Paxil birth defects men

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil birth defects men

paxil

Avatar f tn You and your husband both need to see a Dr to discuss your options. Paxil has been linked to birth defects in babies born to some women that are taking it. I'm not sure about the fathers who are taking it. Can your husband go off the meds until you get pregnant?
Avatar m tn If you are the one taking the medication the answer is no. If your wife is taking medications the answer is yes. The only impacts the medications can have on your breeding are on your libido and sperm's DNA which could in the worse case cause some degree of infertility. Again the sperm data are not significant and more studies are needed to see what medications can cause DNA fragmentation.
944223 tn?1245869858 Nope, stopped cold turkey because of a commercial that said Paxil was causing birth defects and heart palpitations. Also, i'm not fond of pills..There are other things that naturally do the same thing with no side effects. I probably shouldn't have, but Im not depressed, and it wasnt helping with anxiety. My "anxiety" though, is just natural loads of energy and a heightened sense of urgency..
Avatar f tn Been trying to substitute with xanax. I am now 7 weeks and i feel great when i take a xanax... ive heard paxil can cause birth defects... but how safe is my baby while on xanax? I dont take more than 1mg a day...?? Havent been able to get on medicaid yet and contact a dr about my situation. I feel i need the xanax to feel motivated. And the keep my stress level down? Is this ok?
Avatar n tn Taking antidepressants during pregnancy may pose health risks for your baby — but stopping may pose risks for you. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/antidepressants/DN00007 Go to this link. It talks about meds and pregnancy and goes down the list of all the different kinds. Very reputable site. Check it out and get answers.
Avatar f tn Yea def don't take paxil or any psych meds. They give birth defects. Google how to calm anxiety and ask docs at your next appt.
Avatar f tn Paxil used to be category C until they started seeing babies with birth defects due to moms being on Paxil during pregnancy...hence all the lawsuits and now paxil is class D. I guess I'd feel better taking it if I had more symptoms but for right now I think I can deal with it? Idk...maybe I'm over thinking it...I've also heard babies born to moms on metaprolol tend to be low birth weight...or can have lower heartbeats...
Avatar f tn She is getting married this Nov and wants to have children. Paxil will cause birth defects, so she really needs to find something else. Funny how are Doctors can never find a drug to swith us to. How we have asked jover the years!!!!
Avatar n tn said prozac would probably not be helpful. Either paxil or Effexor...I know past studies had shown for Paxil to be linked to heart defects but now they are saying no (Motherisk Hospital for Sick Chrildren). Can someone else give some insight on the absoluate safety of this drug. Mr. Dr. said if Motherisk says its safe then I should not worry however I want to know for certain before TTC while on it. Please help. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Anyone know anything about this? Once again, the expert forum is full.
Avatar n tn Isotretinoin is a teratogen and is highly likely to cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy. A few of the more common birth defects that this drug can cause are hearing and visual impairment, missing earlobes, facial dysmorphism, and mental retardation. Isotretinoin's use is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Teratogen exposure in the 1st trimester can be linked to congenital birth defects.
Avatar f tn How does birth defects happen is it in the family blood? Or what you eat or if you get hurt? I'm suppose to have my very first baby check up Aug 1 I'm 7weeks tomorrow and I just don't want nothing happening to my baby I'm scared to death I'm pretty sure it's to early to determine the baby has birth defects since I'm not to far along but I'll be 13 weeks when I see the doctor.
Avatar n tn Ladies im really concerned and cant get excited because im scared ive caused birth defects to my baby. Before I knew I was taking chinese herbs and also had a typhoid inj as I was goin to bali. I stopped the herbs at 4 weeks but wudda been after implantation. I had the vax the day before ovulation but heard the vax stays in ur system for 14 days. Anyone else worried about medications they been taking or have any advice? I just cry and cant b happy.
Avatar n tn Her surgerian told me whenever i was to get pregnant again i had to drink a higher dosis of folic acid to prevent birth defects, my ob prescribed me folic acid in pills which i have to take 4 of them every day im not taking no vitamins since he didnt prescribed none to me. I have to say im really concern about this pregnancy im so worried. Idk if any of you ladies had gone through something similar to this.
Avatar f tn Yeah, milk is definitely not necessary for anyone to drink. If you're worried about calcium Google "foods high in calcium" and you'll see many other options. As the ladies said above, soda isn't necessarily going to cause birth defects, but high sugar intake is not nourishing for mom or baby. I looked it up once and 4gms of sugar is about 1 tsp so one can of Mountain Dew, with 46gms of sug has ELEVEN teaspoons of sugar in it. One can! It's crazy!
Avatar f tn t have him so incredibly addicted. I also have heard that paxil is bad on your liver and possible birth defects! The trouble with even thinking of doing this is... he is a sales manager in an already stressful environment. He does not want to try to do this when it would negatively impact his work. Is there a way to take something to supplement the paxil, while at the same time weaning off the dosage of the paxil?
Avatar m tn In other words does it hurt the sperm so if succesful conception does take place, will it be putting the child for any birth defects or abnormalities. I also take Xanax for stress.
Avatar f tn Why I am trying to do this again you may ask, is that I would like to get pregnant once i am a bit less of a mental reck and paxil has a increased risk of Congenital Heart Defects, as well as god knows what else and also it makes me gain weight and gives me acid reflux and gas problems; you say talk to your doctor well unfortunately were i live there is a shortage of doctors that are accepting patients and the ones that are well lets just say less than desirable soo I go to a walk in clinic and
Avatar n tn The big one that I was told they worry about is Paxil as it is known to cause birth defects. Cymbalta is a pregnancy category C which means that although there have been no proven risks, they can't be ruled out completely. Depression or anxiety definitely still need to be treated thigh. I take a pregnancy category c mood stabilizer and have had no issues and the baby is healthy and strong (39 + 3 weeks). I would recommend not taking yourself off them until you meet with your doc.
Avatar n tn I also want to add that all the above discussion is about birth defects caused by drugs. While that's a big concern, that's not the only reason medications are contraindicated while pregnant. Antidepressants and benzos affect the brain of healthy adults in a way that alters the normal way the brain operates.
467977 tn?1262714747 5 a day because i was told it was bad to take during pregnancy because of birth defects. So I have been trying to deal and not doing so well also in fear that anxiety is going to get worse. I have also developed OCD over the 10 weeks and my therapist said i am having episodes of phsychosis (not in touch with reality) It sounds like some of you take klonopin while pregnant. Is it ok to take once in a while? have any of you taken it and had a normal baby?
