5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either. I need to go back on Paxil but need to find a way to battle the weight gain. I have heard combining Wellbutrin can help with maintaining but I have read more success stories with Topamax.

the depression i feel from gaining so much weight or the reasons i started taking paxil in the first place. once i am off of paxil i will never tak it again. i am weening myself slowly.

Hi Lori, I just wanted to say I am on this journey with you. I've been on Lexapro for five years (with the ocassional break). I have acute chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I've been weaning off 20 mg of Lexapro. I too am beginning to experience some of the symptoms that reveal my anxiety disorder. I cannot do SSRI's anymore - I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, both left me with weight gain (which dropped off quickly), and a complete loss of creativity.

thanks to you for your insight. I ended up switching from Paxil CR 25 to Paxil 20 (gneric),which surprisingly my insurance pays for. I made the switch today with no adverse things happening, although I know it could be delayed. The goal at this point is to taper off the paxil 20, then get onto prozac. Although maybe I will just stay on the paxil if it keeps going well. The Paxil Cr has been great for me, but inusrance doesn't pay any of it, not even for generic.

I have taken paxil CR 12.5 for 6 years. I am preparing myself to become a mom. I am very afraid from suffering the horrible withdrawls if I quit paxil. My doctor says that it's better to be on prozac during pregnancy. Can someone tell me where to find acurate research? I don't want to harm my baby but at the same I am super afraid of the withdrawls.

My big question is when are the doctors going to stop telling everyone that they do not gain weight on antidepressants, I have been on lexapro now for 2 yrs, and have gained 25 lbs, I watch what I eat exercise, dance, etc... and the weight will NOT come off. My doctor tells me well you are are at the age of premenopause and at that age, that you are going to gain weight, well I am getting tired of hearing it.

Some people complain about weight gain while on SSRIs like Paxil and others even complain about weight loss. What has been really helpful for me is ensuring that I watch what I eat and exercise regularly. Sabrina, yes paxil,like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.

I've been anxious for at least the past two, maybe three months. The physical symptoms started about a month ago -- I've had tingling in my arms, legs and sometimes head, fatigue, weakness and minor headaches. I went to my doctor today and she seems to really think it's anxiety, but I'm just waiting on the blood work results. But I've also noticed some weight loss, particularly in my legs.

Doc prescribed Aropax CR 25 (paxil) he said there was no need to wean off the cilift - weight steadily increased - Doc said impossible!!!?? I asked to change to Prozac (Nuzak - south africa) Again he said I could go straight from the one to the other! Been on Nuzak for about 10 days and not feeling nice. Very emotional - dizzy - nightmares and un-necessary anger. My question - do I stick it out on the Nuzak (for the weight issues) or go back to Paxil or in fact back to Cilift?

Of course, that is what also makes them devilishly difficult to ever stop taking. As to Paxil and weight gain, I gained a lot on it, but others gain a lot on other meds and none on Paxil -- that is very individual.

Gained 50 pounds on Paxil, lost most when I went off but only because withdrawal drove me so crazy I couldn't eat. Now on Lexapro, gaining weight again. I was wondering, at what dosage did you notice a gain or loss of weight? I've read about people either gaining or losing weight, but no one says what dosage they're on. I'm taking 25mg right now and the doc and I were talking of moving me to 50mg. Standing at a whopping 5ft, I of course worry about the weight gain.

I stopped taking my Paxil CR 25mg approx 3 weeks ago due to loss of insurance and job. I had been taking them for over 2 years and before that I took other anti-depressants for several years. Since stopping the pills I have been experiencing insomnia and "dizzy spells". The spells last about 1 second, can occur when I take a deep breath, or move my eyes fast, among other reasons,and happen 50+ times per day. I feel this is a direct effect from stopping the pills.

paxil caused me to gain 40 pounds which i was almost able to lose through hard exercise and diet but then got pregnant... just work out it will come off, but it may be a little stubborn.

People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.

I have done research about the side effects from taking Paxil but their website says weight gain is a possibility and mentions nothing about the loss of energy. I feel like I cannot accomplish anything because of all the sleep I require. Im 24 and I went from a size 1 to a size 7. I have decided against my doctor's wishes to stop taking this medication. I am wheaning myself off slowly because of the horrible withdrawl sysmptoms such as severe dizziness and nausea.

Second she has lost almost all compassion. It is like most of her emotions have gone. Last thing I have noticed is weight gain. I would say 40 lbs in the last couple years.Any ideas for help?

I take paxil 25 cr now and it is working pretty good. My doc upped me to 37.5 and I noticed no difference either so went back down to 25 without a problem. I think as long as you are taking paxil going down on dose is not an issue, it's if you go off all at once but my son who is 14 and has just developed panic attacks was put on zoloft 50 mgs and it has helped him. I took zoloft first but gave me gastro problems so doc wanted me to switch.

I started out taking 20 mg of paxil and ended up on 40 mg of paxil CR. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse.

i have social anxiety also, i am on lexapro which helps a bit... and no change in weight as of yet anyway..
