Paxil for sleep

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil for sleep

paxil

993545 tn?1249456679 Before or after the medication? Antidepressants can interfere with sleep for the first few months you are on them. I would ask your doc for Vistaril to help you get to sleep earlier. It usually kicks in around an hour and you'll feel really sleepy and usually stay asleep for a while. Anxiety is usually worse after waking up. It can even surface after taking a short nap. I have heard that our Cortisol levels are worse in the morning.
774736 tn?1311331385 I was diagnosed with GAD earlier this year and have gone through horrific panic attacks, agoraphobia, and many other anxiety related nightmares but lately Ive been struggling with sleep deprivation...Every day for the past couple months I have not been able to sleep at a reasonable hour...I have to completely exaust myself to finally get to sleep and before I do, I go through a period of feeling "under the influence", as if im drunk or high...
Avatar f tn I have been on Paxil for 10 years my Dr. that had been working with me retired I ran out of refills so I thought I would just stop taking it. It has been 4 months know but I am not able to sleep having bad hot flashes should I try and find a Dr. and go back on it? My biggest concern is I can't sleep will this get better in time? I'm just feel lost and not sure what the right answer is there any thing you can advise for me I really just want to get a good night sleep.
Avatar f tn I have been on Paxil for over 6 years. Almost off of it and then went back up in dose only to have it not work for me. Started having weird side effects at 40mgs and started tapering down to get off it. Down to 7.5mgs after many months of hell! I have one Dr who wants me to take Klonopin and add lexapro to my paxil, titrating one up and one down till I am off Paxil.
Avatar f tn I have been on paxil for ten years and the last year and a half it has not worked like it use to. So my doctor started weaning me off paxil 50mg to 40mg for a week then 30mg for three days then 20mg of paxil at night with 25mg of zoloft also at night.I seen the doctor again today and now Im taking 50 mg of zoloft in the morning and 20mg of paxil at night. The reson that I have been on ssri"s is for terrible panic attacks with agoraphobia.
358304 tn?1409709492 m just trying the .5mg of klonopin before bed for now. May have to take the Paxil for a while. Sometimes I feel like maybe the lightheadedness/off balance feeling was real at one point, and what if now it's all psychological? What if I've made myself believe I'm constantly off balance? Crazy what the mind can do. God Bless.
Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
358304 tn?1409709492 I took 2 ativan lastnight and I finally calmed down and fell asleep, but it wasnt a good sleep, had bad nightmares.... my throat has felt tight like this now for 2 weeks... and its worse when I'm stressed... and its worse when I'm having sinus drainage. He said it's just anxiety, and I should NOT WORRY about it being cancer or anything else. He said I have to ACCEPT IT as anxiety and it will help some. I hope I get to feeling better soon. He's such a good Dr.
358304 tn?1409709492 The Paxil shouldn't be a problem after just 15 days. The klonopin, however, if you've been taking it for awhile, might be difficult. I'd go off just one at a time, if it were me. I'd also see if you could find something to help you sleep besides a benzo. They really aren't sleep medicine, they're addictive anti-anxiety meds for severe anxiety. I know sleep is hard with anxiety (tell me about it!), but I would never personally use a benzo for sleep purposes.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comments. I don't believe the Paxil is working for my depression anymore. Not sure if it's causing my sleep issues. I need to see my doctor and discuss all of this with her.
Avatar f tn Sleep study also showed no REM sleep. I take paxil for anxiety, wellbutrin for mood and energy, and clonidine. Sleep doc wants me off paxil b/c of its effect on REM sleep. Could I take trazodone for anxiety with the wellbutrin? Or something else for anxiety that doesn't affect rem sleep?
Avatar n tn I have been on a .20mg dose of Paxil, for the first month and now on a .30 dose of Paxil for the next three months. I have experienced many of the same side effects as everyone else has mentioned on this Site. Although there was some initial success after the first 2 1/2 weeks, now the progress is spotty at best after two months. I find I can read text books and technical reading materials but find working on the computer still frustrating. (I wear glasses and am very nearsighted).
382594 tn?1266610613 Has anyone on Paxil experienced night sweats? I've been taking Paxil for about a month and 1/2 10mg a day and in the past week I've woken up drenched. Any input on this? Thanks!
Avatar f tn 1. is it normal for these symptoms to get worse (I have not eaten or slept pretty much and have lost 10 pounds and have crazy anxious thoughts) 2. what is the proper way to taper back to paxil? 3. How unsafe is paxil with pregnancy and what other options do I have? HELP! I feel like I am losing my mind!!!!
Avatar n tn I have a good friend who has been on Paxil for years and she takes a Klonopin every night for sleep. Ask your doc if you can try something else. Let me know how you are doing. I hated that not being able to sleep feeling.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me effexor because I suffer from extreme irritably, mood swings and become very anxious. So anxious that at times I can't go to sleep or if I go to sleep I wake up in the middle of the night. I was only taking the effexor for a few months and then I stopped because my family scared me into thinking that I would never be able to get off of it. While I was taking it I was so relaxed and I slept through out the night. I loved it. When I stopped nothing happened.
Avatar f tn I was just prescribed Paxil 20 mg a day (take at night) for OCD, Anxiety, PTSD etc. I have only been on it for 3 days. I have been ready more bad than good about the side effects; particularly the weight gain and the withdrawal symptoms. I will stop taking this medicine ASAP if I can a couple of lbs. Does anyone have any positive things to say about Paxil or any other anti-depressant. The doctor told me I may gain 1 lb in a yr.
Avatar f tn What medication can I speak to my Dr. about to help me with chronic fatigue? I was prescribed a "starting dose" of Paxil 10 mgs 7 days ago for severe depression, and .5mg Xanax 3x a day for anxiety as needed. Pretty much only using the Xanax at night if i have trouble sleeping because during the day it makes me too sleepy.
1423357 tn?1511085442 s call it a medium dose. Pervious to Effexor, she had been on Paxil for many years to help with anxiety. She found it very effective. In 2007, a routine mammogram discovered Ductal Carcinoma In Situ in its very early stages. She had a lumpectomy, followed by radiation therapy, and began 5 year drug treatment of Tamoxifen. Shortly after starting the Tamoxifen, it was discovered that Paxil (and I guess any SSRI) greatly reduced the effectiveness of Tamoxifen.
Avatar f tn never expect a strong med intended to treat the brain to help you sleep! Now, if you want a strong med for sleep, then take one designed to do that, like Ambien.
Avatar m tn I wouldn't do it personally, and certainly not without a psychiatrist's okay, but I'm not as positive on the ability of psychiatrists as the above post, so there's that. I also don't think using benzos for sleep is the best idea. Also, why paxil? Have you tried other antidepressants first? Just asking.
Avatar m tn Wondering if anyone has dealt with long term paxil withdrawal symptoms. Came off of paxil - tapered down to 10mg from 40 mg before stopping. This was the plan from the doc, and I didn't realize at the time what a beast paxil can be and that sometimes you can taper down with the liquid version super slowly. Also took 20mg prozac as a bridge to help with withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I've been on Paxil for 2 years, diagnosed with hypothyroidism 1 yr ago... Long story short, I'm trying to get off Paxil now, hoping that my depression was caused by thyroid. I weaned myself (doctor approved) down to 10 mg, doc said I should be fine to stop taking it... Now I am having SEVERE headaches and nausea. I don't want to get back on this med, and would prefer to suffer through withdrawals, however it's very difficult to function when I'm feeling this way.
Avatar f tn Was on Paxil for many years... weaned myself off of it gradually 6 mo's ago... Now back on... only 10 mg so far... lorazepam takes the edge off, but makes me sleepy, dizzy too... not good during the day... Take a lot of heart medication too: atenolol, lisinopril, niacin & statins for cholesterol - - all of these latter medications I tolerate well, and have for many years.... anyone know details about the "one move" technique?
550027 tn?1215767264 Forgot about exercise and rest (oxymoron that. lol) Walk if you can just to move the body and sleep when you can for as long as you can...it is the main ingredient in natural healing. How ya doing this fine 4th? The fireworks are really bothering me. Sounds too much like guns some of them - jump right outta my skin, even though I know they are going on...I still jump.
