Common Questions and Answers about Paxil cr withdrawal side effects

paxil

Avatar n tn re stuck between what may be side effects of a new med and withdrawal from an old one. Better to complete withdrawal from Paxil first. Read a book called The Antidepressant Solution by Joseph Glanville, and get a psychiatrist who knows about these things. Good luck.
Avatar f tn t tell which problems are withdrawal from the first med and which are side effects of the new med. By the way, Paxil is notorious for weight gain -- I gained a lot of weight on it. What you need is a good psychiatrist, as it sounds like you're trying to do this with a general practitioner.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar m tn I quit paxil almost two weeks ago. I have the classic symptoms. Flu like feeling, ringing in my ears ,Anxiety Cold @ hot flashes.I took 2- 25mg tabs cr daily for 5 years. I stopped taking the 25mg tab @ night & continued with the other 25mg tab for about a week then quit. Now I know I have to gradually stop. 3days ago I couldn't handle it anymore. I talked to a pharmasist@ she said To continue with the 2 tabs again @After a month gradually lower the dosage.
Avatar n tn The more gradual the step down process, the more mild any side effects will be. And, Paxil, unfortunately is one of the meds that is a bit more problematic when it comes with withdrawal symptoms. I agree that you need to get with your doc, explain where you are and move forward with a new plan, guided by your doctor. You will feel better eventually, and probably quicker after you get on a reasonable taper plan.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.
Avatar f tn I have been weaning off Paxil from Paxil CR 25 mg, now on Paxil 10 mg (to avoid withdrawal) because I have been on for probably 10 years now. Unfortunately, after about 3 weeks on the lower dose I feel my lack of motivation, melancholy feelings, being less able to handle frustration with work etc all coming back. I really do not want to go back up on my dose of Paxil since it has such severe withdrawal effects if I ever go off it again.
Avatar n tn I have discontinued Paxil 25 mg CR for 12 days now for family planning purposes. I was taking it for generalized anxiety disorder. I am under the care of my phychiatrist and OB Gyn. He suggested I taper off, but I chose the cold turkey route. I have done my research on the internet on withdrawl effects and I have just about experienced them all. From hot/ cold nightsweats, fatigue, diarrea, flu-like symptoms, nausea, dizziness, headaches, and shakiness.
10361664 tn?1409609407 This is my opinion, but this isn't a good idea. Paxil is very hard to quit taking and needs to be tapered off of slowly, but it's best to do this before starting a new medication. Zoloft cannot substitute for Paxil, as they're very different in the receptors they target and Paxil is one unique drug.
Avatar f tn However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar n tn I just switched from Paxil to Zoloft after being on Paxil for 5 years. I am having severe nausea, but no ther side effects. Has this happened to anyone else?
Avatar f tn t tell which symptoms are side effects of the new drug and which are withdrawal effects of the old. So in my opinion, the best way to do it is to stop the first drug completely and successfully before starting another med. After all, there's no guarantee another med will work, we all react differently, and this is particularly true after taking Paxil. When you've been on this med for a long time it usually takes a long time to get off it.
Avatar m tn I also take Paxil for a sleep disorder (depression-related insomnia) and have for 11+ years. It works wonderously, but I gained 30+ lbs when I started the medication and have tried for years to lose it, unsuccessfully. I will lose some weight - and believe me, it takes an enormous amount of exercise and effort - but inevitably gain it back because Paxil makes my appetite so strong.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar n tn Im finally off paxil thank the good lord the weight gain was unbearable.
Avatar f tn I was recently on paxil for anxiety until I realized all of the side effects that I was getting including gaining weight. I talked to my doctor and he said I could wean myself off. I was taking 20 mg. He said 10 mg for 2 weeks and then 5mg for 2 weeks, after start wellbutrin. However, I didn't make it that far. Just by one week of going Down to 10 mg I was vomiting, running to the bathroom. Nervousness, dizzy, brain zap and a fuzzy feeling in my head, sweating, VERY emotional.
Avatar n tn t start to bother me until one day without the caffiene. Is it a cooincidence? Are my symptoms from the caffiene withdrawal, Paxil CR withdrawal, or both? I was taking 37 mg daily. I have an appointment tomorrow with my OBGYN, I am affraid to tell my Dr. that I quit cold turkey against his advice, but I don't like how I feel. What should I do?
983155 tn?1248700406 re in Paxil withdrawal and, because you started another drug at the same time that has a completely different mechanism of action, you have the side effects of starting another drug that may not even be an appropriate substitute for Paxil. What you should do is, if you just started the wellbutrin, stop it, go back on the Paxil, and taper off slowly, as slowly as it takes because you aren't anyone else. What you have are classic Paxil withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I started out taking 20 mg of paxil and ended up on 40 mg of paxil CR. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse.
Avatar m tn Does anyone else have HORRIBLE nausea from taking Paxil CR? I am on 25 mgs. and it is helping greatly with the depression. BUT the nausea is insane. I take it at bedtime with a snack and I am sick for half of the next day. Ginger tea, gingerale, Coke, oatmeal. Totally bland diet. It is one heck of a diet plan. Please help.
Avatar n tn s what will continue to happen. Has anyone had these side effects that are ongoing when you take Prestiq? Also, how do you recommend weaning off the medication. In the past, I had taken Effexor and had to wean off by breaking open the capsule and decreasing the grains. Thanks for any suggestions.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I have been on Paxil Cr for a few years. 25 mg. It has worked really well for my panic attacks but recently I lost insurance and won't be eligible for medicare for 8 months so I ordered my prescription from online pharmacy which I have done before with no problem. Since I was low on my meds and didn't want to run out before it got here I reduced dosage. Took 1/2 pill every other day only problem I had was balance issues which got better after a week.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Paxil CR 12.5 mg for approximately 6 years now. This is NOT something I want to continue. I have been trying to come off of them slowly...for the past week I have been taking them once every other day oppose to once every day. I was doing fine until the 7th day! I am experiencing severe dizziness, extremely bad headaches (which I have never had before), nausea...bad dreams throughout the night. WHAT DO I DO??? Should I continue to do every other day...
Avatar n tn I am cutting my 30 mg pills into 20 mg pieces but not I am going back to the beginning side effects of Paxil where I cannot sleep at all. I now have to take Nyquil to sleep because I constantly toss and turn throught the night. It helps me to hear that I am not alone in my struggles do if you want to talk or just comment please feel free.
Avatar f tn One of the reasons for this is that Paxil is just stronger than any other antidepressant in its affinity for both choline and serotonin receptors. Paxil was the first drug to be exposed for lying about its withdrawal effects, and it's the reason there is a black box warning on all antidepressants now advising a slow taper off the drug, as required by the FDA. Paxil has more walking wounded around than any other drug, although Effexor certainly is nearly as bad.
