What you should do is, if you just started the wellbutrin, stop it, go back on the Paxil, and taper off slowly, as slowly as it takes because you aren't anyone else. What you have are classic Paxil withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn It's hard to say WHY you had panic attacks. It could have been part of a discontinuation symptom from d/c'ing the Paxil (like a w/d), because while you were started on a new med (Zoloft) while coming off the Paxil, they aren't identical in their mechanism of action, and you could still experience some w/d. Paxil is notoriously hard to come off of. What was the dose you were at when you stopped taking it and what was the dose of Zoloft?
1458799 tn?1328757528 Pharmacodynamics Bupropion is a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, and does not inhibit monoamine oxidase or the re-uptake of serotonin. While the mechanism of action of bupropion, as with other antidepressants, is unknown, it is presumed that this action is mediated by noradrenergic and/or dopaminergic mechanisms." Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar m tn The Zoloft dose seems to be pretty close to the Paxil dose, although due to all of these meds varying in mechanism of action, it is impossible to find a perfect dose to start at with the new med....for each individual person. I think breaking up the Zoloft dose like he did will be helpful to you as well. There is no way we would be able to tell you what dose your doctor will Rx you, that is something you need to discuss with him.
Avatar f tn My PERSONAL opinion, based on my knowledge, is that a gradual taper down of the first med, along with a gradual step UP of the new med works well, simply because, even though two meds are in the same class, their mechanism of action actually differs quite significantly from one med to another. They are not "interchangable". However, that being said, a lot of docs will transition patients like yours is doing, and they do just fine.
527657 tn?1214051850 I have been on Paxil for 6 years and have gained 40 lbs. I am young, healthy and very active. I do not have a sweet tooth - I do not eat desserts, despise chocolate and anything sweet. I never pig out on junk food. I exercise and run and chase around my 4 young sons. NOTHING has taken off my weight. I have joined Weight Watchers and tried Slim Fast, and the Atkins diet. All to no avail. I have dropped to eating only 1300 calories a day and still the weight stays the same on the scale.

Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of Campral® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar f tn The half-life of Klonopin is 50 hours, duration of action is 12 hours for as-needed use, 12-18 hours for single daily use, and 18 hours for twice daily dosing. Paxil targets 5-HT (serotonin) receptor sites, and nine months was a prolonged period of use. Ideally, the Paxil should've been withdrawn very gradually. Of the SSRI's, Paxil carries the highest risk of withdrawal phenomena. Reports indicate that it may be severe.
Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.

Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.

Avatar n tn Paxil is known to pack a wallop of a withdrawal, and many of your reported symptoms sound more like Paxil withdrawal than klonopin withdrawal. Klonopin withdrawal packs quite a wallop as well, and is usually gone off of the same way as other addictive drugs -- slowly and carefully, as abrupt quitting can also lead to seizures as this is also an anti-seizure medication.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar n tn That's a very high dosage of Paxil... even at a low dose of Paxil you have to be slowly tapered off of it... The half life is very short. 12 years ago there was a class action lawsuit do to the impossibility of getting off it without withdrawals that actually killed a few people. Please see a good psychiatrist to help you with this. There is a website on Paxil tapering... It may take a year but you have to see a doctor who knows about Paxil and ssri wd, not all drs are knowledgable in this.

Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar f tn All ADs in the same class work quite a bit differently in their mechanism of action. Effexor (an SNRI as mentioned above) is also a tough one to get off, compared to other ADs. Lexapro, Zoloft, Celexa and Prozac are typically the easier tolerated ADs (again, everyone is different).
574118 tn?1305135284 For instance seroquel is 25mg is enough for me and active. My lamictal was 2mg infantile and was working well until i had seizure with paxil. Could this apply to lithium as well, i.e.

Avatar m tn s all about the cheapest thing, not the best. Sedation is a very common side effect of Paxil -- I had it big time when I started the drug -- so it could also be this drug is being metabolized by you better than your former generic.
