paxil

Avatar n tn Ive been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder recently and was prescribed pexeva which is a form of paxil. Ive been taking 20mg of this medication for 7 days now and the side effects are horrible. Constantly tired, unable to orgasm, and reserved personality. Im 25 and male and have never taken medication like this. How long do the side effects last or is going to continue?
299889 tn?1257339377 I have been on many different medications such as effexor, paxil, prestique and lastly pexeva. My doctor wants me to go on xanax plus a mood stabilizer pexeva which I have been on for 2 weeks. My anxiety is so bad I can't think straight and when I have tried to come off of a mood stabilizer before it has made me very ill. I know it is a big step, it is the only thing I haven't tried. I am 59 and need to get on my feet. Please give me opinions.
Avatar f tn I was recently hospitalized for a depression episode for 7 days and the psychiatrist I saw in the hospital who was the on-call psychiatrist took me off of my wellbutrin cold-turkey( I had been on it for 3 months) and took me off of 60mg of pexeva(paxil), that I had been on for a year, in 3 days.
Avatar m tn I've been on generic Paxil for about a year now. Things are usually fine. I recently had bad gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed. Being sick like that made me depressed and a little anxious at times. One week after the surgery, I had a bad case of my blood sugar dropping. I'm not diabetic, just have low blood sugar attacks, especailly right before my period. This brought on anxious feelings but was ok after a day or two. This was last month.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2 last year and after trying a million meds, my perfect cocktail was Pexeva 20 mg, Lithium 300 mg and Seroquel 300 mg. I was happier than I had ever been, but the Seroquel caused major weight gain and major sleepiness-I was falling asleeo at work. I went off Seroquel and tried Abilify and one other (cant remember) but they did not work. I am now backon Seroquel 300 miligrams along with my Lithium and Pexeva.
Avatar m tn Also, the only one SSRI who work in the past for my panic disorder is the Paxil... but hte Paxil do nothing for the social anxiety, like all the antidepressant meds I try... anyway, the main problem is that I try to be back on The Paxil at least 10 times in 2010 and wasn't able to tolerate more than 1 mg at the time... I had increase anxiety to the point that I had to go to the ER... So I don't know what do to?
422220 tn?1256764529 I got the MedHelp Newsletter a couple of days ago. Just glimpsed it...but it had a study done on a/d's. and placebo vs. real One of them was paxil...and it seemed to have the same effect on patients as the ones taking placebos....check it out, 'cause I am a bit foggy.
416625 tn?1203288998 I have struggeled on and off with depression/anxiety..but I am trying exercise/diet and suppliments. I have tried prozac YEARS ago...and Paxil....paxil made me a zombie....so I am trying everything else before the celexa....the psychiatrist said....I don't think SamE will work for you (I asked) and I really should try celexa.......I feel like they really push AD. anyway..
Avatar f tn Then went off. Then 10 years later I got a relapse anxiety and a friend told me about paxil. I stayed on it for 10 years. After gaining 40 lbs my dr suggested I go to zoloft. It worked for 2 years. Then it stopped. I was switched to lexipro. Worked fine for 1 year and got the symptoms back upping to 20 mgs did nothing. Now back on zoloft for 6 weeks 200 mgs I am starting to feel better.
Avatar f tn If the Paxil works, why would you want to get him off of it? SSRIs like Paxil do have costs vs. benefits, but if the benefits outweigh the costs, then why not stay on it? Does he want to get off of it? What does his doctor say? I initially had a hard time even considering taking a medication like Paxil because of all the horror stories that I had heard, but in reality they are very safe, effective and have been used by millions.
Avatar m tn I would talk to your pharmacist or doctor about the combination of paxil and buspar. Perhaps you can time when you are taking them better. As far as withdrawel, that is easily remedied with all ssri's. You titrate back down. If you were on 25 mg, you'd cut back by 5 or 10 mg over the course of a few weeks. With all ssri's---- never stop cold turkey. (but there isn't a big difference in 20 mg of paxil vs 25 . . .) I think 20 mg is the usual dose of paxil, however.
Avatar f tn t be as tired on Prozac and that it might help me better with anxiety. I chose against it. I asked for Paxil. I have read that Paxil is good for anxiety. My doc was willing to let me try Paxil so I left with a script for Paxil. I wonder if I should've tried the Prozac. I had a doc tell me once that Paxil causes significant weight gain. Should I have tried Prozac? I don't want to gain a bunch of weight or stay tired all day long.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried getting off Paxil slowly? I have gone from 20 mg to 15 to 10 and have now started 5 mg. This has taken me a year. I am now noticing that my anxiety is returning now that I am down to 5 mg. Has anyone gotten through this?
Avatar n tn I've been taking Paxil for 11 years now (I started at the age of 8 due to anxiety and panic attacks) and I desperately want to be free from this medication. I have trouble keeping friendships, relationships or just experiencing emotion all together. Growing up I've gone through periods without taking the pills, and although it was brief I was able to 'feel' what other people feel.
467977 tn?1262714747 t remember it ever making me jittery like you. It sounds like you may need MORE, not less, of the paxil. OR THE PAXIL doesnot agree with you. Many times a person has to try more than one med to get it right. I wouldn't combine the ativan with the klonopin. Hopefully Ryan or someone else will post regarding your medication issue.
1422233 tn?1282701102 I went to my doctor today because my anxiety is kind of bad again. He upped my dosage of Paxil from 40mg to 60mg & gave me a prescription for Klonopin. The Klonopin is only as needed but he had me take one tonight to see how it would affect me, that went fine. Now I am nervous about upping my dosage of Paxil tomorrow. I am going to take 40mg in the morning & 20mg in the afternoon, as that is what my Dr. suggested.
Avatar m tn How did you tackle cutting the small doses you were taking? I bought a scale that can measure out to a thousands of a gram but it's not repeatable and it's pretty hard to be accurate with such small amounts. I find it amazing that all these Doctors will prescribe these meds but none of them have a real good way to get patients off them.
341953 tn?1209481891 s is that you will probably have to try a few until you find one that works for you. I tried Lexapro, Paxil, and Cymbalta before I found the Prozac. The other thing about the SSRI's is that they take about a month to start working. I just go back on my Prozac and it is really helping me to stay on track and not go back to abusing pain killers. Most people that abuse opiates have a problem with anxiety, depression, or some other psychological disorder. I hope this helps you.
Avatar n tn Hi, do you have any idea what the difference is between Paxil and Pexeva? I understand they both are in the same class of drugs. What's scary is I've been taking 40 MG of Pexeva since July 2009 for panic attacks and my doctor has told me to wean off of it (from 40 to 30mg for 1 week, 20 mg for 1 week, then 10mg, then zero). So two questions; One: Is the "normal" amt of Pexeva at 40mg and the "normal" amt of Paxil at 10mg for the average person?
