527657 tn?1214051850 Its a double edged sword...either be heavy and panic attack free or stay on Paxil and have image problems when you go up a dress size! I feel your pain honey! I'm hoping that I can get my weight back under control within a few weeks, but I'm not sure I will remain medication free forever. I've worked through a lot of my issues in therepy, so I am hopeful my panic attacks will remain far away, but if they come back, Paxil will be the last med I will go back on.
1396756 tn?1283523477 I recently started taking paxil in hopes to reduce my depression and stress(witch cause me 2 eat) Im so disgusted by my weight> I even cried in fronta the DR! Does any1 kno if the med will help my depression and in turn help my eating? Also the Paxil totally keeps my appetite at bay.Im not hungry at all!
Avatar f tn Several years ago I stopped taking Paxil and Remeron and after 2mos, the 20lbs I had gained, melted right off. Hope this happens for you too.
Avatar n tn m currently on Paxil and Xanax, and have been experiencing a complete loss of appetite most days. I started eating a few days ago, but I'm only on 10mg a day for the Paxil. It takes a while for stuff to kick in, but this med has made me lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks. When I was 14 (I'm now 25) I was put on Celexa, and I was on it for a couple of years. I remember the Dr. increased my dosage a few times, and eventually I felt like a zombie. And YES I did gain weight.
Avatar m tn It tends to have a sedating effect that can interfere with your metabolism and make you feel more hungry (especially for sugar and carbs). Paxil is supposed to be the best medication for anxiety and panic, but there are other medications that may work equally as well for you without the dreaded weight gain side-effect. You should speak to your doctor about this. But whatever you do, do not just stop taking the Paxil.
Avatar f tn , previously 120 before the meds (about 9 monts ago) I have started working out again, but I still want to eat. Paxil has really helped my anxiety and panic attacks and would like something that would work as well without the weight gain, if that is possible!! Thanks! Any advise would be so helpfull!!
Avatar f tn I was still having some depression/anxiety issues so I saw a psychiatrist who changed me to wellbutrin 200mg twice a day and weaning off the paxil. I have been taking 10 mg of paxil for the last month and now am taking it every other day to wean off. In the last few days I have been so dizzy to the point of almost falling down and not sleeping well at night with crazy dreams. Is this all do to the new medicine or could it be something else.
Avatar n tn It's the Paxil -- big weight gainer! All of these meds for depression can cause weight gain, and it has nothing to do with normal metabolism. I exercised a lot and didn't eat any more, and gained 50 pounds over a period of years. You'll see reports of it with any antidepressant. You have to decide what's more important, feeling good or looking good if you're of the ones who experiences weight gain. Increased the dose for hot flashes? Now that's a quack.
Avatar f tn The important thing to do is to clarify here between good and bad cholesterol, and especially try and get the HDL (good stuff) up. Other than that, not sure how to counteract it. The danger of high cholesterol is its oxidation, not its existence, so eating a lot of colored veggies helps, and fish oil and wild cold water fish can help raise the good cholesterol, as can flax oil.
Avatar f tn But the suggestions are really no different than for anyone else who needs to lose weight -- the drugs slow down our metabolism, and sometimes cause cravings for sugar and simple carbs. So you need to speed up your metabolism through exercise and cut out those foods that metabolize most quickly into sugar that, if not burned off immediately, store as fat. It's harder when you're on these meds, but hopefully you can find a program that works for you.
Avatar f tn What you can do about it is to promote a better metabolism. Raw vegetables contains enzymes will promote a better working metabolism and so B vitamins will. If you can't have enough B vitamins in your diet i would suggest you buy a Vitamin B complex from a health store. It could also help with the depression.
Avatar f tn Most antidepressants and antipsychotics can cause weight gain because they slow the metabolism. They also interfere with magnesium absorption and disrupt the normal functioning of serotonin, most of which helps to regulate the digestive system. They also alter personality. If you do quit the drug you will probably lose most of the weight fairly quickly, but if you still have the problem then you'll end up on another drug if you don't find help through therapy.
Avatar m tn t notice any change in action except it did reduce my sedation. Paxil reduces metabolism for many people, and can be a big weight gainer for that reason -- I gained a lot on it -- which is why it probably produces so much sedation in some people.
213972 tn?1206050188 Has anyone on here taken Paxil during pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby? In my case, my doctor thinks the benefits of the medication will outweigh possible complications the drug may have on baby. I'm not pregnant yet, but trying to gather as much information as I can to make an educated decision about this.
Avatar m tn SSRIs often interact with the metabolism of lots of medications. Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Citalopram/Escitalopram (Celexa, Lexapro) are inhibitors of CYP2D6 - the enzyme responsible for metabolizing lots of medications. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) is inhibiting another enzyme. Sertraline (Zoloft) do not have this side effect, and Venlafaxine (Effexor, a SNRI) is also perhaps a good choice, as itdood said.

Avatar m tn Antidepressants are notorious for causing weight gain in some users, and not in others. They affect metabolism. Many people will insist calories are the key to weight, but they are only one small factor. The biggest factor is how well you digest and burn what you eat.
Avatar n tn Weight gain is very common with Paxil, less common with Prozac and Lexapro, less common still with stimulating antidepressants, but they don't tend to do very well for anxiety sufferers.
Avatar m tn Im now considering seing a doc. I build muscle, which I cant see, highly frustrating. The more cardio I do, just leads to my muscles depreciating as you've said. Its as if my metabolism has slowed down to a halt and my body's just storing fat. I mean even when I see my doc, he's just going to put me on more drugs right?
457721 tn?1256640798 I am 23 years old and currently on Paxil 20mg a day for depression, OCD, and anxiety/panic disorder. I have always had a problem with anxiety...but the depression has been in the past three years and the OCD more recently. I am about to finish my first month of the medicine and then I am supposed to up to 30mg a day since the anxiety is not getting any better. In the past month I have found that I have a HUGE desire to drink. ALL DAY LONG. I have NEVER been a big drinker....
486919 tn?1280184140 Hello, I'm having problems with my metabolism. I'm a very big man, over 300 lbs, but very active. Most people can't believe how much i weigh when we talk about size, most people think I weigh about 250. I have been dieting for about a year and have lost over 30 lbs.. But in the last 3 or 4 months, my weight has moved up and down. I'm at 329 right now and it has moved as low as 315 to as high as 335. I have not changed my diet and have even tried exercising a little bit more.
1397290 tn?1357777871 Calorie-intake should be according to your physical activity. 2800-3000 is quite a lot, which if you don't gain of it, you should perhaps seek professional aid.
