Paxil withdrawal and fatigue

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil withdrawal and fatigue

paxil

Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 10 years off and on and for almost two years straight now. I've noticed marked fatigue right after I take my medication for the last month or so and I'm wondering whats up. I can't see my doctor for two months. Has anyone had a common occurence?
Avatar n tn I took paxil. I had no energy at all while on them, but they did wonders for the anxiety. Due to the extreme fatigue, and my having to hold a physical job, I too decided to wean off. I was on 20 mg. I started by missing one or two a wk, then went down to taking them every other day for a couple of weeks, then every 2 days for a couple of weeks and so on. It has to be very slow giving your body time to adjust. Otherwise, bam!
Avatar m tn I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was on Paxil for a month and I hated it. My doc told me to take 1/2 a tablet for a week combined with Welbutrin. I am having some withdrawal symtoms. I am really cranky and at nite I cry. Is this normal and when will it stop? Oh I also hear a whooshing sound when I move my eyes.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil CR for 2 years now, and my highest dosage was 37.5 mg about 5 or 6 months ago. Over the past 6 months I have SLOWLY been reducing my dosage as I feel Paxil CR has not been the right drug for me. I would reduce the dosage about every month and a half. About 1.5 months ago, I reduced my dosage from 12.5 mg to 6 mg. Around this time, I started having EXTREME fatigue and chronic, unbearable nausea. I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy but both were completely normal.
Avatar n tn Your system can become passive to Paxil within one year. Withdrawals are brutal and some withdrawal symptoms can be permanent, like brain zaps. I do not recommend remaining on Paxil. Only take propranolol with other psych meds if you have high diastolic BP or too fast a heart beat. Propranolol is very mildly effective for anxiety. I take Klonopin only at the onset of a panic attack. I let it disolve under my tongue. The combination of the three should not be routinely taken.
1423357 tn?1511085442 Your wife could be having the nausea and fatigue from both the withdrawal of Effexor and starting back on Paxil. She sounds like she's doing great. I'm sure a lot of this has to do with you and your wonderful support. Her symptoms should get better the longer she's on the Effezor.
Avatar n tn I was on Paxil for a few months and came off and experienced massive withdrawal, worse then my previous Loratab addiction. I came off cold turkey but immediately switched to Zoloft. I was on a high dose of Paxil. The only ache I had was a massive headache 24/7. Massive!! I went back on Paxil for two weeks and I'm off again but it's odd that I have no headache but I have the most horrible back pain. I never had this before starting Paxil.
Avatar n tn I have done alot of research and am finding that alot of people are having paxil w/d for up to and over a year. With depression and w/d symptoms so similar, how can you tell which is which? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn my daughter is very anxious so the dr put her on both the cymbalta 30 mg with the paxil of 20 for one week and then 15 paxel for another week and then 10 paxil and increase to 60 cymbalta. she had a brain trauma in a car accident and has to deal with alot so is this too much. she had a seizure on the ultram but she took too many at one time for a headache..
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar m tn I take 30mg of Paxil once daily and find it to be fairly effective. I have been on it for a year and a half now and find it has less side effects than the 150mg/effexor I was on for years before hand.
Avatar n tn m experiencing headaches, fatigue, anxieity and am crying constantly and feeling like the future is bleak. From complete control to this???. So I went back into the doctor's office and this time I saw the nurse practiononer and SHE told me that paxil is very difficult to get off of and has tons of side effects as you try to go off of it and that it should have been tapered off of more slowly. She also said that dosage of the prozac was an entry level dose.
Avatar m tn My doc stated that I could switch over to Lexapro from Paxil so I took both for 2 weeks then dropped Paxil all together. Could I still be feeling the affects of Paxil withdrawal? I felt good after 2 weeks and even tried to come down on my Klonopin a couple of days after my paxil ended. Mistake! Just wanting to know if anybody had the same issues and how long do I need to plan on suffering? This is getting old and I'm ready to feel like my old self again.
Avatar n tn First of all, is he in therapy? The meds won't cure him, they just treat symptoms. Second, you say he is suffering depression. Does he also suffer anxiety? I ask because some pure antidepressants are stimulating and can cause anxiety. And did he wean off Lexapro, or quit cold turkey and to immediately to Paxil? He could be suffering Lexapro withdrawal if he did, and Paxil won't necessarily do anything about that.
Avatar n tn If you can handle the Paxil withdrawal, then okay. If not, the only way to stop it is to go back on it and taper more slowly. Again, neither Zoloft or Effexor, which is an entirely different class of medication, will necessarily do anything about your Paxil withdrawal, and sobbing is definitely a sign of ssri withdrawal. I can't tell you what to do, I can only suggest, based on my experience and my reading, the proper way to go off a med, and your doc isn't doing it that way.
Avatar n tn try out Paxil for yourself for a year or 2 and then stop taking it. My husband was on Paxil in the army and stopped taking it and got what they call the "Paxil Flu". This is a dangerous drug that has many side effects and many MANY more withdrawal symptoms. You might as well be on heroin and try to get off. If I could go back, I would have never gotten on Paxil. It helped with panic attacks but gave me about 30 other problems. So to sum up....
1035021 tn?1296820707 Hi there, I suffer of anxiety attacks and this was increasing my blood pressure very high, I went to see a cardiologist and he gave me XANAX for anxiety cause I wanted to know if this was the main cause of my high blood pressure episodes... At the same time my General Doctor gave me PAXIL for the same thing, telling me that this med was less addictive and will help me for panic attacks and anxiety long term.
Avatar n tn I have done my research on the internet on withdrawl effects and I have just about experienced them all. From hot/ cold nightsweats, fatigue, diarrea, flu-like symptoms, nausea, dizziness, headaches, and shakiness. I also have been experiencing extreme shakiness when I have not eaten for about 3 hours. Almost as if I have trouble maintaining blood glucose levels. My question is I am approaching the 2 week mark and I keep thinking these nasty side effects will all go away now.
Avatar n tn Try taking some fish oil and adaptogenic herbs like ashwandha to help with the Paxil withdrawal, exercise, keep active. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Heroin in far worse physiologically, and Paxil far worse emotionally to withdraw from. And Paxil withdrawal can last a whole lot longer. But the reason it's not addictive is, to be technically considered addictive, you have to need to continually increase the dose to get the same effect. That's not true of ssris. But addiction is actually a medical term that has found it's way into our common lexicon in all kinds of erroneous ways.
Avatar n tn I am a 20 year old, 5'2", 115lb. female and for the past year or so I've been on Paxil, but my entire experience with Paxil is that it makes me nauseous and shake no matter how long I take it for. My body can't seem to get over the side-effects, so for a while I was only taking the Paxil every three to four days (they were extended-release pills) and I seemed to be alright. But for the past few weeks I decided to try to get off Paxil completely.
Avatar n tn Recently I started taking Vyvance 30mg for adult ADD and wanted to see if I could ween myself off of the Paxil. I cut the dosage in half for two weeks. I did not experience any of the flu like symtoms, but I distinctly noticed an increase in irritation, anger, and had one rage episode the second week. Suppressed anger, resentment, and bitterness was an area I started dealing with from the beginning of therapy and haven't had that kind of anger for a long time, is this normal.
1386506 tn?1279613689 Two questions: are you still on it, which it seems you are since you say you're still weaning off, and are these symptoms new to you or are they the original symptoms that led to go on Paxil in the first place? Don't be frightened, but Paxil is probably the most problematic med to quit taking, with snris running second.
Avatar f tn Paxil has a short 1/2 life so you will experience withdrawal if you stop abruptly. However, if you stop the paxil now and take 20 mg of Prozac for 3-5 days, you're at steady state then with an SSRI. Then you can just stop prozac because of it's long 1/2 life and it self-tapers. It's the only SSRI that self-tapers. So, no discontinuation syndrome. If you want to stop Paxil: 1) Stop it. 2) Take prozac 20mg 3-5 days 3) Stop prozac and it will naturally taper you off.
Avatar f tn I had horrible episodes with my PVC's when I came off of Paxil. I'm not exactly sure why, but my body does better with prozac than paxil. Nearly every time that I have had an "attack" of SVT it was during a time when I was trying to wean off of paxil. Mostly I would just go back on the paxil and decide, well, it's better on than off. Then I got permission to switch to Prozac and I haven't been brave enough to try coming off of that yet.
Avatar f tn He has never suffered from anxiety before. His shrink upped the Paxil to 20mg and gave him a low dose of xanax (0.25mg and later 0.5mg) to take as needed. He also takes clonozapan as needed, but both these drugs make him fuzzy or put him to sleep, so he can't function/work when he takes them. The past week has been horrendous. He wakes up terrified! Sweating, heart racing, crying, and terrified to leave the house.
Avatar f tn If you were on Paxil for 17 years straight, quitting can be very very difficult. Lexapro won't make it any easier since it's a different drug. You were on a very low dose of Paxil, but still, that's a long time, and Paxil packs a heck of a withdrawal for many people. So it could be that. Someone on it for that long would usually taper off very slowly. It could also be that being on it that long has burned you out for ssris. Who knows?
