Paxil and heart defects

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and heart defects

paxil

Avatar n tn Some studies have reported a doubling of the risk of heart birth defects in babies when mothers take paxil in the first trimester, but even if these studies are true it must be born in mind that heart defects are uncommon in the first place, so that even if the risk really is doubled, they are still pretty uncommon.
Avatar n tn said prozac would probably not be helpful. Either paxil or Effexor...I know past studies had shown for Paxil to be linked to heart defects but now they are saying no (Motherisk Hospital for Sick Chrildren). Can someone else give some insight on the absoluate safety of this drug. Mr. Dr. said if Motherisk says its safe then I should not worry however I want to know for certain before TTC while on it. Please help. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Yea def don't take paxil or any psych meds. They give birth defects. Google how to calm anxiety and ask docs at your next appt.
Avatar f tn Paxil used to be category C until they started seeing babies with birth defects due to moms being on Paxil during pregnancy...hence all the lawsuits and now paxil is class D. I guess I'd feel better taking it if I had more symptoms but for right now I think I can deal with it? Idk...maybe I'm over thinking it...I've also heard babies born to moms on metaprolol tend to be low birth weight...or can have lower heartbeats...
Avatar f tn My husband and I are trying to have kids. We have been trying for only a few month, however, we are not young anymore (35) and I don't want to wait a year before consulting with a doctor (as it usually recommended). So here is my question: My husband has been taking paxil for the past 13 years (10mg). From the research online I found out that paxil changes sperm DNA that reduces permeability and as a result reduces the chance for pregnancy.
944223 tn?1245869858 Nope, stopped cold turkey because of a commercial that said Paxil was causing birth defects and heart palpitations. Also, i'm not fond of pills..There are other things that naturally do the same thing with no side effects. I probably shouldn't have, but Im not depressed, and it wasnt helping with anxiety. My "anxiety" though, is just natural loads of energy and a heightened sense of urgency..
Avatar n tn Don't I seen on tv adds lately of u took paxiL or zoloft wile pregnet u might be able to sue because it causes birth defects if I c the add for it again later I'll put u the numbed u can ask them what they think I wooldent cuz u r right it can do harm cause birth defects.
Avatar f tn I have really bad anxiety and anger issues. Been on paxil for over a year. Ive been trying to get off of them but cant stand the way my body feels without them. Been trying to substitute with xanax. I am now 7 weeks and i feel great when i take a xanax... ive heard paxil can cause birth defects... but how safe is my baby while on xanax? I dont take more than 1mg a day...?? Havent been able to get on medicaid yet and contact a dr about my situation. I feel i need the xanax to feel motivated.
Avatar f tn I do not know if michael has taken Paxil, but i did take it for over 8 years and let me tell you paxil put me through hell and one of the side effects was heart palpittions. There are many side effects from paxil that many people are not aware of. SO do your research. There are so many great web sites out there, one is paxilprogress.
Avatar n tn is there anyone on her that has a baby or is gonna have a baby that has tetralogy of Falot? We recently found out our little boy has this heart defect and his chances are very high I just wondered if there were any other moms on here that have experienced this? If so how are they or what was your experience. We are very positive he will be just fine! Just looking for a little insight!
Avatar f tn Why I am trying to do this again you may ask, is that I would like to get pregnant once i am a bit less of a mental reck and paxil has a increased risk of Congenital Heart Defects, as well as god knows what else and also it makes me gain weight and gives me acid reflux and gas problems; you say talk to your doctor well unfortunately were i live there is a shortage of doctors that are accepting patients and the ones that are well lets just say less than desirable soo I go to a walk in clinic and
Avatar m tn He went to doctor, but he said the only thing he can do is to take the entire tube off, but takes time to heal and it might not change any... This symptom is reported as mouse experience of paxil, I read, so both of the side effect of paxil and this causes infertility, I guess. Could anyone give me advice?
Avatar f tn She is getting married this Nov and wants to have children. Paxil will cause birth defects, so she really needs to find something else. Funny how are Doctors can never find a drug to swith us to. How we have asked jover the years!!!!
Avatar f tn I'm on thyroid med (levothyroxine) and it does not cause birth defects. I also have heart problems but nothing that could be changed with medicine so my doctor and I agreed not to try any more medicine now that I'm pregnant. I've tried several before becoming pregnant and nothing helped. My heart problem has gotten worse since being pregnant though. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Hi, My husband and I want to try to have a baby soon and I am concerned about being on an antidepressant. I have been on Paxil for about 2-3 months and am trying to get off of it because my doctor said I cannot be on it when I decide to get pregnant. I researched Amoryn and Seredyn at Amoryn.com and it says they're all natural and there's rarely side effects. I would just like to know if it is safe to take during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn I have a wicked anxiety disorder, for which I take 40 mg of paxil daily. I know paxil can cause heart and lung problems for the baby. I obviously want no harm to come to our baby but I am TERRIFIED of stopping the Paxil. The last time i tried I got the withdraw symptoms of derealization and depersonalization. it was the most horrifying experience of my life. I do not ever want to feel that again. So, any advice on this would really help.
Avatar n tn I was on Paxil for a few months and came off and experienced massive withdrawal, worse then my previous Loratab addiction. I came off cold turkey but immediately switched to Zoloft. I was on a high dose of Paxil. The only ache I had was a massive headache 24/7. Massive!! I went back on Paxil for two weeks and I'm off again but it's odd that I have no headache but I have the most horrible back pain. I never had this before starting Paxil.
Avatar f tn t have him so incredibly addicted. I also have heard that paxil is bad on your liver and possible birth defects! The trouble with even thinking of doing this is... he is a sales manager in an already stressful environment. He does not want to try to do this when it would negatively impact his work. Is there a way to take something to supplement the paxil, while at the same time weaning off the dosage of the paxil?
Avatar f tn sorry for your loss and thanks for giving info on this issue ,in my pregnancy there was a risk of heart problems with the baby because of sua (single umbilical artery issue) so baby's heart was checked and rechecked ,all 4 chambers and blood flow was seen and thankgod everything was fine with her. good luck for your anantomy scan.
Avatar m tn When this pressure is relieved by opening up the pulmonary outflow tract, it can cause decreased blood flow to the coronary arteries and, subsequently, to the heart. This can be life-threatening, and can make the heart not amenable to any kind of reasonable repair. Thus, these patients may need a cardiac transplant to survive. Without seeing your baby’s heart, it is difficult for me to tell what will need to be done specifically.
9685498 tn?1405283462 Paxil needs to be tapered off of very slowly, the time period depending on the individual. If you're feeling exactly what you were feeling before going on the Paxil, then it's probably just that you never resolved the problem and were just covering up the symptoms with the drug. But if you're suffering new problems then it's likely Paxil withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I was feeling fine on the Paxil mentally. I was just have the rapid heart beat and some anxiety but not nearly at all the amount of anxiety that I'm experiencing now. I think it could be Paxil withdrawel? I was on 10 mg Paxil doing well mentally and was switched to 15 mg Lexapro. I feel really panicky and depressed now on the Lexapro. Please let me know if you have had a similar experience or if you have had Paxil withdrawel. I think it's best for me to go back on the Paxil.
Avatar f tn Thank goodness I found this site. It has been so frustrating thinking I was the only one out there with this problem. 20 years ago I was diagnosed with mild mitral and tricuspid valve prolapses and i've had PVCs for 20 years. Mostly stayed off caffeine and everything was fine enough. They didn't bother me and when I did feel one or two of them, I just said to myself, oops, must have been that cup of coffee.
Avatar f tn I would definately get a second opinion! However, 'chest pains' usually stem from panic attacks. I was on Paxil for 5 years...it worked wonders for my panic attacks...I actually just went off it Feb 10th-ish, tried other meds, but they didn't work, so I started up Paxil again. All I can say is positive stuff about it. It doesn't make my heart pound, and I don't have attacks anymore. Good luck to you hun.
Avatar n tn I was currently on Leaxpro and just got changed to Paxil and Klonopin. I also take propranolol for my heart twice a day. Is it safe for these medications to be taken together?
Avatar n tn ve been dealing with anxiety since I was 22 (am now 34). Been in therapy almost the entire time and on meds as well. Took Paxil and Klonopin until a few months ago. My therapist and ob/gyn switched me to Zoloft because my husband and I want to start a family. I LOVE the Zoloft, feel much better than I did when taking Paxil. Clearer, more energy, just more awake to the world in general. So...my problem is the Klonopin.
Avatar f tn In my ultrasound level 2, my baby is having bilateral choroid cysts and echogenic focus on left ventricle. The rest of the body parts are fine and show no defects. My triple test was negative.I have done foetal ECG and its normal. Doctors are telling me that most probably the cyst will disappear by 24 weeks.Though the foetal heart is perfectly normal, is still there is any chance of heart defects due to the echogenic focus. Doctor thinks that aminocentesis is bit risky.
Avatar n tn The electrical problem is due to defects in heart muscle cell structures called ion channels. These electrical defects predispose affected persons to a very fast heart rhythm (arrhythmia). Other causes could be drugs, medication, electrolyte disturbance, or other conditions that might independently lengthen the QT-interval. Right bundle branch block (RBBB) could indicate some heart impulse blockages that could effect heart rhythm. Worst case scenarios.
