Paxil vs celexa

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil vs celexa

paxil

416625 tn?1203288998 and Paxil....paxil made me a zombie....so I am trying everything else before the celexa....the psychiatrist said....I don't think SamE will work for you (I asked) and I really should try celexa.......I feel like they really push AD. anyway..
Avatar n tn It isn't true that Celexa isn't specific for anxiety. If it isn't, neither is Paxil, as both were approved as antidepressants. Nor is it true that Celexa and Lexapro are the same or that Lexapro is a better version of Celexa. They can have very different outcomes, and both can have side effects. Lexapro was originally advertised as having fewer side effects, but in use that is debatable.
Avatar f tn My Doctor is switching me from Paxil due to hypertension reasons as well as half life...to Celexa. How should I go about tapering off Paxil and getting on Celexa. I take 5mgs of Paxil twice a day. My Dr. has given me 10mg of Celexa..
Avatar f tn I think you made a good choice. Lexapro is literally the only SSRI I've taken that has not caused severe side effects. I have a very difficult time with drugs and this one was a godsend for me. (I've tried Celexa, Zoloft, Paxil, & Effexor.) I took the generic for a month and didn't notice any difference in it's effectiveness versus Lexapro.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone has input on which medication might work better with less side effects... between Paxil and Celexa. I've taken Paxil in the past, but I think my doctor said Celexa is newer and has less side effects. I'm not sure that I want to start taking anything, but part of me thinks I need it to help with my health anxiety and the obsessive thinking that goes with it... Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice!
Avatar f tn I took Celexa and gained I believe it was 35 pounds amongst other negative side effects. I don't recall tiredeness being one of them for me though. Prozac has been around for a long time and if I were to try a prescription SSRi again (which I hope not to), that would be it, as I don't think it's supposed to cause weight gain. It did cause constipation for me, but that was the main side effect I can remember I had.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with Celexa?
Avatar n tn I know of two instances - one person switched from Paxil to Celexa and a second person switched from Effexor to Celexa - neither had any side effects. By the way, there was no "tapering off" period used for either one of these two people - changed the following day to the new medication.
1618921 tn?1298822821 For the Celexa, if you are already on the Paxil, it will not be very dangerous to try it since your brain is already used to the extra serotonin level, you can switch from the Paxil to the Celexa without a washout period of time... you can try the Celexa for one day and see what happen? The Celexa and the Lexapro are apparently the easier SSRI's to take, they don't give a lot of side-effects.... BUT again everyone is different...
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if higher doses of Celexa (or any antidepressant for that matter) would in turn cause greater weight How do you find celexa with weight gain, is it bad?
Avatar f tn Try not to let negative thoughts overtake you! You have been on Paxil and it has helped you. If you need to switch meds YOU WILL NOT DIE even if you feel bad! Do not fear the possibility of having to get off Paxil. I switched from Paxil to Celexa, gradually cutting back on Paxil while upping Celexa. Didn't have any real problem but 1 month and 1/2 later felt suicidal and weird on the Celexa, so back on the Paxil I went.
Avatar n tn A friend of mine stopped Paxil and then started on Celexa without waiting for the entire withdrawl time. She, too, suffered from the same symptoms that you have listed. There are many other SSRI's (and Paxil fits into this category as does Celexa) that could be used which might be of more help to you.
Avatar f tn I believe I have this and 2 times in a row. I trusted my doctor and have been talking with him since this happened over a month ago. I was on paxil 12.5 mg and had stressful events occur and had break through non stop severe anxiety/panick disorder. He then tried to switch me over to lexapro which I was on paxil for 17 yrs and started having withdrawls I though and asked him to put me back on paxil. So he was not happy about it but he did. I seem to get a liottle better the first day I took 12.
Avatar n tn It could be both. The Celexa and Paxil may cause anxiety which could be triggering these tickling sensations in your body.
1618921 tn?1298822821 is it safe to take these two together to tapper off one and get onto another? I am really nervous about this since I have never done it. My therapist suggests I take 20mg of paxil and 10 celexa the first week (when I am currently on 20mg's a day) the second week 10mg paxil an 20mg celexa, the third week just celexa. I have tried to tapper off before from paxil... I went from 20mg to 10mg and it nearly killed me vomitting everyday, shackyness, couldnt get out of bed.
Avatar f tn Did you taper slowly off Paxil before switching to Celexa of just stop the Paxil and start the Celexa? Because if you did, you're describing Paxil withdrawal, not necessarily Celexa side effects. Not saying the Celexa would have worked, just asking because it's important to know which is which in case you have to make this choice again sometime.
Avatar f tn no, i went several months trying natural things like 5htp and omega oils. i do think it's much easier going from one antidepressant to another. i went from paxil to effexor with no problems, now i'm back on paxil. if you start the celexa then the withdrawal will probably go away. for me effexor was the worse antidepressant i've ever taken. if you take celexa i hope it works for you. take care.
467977 tn?1262714747 t remember it ever making me jittery like you. It sounds like you may need MORE, not less, of the paxil. OR THE PAXIL doesnot agree with you. Many times a person has to try more than one med to get it right. I wouldn't combine the ativan with the klonopin. Hopefully Ryan or someone else will post regarding your medication issue.
Avatar f tn 5mg of celexa and worked them up. My old pysc wrote me the RX for celexa in January and I never got brave enough to try it. He also mentioned trying elavil(which I took 5mg of 6 years ago for migraine prevention) I discussed it with my GP and she called me in the elavil and said I could try that or the 2.5mg of celexa to see what happens.
Avatar f tn I will say from my experience, I gained nothing on imipramine, 50 pounds on Paxil over several years, but only a little on Lexapro and Celexa. So you never know.
Avatar n tn BTW,Celexa, also has helped me with Panic Attacks. Don't know why, but it does. Personally, I much prefer Celexa to Zoloft...I say this only because my body "likes" Celexa better than Zoloft. (We all respond differently with these meds). I still get tired on Celexa though, but I guess I'll live w/ that for now.
2044839 tn?1331255841 So i recently had really bad side effects to Celexa im off the medicine my doctor decided to give me paxil for my panic disorder. Does anyone know if it will interact with me taking xanax? Im not really into all these anti depressents and xanax is the only thing that calms my body down. Well i just wanna know if there safe if i take them together?
