Paxil and valerian root

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and valerian root

paxil

I am searching for help with herbal supplements. I am wanting to try valerian root to ease my stress/anxiety. Anyone know if it is safe to take with Paxil?
Although Paxil is a good drug for some patients I really think doctors should try other SSRI's first and use Paxil as a later resort.
) I was, well, still am, prepared for a long road of crazy anxiety and increased depression, and I did get Valerian Root and then a few weeks later St. John's Wort, and they have helped immensely! I find I need them less and less now, which is so encouraging for me....I thought I'd be in withdrawal hell forever.
I dealt with severe panic/anxiety attacks for years that valerian root, st, john's wort, vitamen B's did absolutely nothing for. Paxil really helped me. What helped more was a great therapist that taught me to cope in different ways. There are good therapists that almost always work on a sliding scale and a lot of insurance companies will pay for as well.
you can use valerian root in the therapy of mild anxiety or stress
I think is quite similar to the valerian root, the one i'm taking and it's working with me in those aspects you have commented ( sedative, relaxer and for the anxiety ). I don't know about the interactions with xanax.
So I called my dad because he knows alot about natural medicine. I drank tea made from Valerian Root and St. John's Wort about 3 t after I stayed with him. But it's working so far.
I know this is random, and sorry i keep rambling, But does anyone know anything about how valerian root and a b complex and vit.c pills can help the w/d's? I am also on Paxil, and I take ativan, only if i really need it and suboxone if I'm having bad cravings. I asked my dr but because the suboxone's aren't perscribed to me, he wont say what to do. Also, he kind of rolled his eyes at me when I mentioned using vitamins and herb to help my symptom's......
It's so weird to be sooooo tired but not be able to sleep. The xanax didn't help, the kava kava didn't help and valerian root didn't help. I started taking meletonin. I guess I could do without the sleep if I felt at peace within myself but laying there awake I just sink deeper and deeper into depression. I've got past the physical symptons..except for some damn headaches...but the mental part is just about to do me in. I'm in tears as I write this.
I have constant grinding, popping, and cracking sounds in my joints all over my body, especially in my neck, very badly in my shoulders, my back, jaw, elbows, wrists, knees and hips. It does not usually hurt but my muscles and joints hurt and seem to be tense, weak and stiff. Can anxiety cause all of these CONSTANT symptoms? This problem is effecting my life and my relationships and I just want to feel normal and like my old self again.

She should definetly see a psychiatrist or neurologist and get on antiseizure medications until she is completely weaned from her other medications. The weaning should take at least 3 weeks, ending the last week with the smallest possible dose every third day, then stop.
I did talk to my doctor and she wants me to start taking promazine 25 mg, I am afraid that I might just end up on this medicine and I really don't want to take anything. Also, I was on Paxil and I didn't respond well to it. I have been Xanax free for almost 3 months and I dont even want to think about using it again, Thank you for the responses!
I have a family member who went from daily Xanax to Buspar and Paxil with good results. I wish I had more than support and prayers to offer you Thomas. You have given up so much for us and now I feel like I've short changed you. My heart is out to you brother. God Bless you and peace be with you this evening.
A real commitment to working with a good doctor and therapist to find the root cause of your anxiety and dealing with it. Only by meeting it head on will you be able to put it behind you. You may be able to do without meds and you may not. There is nothing wrong with taking some medication if it will help you cross whatever river it is you need to wade across. It is a medical fact that no one has ever died from anxiety. It won't kill you in the sense you mean.
As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Try aromatherpy for sleeping (lavendar and eucalyptus for nighttime asthmatics), with valerian root (an herbal supplement to aid sleeping) and calming sounds or music (i.e. rain, ocean waves, etc.). I also agree with the tip for magnesium, changing your sheets (sometimes even a different texture or temperate in the sheets will change how you sleep) and HEPA filters and/or HEPA vacuum. You might also consider mattress and pillow case covers to minimize mites and dust.
So I dug up some more info that I wanna share ... in case you are dying of curiousity. I would snap at the kids for no reason and I hate doing that, so I decided to give the valerian root a try. I took no more than 2 at a time and like I said earlier, it didnt make me sleepy, but mellow. Oh I should warn you of the smell. These are the nastiest smelling pills I have ever come into contact with. I was unaware of the smell when I purchased them, and about gagged when I opened that bottle. So just as a precaution for you, dont stick your nose too close to the bottle.
The majority of people are magnesium deficient (61% according to the USDA), and it really does help me. I've looked into the Valerian and hops combination, but I heard the Valerian loses its kick quickly. I guess it couldn't hurt to give a try though to see for myself. Melatonin works very well for me for sleep, but I don't currently take it.
go to a health food store and get a sleep remedy with ingredients such as GABA, passion fruit, valerian root, etc... trust me...you don't want to go down the xanax route. it should be a last resort, and maybe not even then.
I am 50, and have been struggling with hot flashes and interrupted sleep for about four years, with the last two being particularly bad. My gyno recommended black cohosh (545 mg, not to exceed 900 mg per day) and valerian root (1030 mg). Do a little research about them, as at least one of them can elevate liver enzymes - but after taking them both in the am, and the valerian again at night for about two weeks, the flashes have reduced significantly.
What is your experience with those those people with anxiety taking Valerian, St. John's Wort or Kava? I am taking 20 mg of Paxil and take the occasional Valerian Root extract to sleep. It works great! No more Clonazepoam to sleep!!!!! I was wondering if it advsisable to take Kava while on Paxil. PS: For evryone who gets stomach problems with their anxiety. Drink Chamomile tea with some extra Chamomile extract drops in it. Thanks!
you stated you have tried otc meds for sleeping, have you tried valerian root? magnesium and L-Theanine is also effective for anxiety and sleeping. this info is from the web md. Valerian is an herb. Medicine is made from the root. Valerian is most commonly used for sleep disorders, especially the inability to sleep (insomnia). It is frequently combined with hops, lemon balm, or other herbs that also cause drowsiness.
I'm on lexapro, which helps out some, but I keep valerian root with me at all times... for the stronger panic attacks. It really helps relax a bit. Try your best to stay busy and keep your mind off of it and exercise. That seems to help more than anything...oh and a good night's sleep. If you need to discuss it...feel free to contact me. It seems to help having people who understand what you are going through. ***@**** Good Luck.

Actually, Im doing alot better. Been reading and watching the linden method. It really reinstated what I already knew. Anxiety is all a mind thing!! You are the one thats making you feel the way you do. Really puts some science behind anxiety and teaches you how to beat it, and also ways to cope with sensations and symptoms. I recomend the Linden Method to anyone who suffers from anxiety. This has made me feel a hundred times better.
I'm on Paxil for depression and and anxiety and I also take ativan for breakthrough anxiety. My paxil is only 10mg and does nothing really. I feel like i want to climb the walls. I feel so trapped, no one in my family knows and there's no way that i can tell them. I just know if i do another oxy i'll feel good. I just want to feel good. I can't stop crying and this anxiety is hard to deal with. after reading through these posts it helps to know that people are going through the same thing.
water gatorade. and just hang on...post here as often as you need. oh.. and valerian root extract helps sleep and anxiety( i prefer the liquid) or melatonin.
