Common Questions and Answers about Paxil thyroid

paxil

Avatar f tn Can Paxil mask the problem? While I was on Paxil I did not have heart palpitations, racing heart, heat/cold sensitivity, weight loss, anxiety attacks, dizziness and nausea. Once I taper off (twice), the symptoms reappear. What gives? Thank you!
Avatar m tn Have you had your thyroid checked? thyroid disease can cause some of the same symptoms, and if it is the thyroid, taking paxil or any antidepressant is like putting on a bandaid. This is exactly what happened to me 19 years ago. And all it takes is a little lab work.
Avatar m tn My doctor put me on alprozolam for my panic disorder because I have been suffering from brain fog. He believes that my brain fog is the cause of the aneixty. I told him to do a thyroid check to rule out the thyriod, the blood tests came back normal. So basically my thyroid is not the cause for my brain fog. I need help I really dont know what else could cause this I wake up every morning feeling the same way i did yesterday.
Avatar m tn I also wake up sweating sometimes and i have had frequent urination.I take 20mg of paxil a day and 20mg of prilosec a day.I have been tested for all STD's, my lungs because i smoke,my liver,my pancreas,my thyroid, and had a endoscopy, but everything is normal.Do you think this could be all in my head or something more serious. Please advise.
Avatar f tn Depression sucks. I know the deep depression you are talking about. Remember it's your thyroid. I have Graves too and when my thyroid gets out of whack, I start getting really depressed. It's hard especially when you have no energy. That's why when I'm well and having a good time, I make a mental note to remember what a great time I'm having. It's definitely a roller coaster of emotions so I know I have to rely on logic so I don't get sucked into a black hole.
535882 tn?1396576685 I am on Lexapro because I got severe anxiety and depression because of my thyroid disorder. I have taken them in the past and they did help but they made me very moody and too mellow. My husband says I was like a zombie! I have been trying warm teas and herbal meds also exercise and writting. Good luck!
Avatar n tn i will talk with my doctor....................how long have you been on ad's?
Avatar f tn Adding an anti anxiety med as Paxil or others can also change the absorption level of your thyroid medication and it would require testing in two weeks to see if that had happened. It seems a bit shallow on your doctors part that he/she won't run a simple test prior to suggesting using another drug for anxiety.
Avatar f tn And does Paxil interact with Diazepam and does paxil interact with carbamazepine? Does carbamazepine interact with diazepam and vice versa? Please help! Write me back! I am a single mom of two small children who is scared that something will happen to me.
492307 tn?1214186739 This same effect has also been seen in patients receiving other selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors such as Paxil (paroxetine) and Prozac (fluoxetine). If you are on an antidepressant or thyroid hormone and your doctor wants to prescribe the other, be sure to discuss these issues.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
Avatar m tn I am 47 and was in great health/shape until 2 months ago, and now I'm a mess.. I'm trying to connect it all and find lots of 'similar' posts, but still having trouble connecting it all. Hope y'all can assist. Background: - developed Acute Pyelonephritis 6 weeks ago - ecoli kidney infection - 5 days inpatient with multiple IV antibiotics, fluids, and nutrients (K, Mg, etc.
Avatar m tn It's hard to comment without seeing actual lab numbers. Perhaps you could call your doctor's office and ask for your lab report. I was wondering if your doctor had suggested thyroid meds.
Avatar f tn Hi, my husband thought he was suffering from depression, the doctor put him on paxil, he's been on it for about 4 months now, he thought it was working, but now he says he doesn't even think its depression its more anxiety. He grinds his teeth at night and for the kongest time has never slept a full night, he is up like every hour! what do you guys think it is and what meds can he take for anxiety, please help!
Avatar f tn Hey, I have not taken Effexor but was on Paxil for about 9 months and after several cold turkey Paxil quits and throwing a week or so of Lexapro and a couple weeks of Zoloft in on the mix I am finally about 3 months off of EVERYTHING and still most definitely a mess!! Lots of dizzy spells, jittery still and have this weird inner vibration thing that is quite annoying!! I have seen my doc and had normal bloodwork, thyroid check and MRI but she still won't own up to it being from Paxil....
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil CR for 2 years now, and my highest dosage was 37.5 mg about 5 or 6 months ago. Over the past 6 months I have SLOWLY been reducing my dosage as I feel Paxil CR has not been the right drug for me. I would reduce the dosage about every month and a half. About 1.5 months ago, I reduced my dosage from 12.5 mg to 6 mg. Around this time, I started having EXTREME fatigue and chronic, unbearable nausea. I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy but both were completely normal.
Avatar n tn It looks like i just steeped out of the shower i can ring the water from my hair my face gets flushed but if i sit down i cool off and then i am ok. I have had thyroid blood tests 3 times 2 times were normal 1 time was abnormal. I asked my doctor and he says its the antidepressent paxil I am taking, so I am weaning off of it to see if this helps. My hands do tremble slightly and i do get panic attacks and am nervous. No chest pains. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I'm guessing, though I don't know, that you're seeing a general practitioner, not a psychiatrist. First mistake. Second mistake, not completing your taper off Paxil, as slowly as you need to do it even if it takes a year, which it probably won't, before you try a different medication. No two meds work the same, and they don't substitute for one another.
Avatar m tn I was recently dx'ed with type 2 bipolar disorder and, am now on 20mgs of paxil and, 100mgs of lamictal. It has help the suicide feelings I was having, but am still very depressed at night. I have alot of medical issues besides this and, know this is part of the reason for the depression. Is there anythign else I can try to ease up on the depression. I am going to a psychiatrist for meds and will have my first session with a psycologist next week. What else can I do?
Avatar f tn I have gained about 30 lbs without real cause, and I cannot lose the weight despite good old eating healthfully and exercise. I mean walking 4 miles per day. Recent CBC showed no thyroid issues, sugar is ok, etc. What could it be? Doc thinks Lexapro made me gain, could it also be the reason I can't lose?? Thank you!
Avatar f tn It was suggested to me that I not take an ssri (Paxil) with PTU. Would anyone know why that is.
Avatar f tn Thyroid problems, pituitary problems and so
Avatar f tn I just recently went to a psychiatrist who diagnosed me with OCD and panic disorder and put me on Paxil. As a routine, they always check TSH for new patients. I haven't went back to the doctor yet but I got my test results. TSH 6.85 and cholesterol 204. They did not check my T3/T4. I have been very tired lately and I am wondering if maybe my anxiety and high cholesterol is connected to my thyroid? Should I be concerned about this and should I mention it to my doctor?
1432824 tn?1283383088 I have been on Paxil and Risperdal for years and both have worked well for me. In the past few months I have been experiencing other health issues..I have a hypothyroid and my period came and then never went away. I have been working closely with my OB/GYN to fix this problem. Last monday I had a DNC and they administered a Depo-Provera shot to get the bleeding under control.
953067 tn?1248394508 You might want to go over to the thyroid forum for some help. The thyroid can cause every symptom you describe, so if you know it's off, getting on antidepressants and antianxiety drugs won't solve anything, only getting your thyroid right will. And realize that doctors are idiots. Very poorly educated, and insurance doesn't allow them to spend enough time with you.
Avatar f tn Greetings Nootie (and board) I've been absent here for sometime, battling my own hepatic (and related, unrelated health demons)... Forgive me... It is my opinion, that many drugs (and environmental toxins, preservatives, western diets, etc) can contribute over both the short and long duration of exposure, towards hepatic problems. Both my brother and I have taken SSRI antidepressants for a long time, and we both have fatty liver and other issues.
Avatar f tn Supposedly excessive or an accumulation of fluoride over the years can impair iodine absorption, leading to thyroid issues. Someone had mentioned in a previous post about being on Paxil for 3 years and experiencing dramatic weight gain. Well, from what I've researched one of the key ingredients in Paxil (and other SSRIs) is FLUORIDE!
