Paxil cr mechanism of action

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil cr mechanism of action

paxil

Avatar m tn The Zoloft dose seems to be pretty close to the Paxil dose, although due to all of these meds varying in mechanism of action, it is impossible to find a perfect dose to start at with the new med....for each individual person. I think breaking up the Zoloft dose like he did will be helpful to you as well. There is no way we would be able to tell you what dose your doctor will Rx you, that is something you need to discuss with him.

Avatar f tn I have taken 12.5 mg of Paxil cr for almost a year. I am not liking it or feeling better. My doc just switched me today from that to 5 mg of lexapro for two weeks then up to 10 mg of it. Said I can just switch cold turkey. I have read mostly people being tapered off slowly to switch. Has anyone here successfully switched immediately or should I wean somehow??
Avatar n tn t beleive it took me so long to make the connection between the paxil cr and being tired. It just kind of crept up on me...sometimes I would feel drugged, it reminded me of when I was in the hospital after major surgery and I was just floating, like if I never moved a muscle again I would be fine with that. I can't beleive I never even thought to blame the paxil cr for that.
Avatar m tn to me and a friend of mine who also tried it, Paxil CR didn't work nearly as well as regular paxil. I gave Paxil CR about 8 months, and it never got better.
983155 tn?1248700406 re in Paxil withdrawal and, because you started another drug at the same time that has a completely different mechanism of action, you have the side effects of starting another drug that may not even be an appropriate substitute for Paxil. What you should do is, if you just started the wellbutrin, stop it, go back on the Paxil, and taper off slowly, as slowly as it takes because you aren't anyone else. What you have are classic Paxil withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn It's hard to say WHY you had panic attacks. It could have been part of a discontinuation symptom from d/c'ing the Paxil (like a w/d), because while you were started on a new med (Zoloft) while coming off the Paxil, they aren't identical in their mechanism of action, and you could still experience some w/d. Paxil is notoriously hard to come off of. What was the dose you were at when you stopped taking it and what was the dose of Zoloft?
Avatar f tn Hi all, Just wondering, is there any 1 out there that has had a positive experience with Paxil CR. I read alot of horror stories and am just wondering if it has actually helped anyone. You see, I have had panic disorder my whole life. I am 51 now. I was put on Paxil CR a few years ago and I thought it was a miracle drug. Totally got rid of my panic attacks. Still have some anxiety but am menopausal also.
467977 tn?1262714747 Hi! Well, I still feel nervousness after taking my Paxil. I'm in week 6. They say what, 6-8 weeks? Will the nervousness "just go away like that?" or am I doomed, lol... :( I am wondering....should I switch to Paxil CR? I wonder if that would help any?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking my Paxil CR 25mg approx 3 weeks ago due to loss of insurance and job. I had been taking them for over 2 years and before that I took other anti-depressants for several years. Since stopping the pills I have been experiencing insomnia and "dizzy spells". The spells last about 1 second, can occur when I take a deep breath, or move my eyes fast, among other reasons, and happen 50+ times per day. I feel this is a direct effect from stopping the pills.
Avatar m tn Does anyone else have HORRIBLE nausea from taking Paxil CR? I am on 25 mgs. and it is helping greatly with the depression. BUT the nausea is insane. I take it at bedtime with a snack and I am sick for half of the next day. Ginger tea, gingerale, Coke, oatmeal. Totally bland diet. It is one heck of a diet plan. Please help.
Avatar m tn had set in with Paxil CR. I was on Paxil CR 25mg and now it looks like once I get the last bit of Lexapro 5mg out of my system I will probably be bumped up to Paxil CR 37.5. My question is, what constitutes a "poop out"? I hear that term a lot and really don't know what it means. Does that mean that when trying to go up in a dose it still didn't help?
Avatar m tn After the first soe of medication i have a panic attact right away, afre all week of suffering i came back to my old doctor who described teh paxil in the begging . He changed the Paxil to CR 12.5 and gave me Xanax, The hell just started, I was not able to function, between morning panic attacts and vomiting i was not able to work (almost lost my job). After two weeks of suffering i went to hospital they run all regular tests and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with me.
Avatar m tn I am starting week #5 of paxil cr (week 1 = paxil cr 12.5, week 2 = paxil cr 25, week 3- current = paxil 37.5) Everywhere I read its just "keep waiting it out. It will get better." My doc wants me to raise to paxil cr 50mg on Monday if I don't start feeling any better. That is double the old dose I was at that worked for so long! It just scares me to keep going up. I recently tried Lexapro and it was a disaster. I just need some positive feedback.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar f tn I also should add I take 20mg of Paxil but was previously on the 25CR. I liked the regular Paxil better than the CR.
407812 tn?1211307057 Actually, it sounds like you may be having a drop in blood pressure when standing, that could be hormone related, anemia related, sugar related or something else physical including a negative reaction to some action of the paxil. I would DEFINATLY insist your GP see you immediatly before you injure yourself because that does sound like seriouse cause for concern.
1512520 tn?1290258130 Well have gone to the doc and he has given me a 50 mg 2x daily of Topamax to take with the Paxil CR. I am going to take just the Topamax for a month or so hoping to drop some of the weight gained then start back on the Paxil CR. I will continue to update as I know there are others out there who are in the same boat! p.s. its quiet expensive if you dont have insurance coverage and from other posts the generic versions arent the same.
1458799 tn?1328757528 Pharmacodynamics Bupropion is a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, and does not inhibit monoamine oxidase or the re-uptake of serotonin. While the mechanism of action of bupropion, as with other antidepressants, is unknown, it is presumed that this action is mediated by noradrenergic and/or dopaminergic mechanisms." (from drugs.com) The most important thing you need to keep in mind is that this is the next step in addressing your anxiety....
Avatar n tn I have been taking 37.5 mg/day of Paxil CR for several years and because my panic attacks were interfering with my ability to work, my medical doctor and psychologist suggested that I switch to 50 mg/day of Zoloft. I am now on day 5 of Zoloft and can NOT stop crying. I'm also dizzy and nauseaous. I feel like I'm losing my mind and want to know if this is "normal" during transitioning from one SSRI to another and if so, WHEN WILL THIS END?
Avatar f tn I started out taking 20 mg of paxil and ended up on 40 mg of paxil CR. All together, I took paxil for 6 years. I decided to stop taking it because it kept me from concentrating and memorizing which is vital since I am in college to be a school teacher. In addition, I gained so much weight due to the medicine. My doctor helped me get off of the paxil which was a horrible experience that I never want to repeat again! Now my anxiety has come back and it is becoming worse.
Avatar f tn I started the end of February and recently went from 12.5 CR to 25 CR. I am 55 post menopause. In 2003 I had a biopsy that came back negative for microcalcifications. All mammograms since have been negative. Of course being a worry wart I researched Paxil online and read some articles linking prolactin increasing from some SSRIS specifically Paxil to increase a Breast Cancer risk. The Paxil is working for me after all of these years of feeling out of sorts.
730044 tn?1231438020 Hey! Today I decided to take myself off of the Paxil CR 37.5mg I have been taking this for months now and I have gained a lot of weight! I have read about the withdraw affects and I can not believe it! This is a horrible med to be on people! While it works damn good...you put on a lot of weight! I can not take the way I look anymore! I would rather have the "zaps" than continue to gain weight!
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar m tn t work. Now I have been switched back to Paxil CR and I am currently on a new high of 37.5 milligrams for a week and a half and still don't feel that great. Is it usual to have a set back at every dose increase before it gets better? I have also only been off Lexapro for a week and a half as well so maybe there are some lasting effects from that even though I only took it for 8 weeks.
Avatar m tn After a failed attempt to fix my anxiety and subsequent depression that has come from it over the last 14 weeks with Lexapro and Paxil, my psych is switching me too Remeron (Mirtazapine) 30mgs. I started my first dose last night and already started my taper down of Paxil CR 50mg to Paxil CR 37.5 and hold there for a week. I also take Clonazepam 1mg at night to help me sleep due to the paxil. And I take Clonazepam .25mg dissolvable tablets during the day as needed for anxiety.
