Common Questions and Answers about Paxil stories

paxil

324184 tn?1308076203 Hello all! I have been on zoloft for over a year and it seems as though my body has become immune to it and it's no longer working for me. My dr has switched me to Paxil and I know from experience (but did it anyways b/c I couldn't resist) that you shouldn't necessarily pay attention to the horror stories that you find online... b/c everyone is different, but I would like some feedback.
Avatar f tn There are so many horror stories out there. Has anyone ever stopped taking paxil successfully?
Avatar m tn Nobody can answer this for you, since people have very different experiences. You might have a very easy time of it, who knows? As for the comment that withdrawal lasts longer if you taper, that's not at all true. Tapering is the recommended method of going off these meds, and consequences can be protracted if you don't, though most will be lucky and not have that happen.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.
Avatar f tn I would love to hear from people who have been on paxil for panic attacks and anxiety! GOOD or BAD stories please!!
Avatar n tn Paxil and Lexapro was about the only 2 I could really tolerate and that worked. I had pretty good success on it and was on for 3 years at one point. I liked it-but you have to really give it a good 3 months for your body to adjust to it if your sensitive and to ride out some of the side effects. It made me a little more sweaty and a little increase in anxiety but helped greatly with motivation, ocd, and social anxiety.
Avatar f tn Try not to let negative thoughts overtake you! You have been on Paxil and it has helped you. If you need to switch meds YOU WILL NOT DIE even if you feel bad! Do not fear the possibility of having to get off Paxil. I switched from Paxil to Celexa, gradually cutting back on Paxil while upping Celexa. Didn't have any real problem but 1 month and 1/2 later felt suicidal and weird on the Celexa, so back on the Paxil I went.
1550654 tn?1294747554 well...here's the deal. for some, paxil works wonderfully for some...however, it does tend to be one of the harder SSRI's to w/d from should that time ever come. i have heard many horror stories of w/d'ing from paxil. however, most of these have been in the anxiety community where its members are prone to extreme anxiety in the first place. in addition, it's hard to know exactly what percentage of people d/c this drug with no problems at all.
Avatar f tn and I begin obsessively reading about the thousands of Paxil withdrawal horror stories that are out here on the web. Websites like paxilprogress.org and quitpaxil.org are full of people that have tried to quit or are in the process of weaning off of this drug, and they are all going through absolute hell. It really scares me. It's an odd feeling when you realize that you are afraid of the very thing that has helped you for so many years. I guess my question to you is this.
Avatar f tn My Mom has a script for Paxil... I know it's an antideppresant.. but does anyone out there that has been on it have any good or bad info on it's effectiveness for treating depression...??? She is in end stage COPD and also CHF and says she sometimes gets very depressed... (heck,.... I would too if I couldn't breath or move around much) Just wondering if anyone out there has any thing good to say about it....or bad....
4981427 tn?1371670469 The thing that is scaring me is if I Gain weight and then want to go off , all the horror stories of withdrawling from Paxil , freak me out.. My doc said he would just wean me off ever so slightly... That would avoid withdrawal right?
Avatar n tn i had to wean off paxil before i got pregnant. the doctor said for every year you r on paxil then thats how many months it takes to wean off safely and without any withdrawls. so i was on paxil for three yrs and it took three months to wean and i was fine. he also gave me clonapin to help during that pocess cuz he dsaid i would have ups and down while weaning. you've been on it for 7 yrs so it should take you 7 months to wean. you wean too fast.....you go through hell.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was going to take Paxil for OCD and anxiety on HIV. How helpful is it? what are the side effects?
1512520 tn?1290258130 I was on on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 years, it worked well for the most part, did not gain any weight but it was ineffective for my anxiety and was not working as much for depression near the end. I started Paxil CR 12.5 mg for 6 months (second time I m trying Paxil), I felt great but 25 lbs crept on and it has made me severely depressed. I am now off Paxil for 1.5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either.
Avatar m tn I have been on Paxil for a few years now after Lexapro stopped working. I now have no insurance and have stopped taking Paxil 30mg daily. I feel like ****, jittery, disorriented, vertigo, etc. I know what its from so I try not to let it get in my head. I've heard stories of seizures from stopping like this. Is this possible. I am very aggitated and go off easily. I'm trying to issolate myself so I dont go off on anyone for no reason.
4981427 tn?1371670469 t know how long you were on Zoloft, it might have been just a very short time, in which case the above might not apply. And by the way, the horror stories about Paxil are when you try to stop taking it, not while you're taking it -- that's very individual.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
1422233 tn?1282701102 This question could also qualify as a depression one so I hope it's ok to post it here. I'm a 22 year old female & have anxiety, depression, & OCD. I have been on Paxil (the generic brand) for about three years now. A couple of weeks ago I started to feel like it wasn't working for me anymore. I can feel the anxiety & I get down. It's not as bad as before I was on the Paxil, but I think I need a change. I have a Doctors' appointment this week.
Avatar f tn I initially had a hard time even considering taking a medication like Paxil because of all the horror stories that I had heard, but in reality they are very safe, effective and have been used by millions. There have been even studies done that they might have some long term benefits now as well. Many medications can affect peoples liver to include statins, bp meds, etc, but for me the question is, would I be better off on it than off of it?
Avatar n tn I have heard horror stories about stopping Paxil and even got a warning from my pharmacist about how hard it is to get off Paxil, even though she told me that since Prozac is in a similar "family" of medication the switch should be ok. Oh, I'm babbling now. I just wanted to let you know that everything seems good so far - fingers crossed!
Avatar n tn I believe originally for mood imbalance. Anyway, I weened myself off paxil and started having some nasty anxiety. That was 2 months ago. After feeling horribly depressed, lethargic, EXTREME fatigue, dizzy, panic attacks, inability to concentrate, and what can best be described as brain fog. I tried going back on paxil but it was not effective. I started seeing a therapist and psyc.
Avatar n tn I have HEP C & currently take 20mg. of Paxil (for several years) and find that it's no longer working very well /not working at all. It's also not great for the liver. I need to be on an antidepressant - but one that's safer than Paxil, if such a drug exists. Every search I've performed leads to long, convoluted stories. I just need an answer or suggestions. Not SAM-e. Is anyone taking an antidepressant that's easy(ier) on the liver? Any info. would be a great help.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
15927132 tn?1444239329 Then added on was klonopin 1mg, which has given me vivid dreams and total lack of emotions. Paxil was also prescribes but after 7 months discontinued after I noticed worsening depression as well as a constant who gives a sh*T mentality. Any success stories on discontinuing these specific meds?
Avatar f tn Because of the length of time you've been on Paxil, yes, it will probably be difficult to quit this med. I'm one of the horror stores who never recovered from my withdrawal. But most of us who have suffered greatly had lousy psychiatrists, which is why so many had to turn to the web. A good psychiatrist will know how to taper you off slowly and put you back on it if it gets too bad. Most people make it off after a bad few weeks, some have not problem at all, and some never make it.
763297 tn?1281379425 In fact I used paxil to quit smoking. Xanax and paxil together may be your issue. Check with your pharmacist about the combination of them together. I take paxil at night before I go to bed. The tiredness was bad in the beginning but not so much now. I have noticed when I forgot to take a pill or two, the anger and edginess would show up. If going off of these, you must do it slowly. And with the help of a physician or you will be in wd's in a few days, as you know.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil for 8 months. I was only using 10mg because I am very sensitive to medications. I took myself off the medication recently by taking 5mg for two weeks and I have been off it completely for 1 week. Since going off the medication my anxiety has returned but is managable. The problem I am having is with the dizziness that I am having. Super, super dizzy. I sometimes feel this way when my blood sugar is low but it will not go away when I eat.
