So gratifying. I haven't posted for a very long time ... but I will always keep this thread going. I remember so well the desperation I had to hear from anyone ... anyone about how they got off. Now there's years worth of posts from people round the world who kicked Tram.

The medical industry has to look at itself and evaluate the education of its doctors about the side effects and drug interactions. We also have learned how to listen to our patients, which is not easy with the busy schedules and busy waiting rooms. However, no matter how busy, a doctor cannot practice good medicine if he does not take time to educate him/herself and carefully listen to the patient.
Clue number two was when someone stole the remaining one and a half cases of ultram samples out of the MD's office on the unit. Presumeably it was a staff member. Old timers just shook their heads and said "yep, same thing when valium came out... and it won't be the last time, either." Then, a year or two later, got our first patient needing detox from tramadol. I have watched and assisted aprox 25 people go through tramadol withdrawal.
■SSRIs such as citalopram (Celexa), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine, paroxetine (<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>paxil</span>) and sertraline (Zoloft) ■Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) such as trazodone (Desyrel) and venlafaxine (Effexor) ■The norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) buproprion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) ■Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan) and phenelzine (Nardil) ■Pain medications such as fentanyl (Sublimaze), meperidine (Demerol), pentaz
I've never taken Effexor....but I've taken Elavil, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>paxil</span>, Zoloft, Cymbalta, and Wellbutrin so I know a little something about the benefits and side effects of AD's. Most AD's will lower your sex drive to almost zero (except wellbutrin and I wonder about it sometimes) and cause weight gain. When I took cymbalta I had extreme fatigue (slept the whole time I was on it) as well as constipation and dry mouth.
I've been on high dosages of elavil, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>paxil</span> and neurontin - nothing stopped the immediate pain. I was also having headaches, so my PC doctor prescribed 100 mg. of darvocet for the headaches, and jackpot! the darvocet also stopped the immediate neuropathy pain and helped me sleep also. Darvocet is the only meds I take - it doesn't take away all the pain - but I'm not in devastating pain 24 hours a day any more and on darvocet at least I can function.
Although I am new(er) here, and haven’t posted much yet, I have been on the board daily for a couple of months now reading posts and feeling the comfort of knowing that I am not alone in my battle of daily pain and learning how to live with it and manage things. I finally went and saw a pain management doc for the first time yesterday and it was a wonderful and terrifying experience all wrapped in one. I was so glad to finally find a caring doc that listened and spent over an hour with me.
Do you think I've just postponed my wd's from the opiates by taking the Ultram, and that this is really day 1 not day 5? Or am I just being paranoid? Or both!
As stated before their are no contraindications, just combinations and interactions. Parnate is cool drug, nody died in Australia yet, been available 30 years now,buy a pack read the box and relax.
I have been on both ultram and hydro and I believe the ultram is harder to get off of. I got off the hydro back in Jan and my dr gave me the ultram for my back pain, it does not help my pain so I quit it and man I have been through it. I think the docs should take a closer look at this drug. It's not what it's been said to be, non-addictive.
I nearly killed myself on that combination and since January have been on nothing but Ultram. I can fuction again. I think again. with ambien, I was in a haze that lasted well into the day. And when I would run out, I was left with days of insomnia. I do use over the counter sleeping meds, occasionally, but for the most part, I sleep.
