I have yet to try Effexor but I have read from most that the withdrawals are worse than those of Paxil (which I have gone through several times). If really do feel bad, have your doctor prescribe you a slower taper. His/her taper seems pretty quick, especially for Effexor. Perhaps switching to Prozac first would help. Best of luck.

Depression especially, can be a life long issue, it can be a chemical imbalance, it's absolutely nothing you did wrong. The most important thing is that you get stable. Usually, but not always, the anxiety drops when the depression is lifted. I do recommend you get counselling and get hooked up with a psychiatrist if you haven't already done so. Finding the right course of meds takes a bit, but you can feel better.

I take Paxil and buspar on a daily basis. I used to only take the paxil, but I still had terrible anxiety in the morning. My doctor then added the buspar 2x a day. It helped me almost immediately. It took away that horrible nausea and anxiety by 90 % in the morning. Some people say that buspar isn't effective, but it has been very effective for me. I take Klonopin only on an as needed basis. s a very tough drug to stop taking for most people. I will tell you I was on clonazepam and Paxil at the same time for years, but the Paxil was way more effective than the clonazepam. What may have happened is new challenges may have arisen in your life -- drugs don't cure anything, they just mitigate the symptoms but new challenges can override the effect.

Yea, Paxil is a bad one for weight gain. Fair warning... If any doctor tries to put you on Remeron and weight is a concern for you then SAY NO WAY. I have been on both at differnt times in the past. You want to talk about weight gain? OMG! Remeron makes Paxil look like a diet pill! Taking Remeron is like wanting to be fat.

Getting off Paxil (if needed) is really no worse that stopping any other antidepressant. Paxil is the one SSRI that people report the most weight gain with. This doesn't mean you will gain weight on Paxil. Everyone is different, but yes Paxil is notorious for weight gain side effects.
