Paxil and lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and lexapro

paxil

Avatar n tn Sadly no one on here can answer that question for you and if they do say yes do not listen as we are not trained medical doctors nor do we know all about your medical history. You will have to go back and speak to your PC or GP and see what he/she says. There must of been a logical/medical reaso for the change.... Maybe Lexapro interacts with another medicine that was prescribed, hence the change.
Avatar f tn Well, my psychiatrist is doing 10 mg of Lexapro for three days, then 5mg Lexapro/5mg Paxil for three days and then back to 10 mg Paxil. I pray to God that I will start feeling better once I'm back on the Paxil. I've been having constant every second panicky thoughts that I'm going to die or that I'm going to faint. Of course this doesn't happen but the fear is real and dreadful. The problem i've been having with the palpitations makes it worse.
Avatar n tn When you were switched, I'm assuming a doctor made this decision to switch out Lexapro for Paxil and add on Klonopin? Are they aware of your also taking propranolol? Drug interactions are real but typically doctors try to be aware of a patients full history as long as you provide it to them. A pharmacist where you fulfil your prescriptions is also a great source of information. In general, paxil and klonopin are frequently prescribed together.
Avatar n tn First of all, is he in therapy? The meds won't cure him, they just treat symptoms. Second, you say he is suffering depression. Does he also suffer anxiety? I ask because some pure antidepressants are stimulating and can cause anxiety. And did he wean off Lexapro, or quit cold turkey and to immediately to Paxil? He could be suffering Lexapro withdrawal if he did, and Paxil won't necessarily do anything about that.
Avatar m tn Then Christmas comes I get the flu and boom goes my anxiety so with the New Years thought it might be best to try this switch since everytime I was getting sick I was having to increase paxil dosage. So my schedule to get off paxil and onto lexapro is as follows. I am also taking a 1/2 pill of .5mg Ativan nightly to help me sleep. Week 1 Paxil 30mg. Week 2 Paxil 20mg. Lexapro 5mg. Week 3 Paxil 10mg. Lexapro 10mg. Week 4 Lexapro 10mg.
Avatar m tn 20 years off and on paxil but decided not to get off anymore because i get very ill dr saying its relapsing illness and basically its depression even though im not sad its same thing paxil stopped working few months ago and i asked the dr to switch lexapro since i didnt try to switch to anything for 10 years, i tried cymbalta before with different dr and it did nothing for me i was hoping that with lexapro will have less side effects also, i gained little weight on paxil and its impossible to ge
Avatar f tn I asked my psychiatrist for Lexapro but she said I needed something stronger. A friend of mine just started on Lexapro and I am pissed that I was given Paxil; which is one of the older ones. My therapist told me that the older ones caused the weight gain and the newer ones are much better. I am going to ask for Lexapro and if she doesn't prescribe it I will get it from my PCP. Oh, I am having trouble sleeping too due to this drug.
Avatar m tn He performed a neurological examination on me, which was normal and perscribed me lexapro for anxiety. I kept my appointment with the other neurologist, who is more well known. He performed another neurological examination on me, which was also normal. I asked him if another M.R.I. could be done, which he was kind enough to order on my cervical spine. This was also normal.
2102085 tn?1350866645 With that thought, I went to my p-doc yesterday to explain my findings, and she suggested that I wean off Lexapro and immediately switch to Paxil. She put me on a plan where i decrease my Lexapro and slowly add Paxil. I am currently on only 5mg of Lexapro. My nausea has decreased but still miserable and now it is mixed with Lexapro withdrawl symptoms, which as you may know, is a nightmare. I am seriously considering not starting the Paxil and just getting off SSRIs all together.
Avatar m tn I was on and off Paxil for several years. After about 6 years it quit working. This can happen with these meds. In my opinion, I would give it a little more time. If you don't feel better in the next few weeks it may be time to think about another med. You did'nt do well on Lexapro?
Avatar m tn Lexapro first. Paxil is a more aggressive SSRI than Lexapro. It's hard to come off Paxil so I would start with Lexapro.
Avatar f tn I seem to get a liottle better the first day I took 12.5mg of paxil and no lexapro. The next day got harder and everyday after that and evertime he would up it I would feel like i was having seizures, major panick attacks, heart hurting, spinning, balance totally off, diarreah, constant peeing, burning in my head, skin felt like I had a sunburn, nitemares, headache, weakness, whole body jerking and to any noise at all. Afraid of everything. So now I told him I can't take paxil anymore.
Avatar m tn My friend gave me 30 lexapro 10 mg. is this going to help me come off of paxil? will I stay the same since lexapro is an ssri and essentially the same drug class? I need to know this or I will have to go to an emergency to get more paxil.
Avatar f tn Hi, I don't know the answer to your question but I understand because I just went from Paxil to Lexapro and am feeling miserable. I think it's due to Paxil withdrawel and the Lexapro doesn't seem to be working for me. Have you ever gone from one antidepressant to another?
Avatar m tn A month ago I was switched over from Paxil CR 25mg to Lexapro 10mg and felt better after 2 weeks. At that point I tried to wean down my Klonopin from 1mg to .5mg and up my Lexapro from 10mg to 15mg (doctors recommendations) after a week of doing that I felt terrible and went back up to Klonopin 1mg deciding to ween later. Well now I am a month into the start of Lexapro and even though my anxiety is better, its not great.
Avatar m tn t heard much about doing it the other way around. And why Paxil and not Prozac or Lexapro? Lots of questions here. Sounds like your main problem, from the meds you're on, has been diagnosed as depression, not anxiety. True? If so, you might get better help on the depression forum.
Avatar f tn Hi Lori, I just wanted to say I am on this journey with you. I've been on Lexapro for five years (with the ocassional break). I have acute chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I've been weaning off 20 mg of Lexapro. I too am beginning to experience some of the symptoms that reveal my anxiety disorder. I cannot do SSRI's anymore - I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, both left me with weight gain (which dropped off quickly), and a complete loss of creativity.
Avatar m tn m going on 11 years of GAD that have been relatively taken care of until the past few months. I have taken paxil and paxil cr over the years and it has worked great, even when I cut cold turkey and went through nasty withdrawals. I could always count on it working when I went back on. Fastforward to today.... I am starting week #5 of paxil cr (week 1 = paxil cr 12.5, week 2 = paxil cr 25, week 3- current = paxil 37.5) Everywhere I read its just "keep waiting it out.
Avatar f tn s hard for some to come off paxil but not everyone. And the hope is the lexopro will move into action and help again where paxil was. By the way, why did you need to stop the paxil? Hang in there. Take one day at a time. And if you have to, even if it seems impossible, call your doctor and get seen. They will make time for you if you are really struggling.
Avatar f tn People taking SSRIs like Lexapro can complain about weight gain; and there are many that complain about weight loss. Remember, that anxiety can often lead to depression which in itself can cause weight gain for a viarity of reasons. I actually lost weight while taking an SSRI, but I think it had to do a lot more with a normal exercise routine and watching what I ate.
Avatar f tn I'm not Alidora, but I took Paxil for years before it gave me insomnia. So there you go. These drugs can change over time, they're weird, nobody can tell you how you're going to feel. I would recommend you try Lexapro rather than Paxil; Paxil can be a very difficult drug to take and stop taking. Lexapro can, too, but few are as problematic as Paxil. Given you won't know how either will affect you, I'd go with the Lexapro first, and Paxil as a last resort only.
Avatar m tn Day 5 since I upped my Lexapro to 20mgs per doctor and seems like I have had an increase in tiredness and anxiety? Is this normal for any dosage change? Dang, I had a pretty good weekend.
Avatar m tn ive stopped from 5mg of lexapro to 5 mg of paxil , and will up my dose in a week. anyone done the same thing? what sideeffects did u have?
Avatar m tn Im confused. I have been on SSRI's (Paxil & Paxil CR) in the past and they worked and I have come off on several occations, but currently I tried to swith to another SSRI which didn't work. Now I have been switched back to Paxil CR and I am currently on a new high of 37.5 milligrams for a week and a half and still don't feel that great. Is it usual to have a set back at every dose increase before it gets better?
