I bought a bottle of Patanol eye drops about a month and three weeks ago, I found the box a couple days ago and noticed on the box that it says discard thirty days after opening... The expiry date on the bottle says 01-2011.. Is this bad that I used the eye drops three weeks after it was suppose to be discarded? I only used three quaters of the bottle. I paid a little over fifty dollars for this little 5 mL bottle.... But what can you do....
A few months ago I was walking to my friends house and had something fly into my eye. As soon as I went to his place I took my contact lenses off and tried rubbing the foreign body out with water, but only managed to scratch my cornea in the process. Then I put my contact lenses back on not knowing what I had just done and my left eye had an infection, my eye was sensitive to light, it felt itchy, every time i blinked it hurt VERY bad.
The only change I have made in my life style is to take Patanol eye drops for allergy eyes. I have been using them once daily for 4 months. Could it be that this antihistamine can be causing this increase in my blood pressure? I am allergic to the drugs used for controling blood pressure and prior to this successfully lowered my pressure by exercise and diet.It is normal for me to have a reading of 130 over 80. I am 59 years old. I weigh 110 pounds. I am 5 foot 6 inches tall.
Are steroids such as Maxitrol or Tobradex *supposed* to help with eye burning caused by dry eye or can it make your symptoms worse? I'm dealing with allergic conjunctivitis (again!) and dealing with burning eyes. thanks!
have an eye allergy and sometimes (once a week) I have to take steriod drops because my eye becomes red and swollen and itchy. Otherwise I use patanol.
My doc prescribed me Vitreolent for the cataracts but I already use too many drops that irritate and dry my eyes, I don't know what to do so I also have to use artifical tears.
My question is:
1. Can my cataracts be caused by the steroids or the other drops I use?
2. I have 20/20 so how can I still see and have cataracts?

i went to the doctors yesterday and after i did some research on the two drops you mentioned and i found patanol eye drops here on prescription in australia, which contains the same active ingredient as pataday drops just in a two drops twice a day method because its only 1mg not 2.22mg like pataday, i have done 2 doses of the drops and on my lord they are awesome! the redness has settled right down much quicker than in the past!
Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms.Also put topical antihistaminic or steroid eye drops after consulting an ophthalmologist as his prescription is required for these.
In future, to reduce dust in your home, remove drapes, feather pillows, upholstered furniture, non-washable comforters and soft toys. Replace carpets with linoleum or wood. Vacuum soft furniture and curtains as well as floor.
that triggers it for some reason but i also noticce tha one eye is a little irritated with red right on the corner of the eye.. i took him to out family dr and was given patanol eye drops.. he only has a day taking them but the doctor really didnt gi ve me a clear anwer on weather what the problem really was... well mainly im trying to look for a second opinion.. also the doctor did metion that my son when the second child that when in that day with the blinking problem..
m a woman (mid-40s) in good health--no regular medications except for Patanol eye drops and Zyrtec for allergies. Prior to this incident, I was told I have some mild scarring (or an "opacity") at the top of my corneas, possibly from years of wearing contact lenses. I did not not have contacts in at the time of this mishap.
I saw a physician today who did an EKG and it was normal, but my pulse was between 100 - 120 (normal for me is 60) and my blood pressure was 154/84 (normal for me is 120/80. He looked up the side effects from the Durezol and Ilevro eye drops I'm using and found they can cause increased heart rate and high blood pressure. I have no history of heart problems. In fact, I'm a runner.
My GP then prescribed Predsol (Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate) drops - one drop three times daily for five days. The list of side effects looks quite scary and so far I havn't used them.
The side effects include:
"Glaucoma, blurred vision or problems with sight, enlarged pupils, drooping of the upper eyelid, thinning of the cornea or sclera which can lead to perforation.
I am using patanol and vigamox. Problem is i have like a white discharge on my eye and it does not like to come out. I use a hot compress twice a day then i try to rinse my eye and flush my eye as well. Nothing it just remains in my eye.Most of the time i go to bed and it still there. When the white discharge remains in my eye for too long it gets hard and crust and sticks to my skin this hearts really bad.
So I kept having the same problems and went back to him multiple times, he gave me drops, the eye problems came back, then I repeated the process.
Then finally around that following January, I went to the ophthalmologist. He gave me more drops, and said it might be the dorm I was staying in since it was an old dorm. I did the drops and like usual the problems persisted. So after I got out of that dorm at the end of the year I hoped that the eye problems would stop; well they didn't.
I had the same surgery 8 weeks ago and found I was allergic to the preservitives in the eye drops which has left me with a chronic dry sore eye. I can't sleep at night because of the scratching and burning sensation. I don't think it will ever get better as every day is the same. I have been told to scrub the eyelids twice a day with diluted baby shampoo but this has added to my pain as my eyelids are raw with that.
