today I had a 99.6 fever and bad headaches that are some of the worse headaches that I've had. I've had some trembling in the hands. I'm sleeping well because of the Elavil I am on which is also for depression and neuropathy. It's helped a lot since she switched me. I'm on the highest dose of Zoloft and normally you start out lower. I will feel aweful in the morning and 30mins after taking the Zoloft I feel much better. So it is definitely helping.
Avatar m tn I myself believe that paxil is responseable for your problems. Paxil just as prozac have caused very serious problems even when only 1 pill has been taken. But, Don't take it from me. Please check out xxx.xxx or search the web for more on this from someone who has researched this more than anyone, Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, she is the front runner for drugawareness.org and has written a book on these drugs. She also has investagated several cases where these drugs have hurt so many.
Avatar n tn Put him on the internet, type in Paxil withdrawal, and make him sit there and read. And why would you ever go off this med cold turkey? Why does anyone still do this after all the lawsuits and revelations and ten years of publicity?
Avatar f tn Believe it or not, my psychiatrist never told me about withdrawal even while I was going through it. I've never recovered from it. But I don't consider myself a model for how everyone will react. Some slide through. But if he had forewarned me and followed the protocols for withdrawal, at worst I'd still be on Paxil, which means I'd still be dealing with the side effects but my emotional state wouldn't be completely destroyed with nobody knowing how to fix it.
Avatar n tn If you can handle the Paxil withdrawal, then okay. If not, the only way to stop it is to go back on it and taper more slowly. Again, neither Zoloft or Effexor, which is an entirely different class of medication, will necessarily do anything about your Paxil withdrawal, and sobbing is definitely a sign of ssri withdrawal. I can't tell you what to do, I can only suggest, based on my experience and my reading, the proper way to go off a med, and your doc isn't doing it that way.
Avatar f tn s not always effective for insomnia. the trazadone is wonderful for that, and it also helps with depression, as does the paxil. just do not ever quit any of these medications cold turkey. you will need to taper off them.
Avatar f tn that I have finally found a site that actually deals with paxil and the ill effects of withdrawal. I have been on paxil on and off for 30 years after being diagnosed with a chemical imbalance at 17. I am or at least was feeling well and I wanted to try discontinuing paxil to detoxify my body. I did do it gradually which I would advise everyone however even after being off of the pills completely for 3 weeks I still suffer from a sense of hightened response to noise or movement.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 10 mg of Paxil for ten days, and I still am experiencing insomnia as a side effect. I'm taking Xanax to help my sleep, but I can't do this indefinitely. How long should I put up with this insomnia before deciding Paxil is the wrong medication for me? Thank you!
Avatar m tn My doc stated that I could switch over to Lexapro from Paxil so I took both for 2 weeks then dropped Paxil all together. Could I still be feeling the affects of Paxil withdrawal? I felt good after 2 weeks and even tried to come down on my Klonopin a couple of days after my paxil ended. Mistake! Just wanting to know if anybody had the same issues and how long do I need to plan on suffering? This is getting old and I'm ready to feel like my old self again.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with severe panic disorder with associated depression, agoraphobia, insomnia and generalized anxiety. I have for the past 3-4 years taken Valium Paxil and Xanax. Recently I was asked by my Primary to take a urinalysis. It showed the Valium and the metobolic breakdown, the Paxil wasn't tested for however my Xanax came up negative. I have absolutely no idea how that is possible as I take as directed.
Avatar n tn I wanted to get off that and paxil. I got off the paxil which I was on for 12 years. It took me 2 months of withdrawal which was for me, a lot of anxiety. By the way I also went off the xanax by reducing it to half a pill. I did this for about a year until I finally went from that to half a pill every other day to twice a week and finally to only when I needed that half. Now I don't take that at all. I am now at the point that I take half an ambien with a mild sleep aide.
Avatar n tn Try taking some fish oil and adaptogenic herbs like ashwandha to help with the Paxil withdrawal, exercise, keep active. Good luck.
